Giz Wiz Show 1728 May 22, 2019 Independent Show #210

Wow! The Giz Wiz Show is in year 13 including our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/.  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

On this week's show, three gadgets the Giz Wiz found at Well Now! A Spring Pepcom Health Event.

Meet Lumen: Track & monitor your metabolism in a single breath. That's what the company says it can do. And this too: Hack your metabolism & lose weight. In a single breath, take the guesswork out of your nutrition. Well it seems people are very interested. On Indiegogo it raised $2,266,078 USD by 9,529 backers. Here's how it works according to the company: Your metabolism is different than your friends, your colleagues, your favorite actor. So why shouldn’t your nutrition be? By making a small change to the way you eat, you will see a big difference. Lumen is a device and app that measures your metabolism through the breath. With the app, you will receive daily personalized meal plans to help you lose weight and optimize your workouts. You may think you have a fast or slow metabolism, but in fact it changes every day based on the food you eat, the amount you sleep and if you workout. It's claimed to let you sustainably lose weight and optimize your workouts. The app is iOS & Android compatable. The Giz Wiz adds the company says it's “Backed by science.” MSRP is $299.00, but was available on their Indiegogo page for $249.00 as of 5/22/19

Company website: https://lumen.me/

If you click 'preorder' on the link above it will take you to their Indiegogo page with discounted prices. (Worked that way when tried on 5/25/19)

Bigger, better & more buttons!

It's the Lectrofan Micro2. It was just two years ago when I reviewed the original Lectrofan Micro Sound Machine. At this Pepcom event they showed me version 2.0 and explained the changes they made. You get to select your choice of 11 unique digital, non-looping sounds --- five fan sounds, four white/pink/brown noise variations, and two ocean surf sounds. (This is only one additional sound compared to the original device, but this larger model has better sound.) It's still Bluetooth of course and pairs with smartphones for audio streaming. A built-in microphone lets you use the Lectrofan Micro2 as a speakerphone. The rechargeable battery is much bigger than in the earlier model and lasts up to 40 hours in sleep sound mode, or 20 hours in Bluetooth mode. Both models have a twist-up speaker so you can aim the sound where you want. And because of owner comments the company added something else new. Independent volume controls so you don't need buttons that do double duty depending on how long you press them. I'm in favor of that big time! On trips I use my original device when I watch a movie on my super thin laptop which has awful sound due to its tiny speaker. MSRP is $34.95, the same as the earlier model. But now the price of the original unit is down to about $22.  With almost 2600 reviews on Amazon the new 2.0 model got 4.5 out of 5 stars. That's really good.

A connected health device some seniors might find very helpful, Dfree

Dfree was a very unique device on display at the "Well NOW!" event, which I thought people would like to know about. The reaction from the chatroom and even Chad was positive about letting people know this device exists. Here's how it works according to the company: Data collected by the sensor will be analyzed to predict when you need to go to the bathroom. The non-invasive sensor attached to your body uses ultrasound technology to monitor your bladder around the clock. DFree uses ultrasound to monitor how much urine is in your bladder in real time.  You will receive notification on your phone or tablet letting you know that you need to go to the bathroom. Dfree uses safe and non-invasive ultrasound technology. Ultrasound technology is also used for prenatal checkups as well as other non-medical devices such as toothbrushes so rest assured that it's safe to use. DFree sends alerts to your phone or tablet when it is time to go to the bathroom. Set notification threshold to determine when you want to receive notification.  Set notification so you have ample time to go. MSRP: $499.99. (There is a rent to own option on their website.)

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Final Gadget For His May Theme!

Chad's May theme is “Cheap Entertainment Gadgets”. And Chad's final gadget for May is the Ontel Magic Pad. Turns out this is a pretty neat gadget. Actually someone in the chatroom complained that Chad's Crappy Corner is getting 'too uncrappy'! Here's what Amazon says about it: The New Way To Draw, Sketch, & Create. Bring your art to life with Magic Pad! Magic Pad is the fun light-up drawing pad that illuminates your art! The exciting new way to draw, sketch and create! Magic Pad’s unique screen is crystal clear! Simply press the button to see your art glow super bright like magic! Choose from 8 different & colorful light effects! Watch your art flash, scramble colors & more! When you’re done simply wipe the screen clean to create all over again! Take Magic Pad with you anywhere! The portable design is hours of fun on long car rides! Magic Pad, 30 Insert Cards, 3 Dual Sided Neon Pens. Instructions & Fun Guide. $14.29

And Chad's Take? Chad like this a lot too. It's fun to draw on the pad, but lighting your drawing adds a lot more excitement. And as you'll see in the video, you can see your creation in all different colors. A tip from Chad is to wet the rag to clean the screen quicker when you want to redraw on it. And Chad also found a source for more markers that can 'light up'. The refills are from Crayola and I seem to recall Crayola itself had a device similar to this a few years ago. But was way more than the under $15.00 price online. These are the extra markers Chad said should work with the device:

https://youtu.be/xsi7IMrxA1w

Hope you like it.    Mo.

********************************

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
