Giz Wiz Show 1715 February 21, 2019 Independent Show #197

Happy Anniversary To Us!!! With this show Giz Wiz starts year 13 & 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page http://www.gizwiz.tv. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

This week we cover to one of our favorite shows of the year --- Toy Fair 2019! (Javits Center, NYC.)

The very first thing we saw at Toy Fair was Oobleck! What The Heck Is It? Is it a liquid? Is it a solid? Yes, it is. It's both. What I learned at Toy Fair 2019 is that Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid, meaning it acts as both a liquid and a solid. You can pound your hand on it (as you'll see on this week's show) and your fist will just bounce off it. And after you do that you can scoop it and roll it into a ball (as a solid), and then it can even ooze out of your hand (like a liquid)! Comes in a variety of colors. I jokingly asked if it could be eaten and the answer is, you probably don't want to, but you could because it's said to contains only non-toxic and washable materials. The kits will be under $10 and available in colors. But the kit was not on the company website as of 2/19/19, it's not going to be available till Summer 2019.

Now it turns out the recipe to make Oobleck is not a secret and there are lots of recipes online. I list one below. Here's a video I found where folks walk on, or sink into Oobleck.

Lots of recipes for Oobleck online - it's really simple to make it seems. Here's just one:

These Dolls Come With Their Own Green Screen & Media Connections!

From Yulu Toys, makers of Watermelon Smash & Tic Tac Tongue comes The #SNAPSTAR squad. As Yulu puts it, Lola, Aspen, Izzy, Echo, Dawn and Yuki are united by their love of fashion, style, food, music and traveling! In todays’ ‘tween world of YouTube and social engagement, this fresh new “social influencer” fashion doll brand is ready to connect with today’s kids in a way they can relate. What makes this squad unique: #SNAPSTAR dolls are fully articulated and poseable beyond any other fashion doll on the market. Customize the dolls with dozens of customizable styling options for hair, makeup, accessories and more with the free #SNAPSTAR Studio app for iOS or Android. Then use the unique #SNAPSTAR stand and green screen for literally countless poses and pics, without seeing the stand! ‘Tweens can turn their doll into a social media star as they pose, snap and share photos using #SNAPSTAR. The Giz Wiz adds: I think these will be big hit with the fashion dolls having their own YouTube Channel and Instagram pages. And they're under $15.00. Available only at Walmart.

Here's a toy you can ride off into the sunset on -PonyCycle

These ponies are great. Here's how PonyCycle describes them: Non-power walking! (Well actually it's kid powered as you see in this week's show.) "Simulation appearance, real horse riding feel. Good for kids balance, coordination and active play. Ride happily indoor and outdoor on flat ground. Safety product with EN-71 and ASTM-F963. Weight capacity = 88 lbs." Two sizes: small ages 2-5 years old: $219. Medium: 3-8 years old $259. A more deluxe model with better features including light-up wheels (light-up wheels on a pony??) is $399.00. I personality like non-battery, non-lighted version. And there's Unicorn available too!

Chad's Crappy Corner & Another Gadget For His February Theme!

Our loyal Patreons voted and they picked “Cheap Garage Gadgets” as Chad's Theme for February. Chad's third cheap garage gadget two Coleman AC remote control cables.

On this week's show Chad shows us the two Coleman Remote Control AC Power Cables he has set up in his garage. Here's a mini description of one that is listed as Coleman on Amazon. It looks identical, but is described as: Woods, Outdoor, Weatherproof Outlet Wireless Remote Control Converter Kit, 6" 16/3 Grounded Cord, Control Your Outdoor Security Lights and Holiday Decorations From Inside Your Home Or Car, Key Chain Remote Includes Battery and Has 60' Frequency Range, Weatherproof Base, Just Plug It In, 125V,13A, 1625W Resistive/8, 1000W Tungsten.

And Chad's take: Chad likes these because as he puts it “they just work”. No need to get out your phone, download anything, worry about WiFi, etc., he just uses the mini-remote to turn his shop lights on and off. The only downside Chad mentioned was the battery which seems not to be standard. But he aslo said he's been using these devices for more than two years and they just keep on working! He adds the remote is easy to hang on a nail right by the door, so as he enters or leaves, it's easy to control the garage lights. They're on Amazon.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video On Any Kind Of Gadget!

Our email this week comes from Jeff Sewell and his son Hugo. It's about Jeff's Palm Pilot III which is probably a dozen-plus years older than Hugo. Here's their email:

Dick and Chad,

Our submission for the Dick's Gadget Warehouse segment. It's my Palm Pilot. I've been meaning to make this video for a few years now. I'm happy I finally got around to it!

********************************

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Subject: Holes in your cable manager

I do a lot of 3D printing, so when you asked why there were holes in the cable manager Chad showed off, I instantly knew why. Often, especially with thicker plastics, round holes can actually increase structural integrity over a solid piece.
