The Giz Wiz, Week of September 25th 2014, Show # 1487

BLACK+DECKER says their new 20V MAX Lithium Cordless Drill with AutoSense is the first drill designed to understand when to stop screws flush with the work surface. It has two modes, drill and drive. In drive mode, a microprocessor continuously measures the tool’s performance. As the screw enters the material there is a rapid change in its torque profile. The microprocessor analyzes the rate of change and stops most screws flush with the material within three milliseconds. To countersink screws, the tool provides depth control for micro adjustments. A battery status indicator lets you know when the battery needs to be recharged and an LED work light on the foot of the drill illuminates large work surface areas and reduces shadows. The 20V MAX AutoSense comes with a charger and a 20V MAX lithium ion battery, which holds a charge for up to 18 months. The 20V MAX lithium ion battery is part of an interchangeable system that powers more than 30 BLACK+DECKER Power Tools, Outdoor Products, and Home Products combined. Two of us used the AutoSense Drill/Driver as you’ll see in the video. The only thing to be aware of is that we found the ‘forward/reverse’ lever is easy to move. So when you start driving or drilling you may accidentally put the drill in reverse. It doesn’t damage anything, but you’ll wonder why it’s not drilling until you push the lever to forward. Price: $79.99. Model #: BDCDE120C. Available at Amazon & many big box stores.

Recoil, a way to untangle your life, or at least your cables.

Recoil Winders are designed to end the problem of tangled, lost and unidentifiable cords and cables. The company says Recoil Winders make it easy to find, store and organize all of your cords. They help eliminate tangled headphones & earbuds, phone chargers, USB cords or camera chargers. No more searching for the right charging cord or forgetting which cord belongs to which device. How do Recoil Winders do that? Easy. Their cord management tool make earbuds or any other cord, retractable. Do they work? That’s what you’ll see in the Giz Wiz Video below. One thing to be aware of is that there is no middle stop with Recoil Winders. The cable (up to a max of 60” with the largest one) has to be unwound completely when you’re removing it from the Recoil Winder. They come in 3 sizes and different colors and cost about $10 each. Or you can buy a 3 pack, 1 of each size for about $25-$27 on Amazon and get a free stand. They’ll available at the company website too.

Chad's Crappy Corner! The 5th (and last) gadget in Chad’s theme for September - Kitchen Gadgets.

For this week’s show Chad picks the Cuisipro Mini Ice Cream Sandwich Maker. Here’s what Amazon says about it: Making delicious ice cream sandwiches has never been easier with the Cuisipro Mini Ice Cream Sandwich Maker. It's easy to use; just cut, scoop, cut and press. Make endless combinations of cookies and ice cream flavors to create that perfect treat. Enjoy making delectable frozen desserts that are fun to eat and even more fun to make. Unique - brand new way to create ice cream sandwiches at home, using regular store bought items, nothing fancy required to create endless combinations. Fun included - comes as a set of three fun shapes; Heart, Star and Circle, including instructions and recipe book. Easy to use - effortlessly cut, scoop and create mini ice cream sandwiches using one tool, even kids can use it!  Price $12.41 and on Amazon Prime as of 9/25/14.

And Chad’s take: Chad liked this device a LOT! He had fun making the mini-ice-cream sandwiches and even more fun eating them. He made them with both hard and soft cookies as you'll see in the video. When I asked Chad for a rating for the Cuisipro Mini Ice Cream Sandwich Maker he said: "A+!". But we both agree the name of the product is awful.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse. And how to submit your video to the show.

Our video of the week arrived with this email:

Hey Dick/Chad/Jeff/Jason/Alex/Josh/any one else who is now involved in production of the best show on the network... Greetings from London.

There are many things in my gadget warehouse, actually I'm moving this weekend so everything is going in my gadget warehouse (a shipping container near a farm outside of the city) but this is quite possibly my favourite. It was a gift given to me by my sister a number of Christmases ago, or was it birthdays ago? I don't remember.

I don't want to spoil it in this email, but suffice to say it plays music and it comes from a place called Cyberdog which is a shop lit by coloured LEDs and ultraviolet tubes so I figure it's right up your alley. It also has a sound system to rival many a nightclub through which a DJ plays music at a low enough level so you can still hear yourself think. I recently discovered you can even tour the place on Google maps (here and here).

So here it is, my gadget warehouse! https://vimeo.com/106950776

                                    +++++++++++

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so let’s go going!

Here’s what we’re looking for: Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send our producer, Jeff Needles, the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you will now be awarded with some sort of prize. Like an autographed MAD magazine and some piece of crap. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

All show submissions go to gizwiz@twit.tv

LETTER OF THE WEEK:

Hey Dick and Chad,

I found this on kickstarter and immediately thought you would love it as much as I do! It’s a cooler for camping/sporting events that will just flat amaze you! Check it out!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ryangrepper/coolest-cooler-21st-century-cooler-thats-actually

I hope you love it and will feature it on The GizWiz! Love the show and thanks for all you do!

Yoshi Harada

Giz Wiz Note: We don’t have almost $200 to buy one of these guys, but the fact that the cooler has $13,285,226 pledged for a $50,000 goal, means a LOT of people want one of these. If you buy one, why not make a little video of how well it works for our show.
