Giz Wiz #1543 November 1st, 2015, our 27th Independently Produced Giz Wiz Show

If you'd like to support OMGChad & DickDe in our independent venture, (we pay for everything ourselves) just click the Patreon link at the top of this link: http://www.gizwiz.tv/.  You can also contribute just once via PayPal there too. And thank you! The show wouldn't exist with our viewer's support.

On this week's show three new gadgets from the PhotoPlus Expo at the Javits Center in NYC.

Selfie sticks.....Wow, we've talked about a lot of different kind of selfie sticks on The Giz Wiz. Well, we're going to talk about another one this week. But this one is quite different. If you own a GoPro, or actually any sort of digital camera you want to use it for hours and hours at a time and not worry about battery power, you'll be interested in this. It's called the PowerGrip H20 and it was designed to be used any where, from scuba diving to snowboarding and just about anywhere. What makes this selfie stick truly different is that it's waterproof. And with the included waterproof door in place, it keeps the PowerGrip H20 sealed and dry down to 99 feet. You can even live charge underwater but then the optional Live Charge Doors are reqiured. Built into the handle is a rechargeable 6700 mAh battery which is enough to film with your GoPro for 12 hours straight. This battery is big enough to charge your GoPro 6 times, or your iPhone6 3 times. But wait, there's more! The PowerGrip H20 can be configured as a: 9.5 in grip, a 22 inch pole, a 33 inch pole or a follow-cam setup. The two full size USB ports provide enough power to simultaneously charge cameras, phones, speakers, headphones, and even lights. (There's also an optional LED light bank that can be attached to the PowerGrip H20. It will be available on the company website about mid-November, 2015 for $99.99.

The Pixel Stick...It uses 200 LED's, so it's got to be good!

So what is Pixelstick? I asked that question at the PhotoPlus Expo and learned a lot about lighting 'painting' on photos. One way to do that is via a Pixelstick. A Pixelstick consists of 200 full color RGB LEDs inside a long and narrow lightweight aluminum housing. There's a controller mounted on the PixelStick that reads images from an SD card and displays them, one vertical line at a time, on the LEDs. The imagines on the SD card can be ones you created or downloaded. Each LED corresponds to a pixel in the image. Load your SD card up with full color, high fidelity images and watch pixelstick transform your long exposures into an entirely different photo. All you need for lightpainting is Pixelstick and a camera with a long exposure mode! The folks at PixelStick say that the beauty of lightpainting is that there's no wrong way to do it. They certainly had a lot of folks interested in this creature technique. They were looking for $110,000 on Kickstarter. They ended their project with 2,105 backers and a total of $608,726. On their website are three short videos which will help you understand the whole lightpainting process. If you just want to watch one quick video, here are some lightpainting results, obviously from people who really know what they're doing!

2015 and Lomography is introducing a brand new instant-film camera.

An New Instant Film Camera, in 2015? When I saw an instant film camera at the PhotoPlus Expo I thought who, in this digital age, would want to buy such old technology. Then I learned about their Lomo'Instant Camera Kickstarter project. They had 8,448 backers who pledged $1,118,333 to help bring that project to life. So evidently A LOT of people are interested in instant photography. The Lomo'Instant can do more than the old Polaroid cameras could. They have auto and manual flash modes so you can experiment with all kinds of experimental shooting possibilities. In addition to the camera, there's the Lomo'Instant Lens System! The camera has a built-in Wide Angle lens, but the kit includes a Fisheye, Portrait, and a close-up Lens! The camera works with the widely available Fujifilm Instax Mini film, which offers credit card sized snapshots which can fit in any wallet. Coming soon (by holidays 2015) is Lomo'Instant Wide. It has a lot of features includes one really clever one, the Remote Control Lens Cap. That's right, the lens cap is a remote shutter release. Check their website for all the things you never knew an instant film camera could do, like control an external flash. The spokesperson at the show said if you pre-order now you'll get great bonuses and secure your place in line to receive yours before the holidays! Delivery for the first batch is estimated to begin December 2015.

Chad's Crappy Corner and a brand new theme for November.

Chad polled our loyal (and much appreciated) Patreons and asked what theme they would like to see for November. They picked: “Chad's Gadget Warehouse”. Old stuff Chad still has! And for his first Chad's Crappy Corner Chad picked the Olympus W-10!

Chad said he got his Olympus W-10 when he went to middle school. He was about 13 years old at the time. This Olympus W-10 had a feature I never heard of before in a pocket recorder. It had a built-in camera! Chad said the pictures were pretty grainy and during the show  he looked up the specs. Wow, it had an amazing .03 pixel camera! Lucky it took pictures at all with resolution that low. It was about $60 way back then, but can still be found on Ebay. Chad posted a link below with more about the Olympus and this some of what the amazing W-10 could do.

The W-10 is a digital voice recorder with a built-in digital camera. The camera has a four-element, 6.5 mm f2.8 glass lens and shoots in VGA (640 x 480) resolution. The support software for the W-10 is Olympus Voice Album. Using this software, the W-10 can also be used as a PC camera with a one-second refresh rate. Clicking on a frame saves it in the software. Olympus Voice Album can also be used to associate image and audio files with one another. This makes it possible to create Visual Index points in audio files, attach audio notes to image files, and narrate slideshows of captured images. The W-10 is supported by Windows® 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, and Windows XP Home Edition. The W-10 is not compatible with Windows XP Professional x64 or Windows Vista™. The W-10 is not compatible with Macintosh™ operating systems because the WAVE audio format is not supported by Macintosh platforms.

You can still find the Olympus W-10 on ebay here for under $28 (as of 11/5/2015): http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261806485306?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82

We're looking for more viewer videos and we'd love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show. Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
