The Giz Wiz Show 1663, February 23rd 2017 Independent Show #146

The Giz Wiz Show celebrated it's 12th anniversary and started it's13th year this week! The first show was February 20th, 2006. And soon we'll be entering our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv . You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make more money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

This week and next, we visit one of the most fun events of the year, Toy Fair! Let's check out the first four fun games, gadgets and gizmos we saw for 2018 at the Javits Center in NYC.

You've Heard of Frying Donuts, But How About Flying Frying Donuts?

This will be a fun game for kids, parties and yes, even adults. I only played it for a few minutes at Toy Fair, but it was fun. I don't know if there's a way for more than two to play, but basically here's how it works. Each player gets four light-weight mesh donuts. They are three donuts each in two different colors so it's easy to keep track of the score. A fan under the 'cooking pot' make the donuts take flight. The winner is the one who gets their three donuts to catch on the baker's hook over the cooking pot first. The spokesperson at the Maya Toys booth said the game will be out in August and will retail for $19.99.

It's not on the company website yet and probably won't be until summer www.mayatoys.net

Discover With Dr. Cool.

Here are two fun chemistry kits that will let you amuse and amaze and maybe even learn something new! My favorite here is the Chemistry Magic Invisible Test Tube Kit. (All the components are in the kit, in a smaller size than the video demo.) You take a test tube filled with liquid, and a measuring cup of water. Lower the test tube into the water and every part of the test tube below the water line instantly disappears! (You'll see it in this week's show.) The second kit is the Chemistry Magic Waterproof Wonders. There are two fun projects in this kit. In one of them you put dry sand on the little plastic spoon and lower it into water, make sure it goes under the water. Then take the sand out, and it's bone dry! In the second project, dip a finger tip into the special powder, then stick your finger into water. Remove your finger from the water and it too is bone dry. Each kit will be $11.99 and should be available starting July, 2018.

Company website - but neither of these kits will be there till much closer to the summer release date: http://www.discoverwithdrcool.com/

Toy Fair Is Never Complete Until We Stop At Folkmanis Puppets!

Every year Folkmanis introduces a few more of their lovable new puppets. This year there's a new Purring Cat, some Flying Pigs and an Opossum. Now, can you call this Opossum lovable? Here's how Folkmanis describes him: Creepy yet cute, the Folkmanis Opossum puppet is realistic enough to fool your friends. Play "possum" and be ready for squeals of delight and awe when you animate the mouth and display the rat-like printed tail. $53.99. Hmm, rat-like printed tail? Oh, well, judge his cuteness for yourself in the video from Toy Fair 2018. The Opossum is on the company website already, but not the Purring Cat (with purring is built-in) and not the Flying Pig. But they should show up on the company website soon.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Final Gadget For His February Theme!

For his final February theme “Gadgets that work with apps” Chad picked the BLACK+DECKER WiFi Enabled 6-Quart Slow Cooker, Silver, SCW3000S. He got his at Walmart where it was about $10 cheaper than on Amazon. Here's what Walmart says about it. Cook delicious meals at home, from the office, or on the go with the BLACK+DECKER" WiFi-Enabled 6-Quart Slow Cooker! The slow cooker connects to your home WiFi network and you can control it from (almost) anywhere with a free downloadable app, available for both Apple and Android devices (need WiFi of course). Never worry about overcooking your dinner if you're stuck at the office, have a change in plans, or are simply running behind. Not only does the app let you program your desired timing and switch between three heat settings while at home or away, but it also has options to look up new recipes and even share your creations on social media. The slow cooker is also fully functional offline, without the app. Just use the intuitive controls to choose time and temperature settings, and it works like a traditional slow cooker.

And Chad's take? Well, it's good that the slow cooker is fully functional offline, because Chad said the app is totally “uncooked”. There are very few choices and little you can do to customize cooking. He said setting are limited to 30 minutes minimum, kind of stupid when you're using an app that should be able to let you do what you want to the minute! However, it did cook the food properly as you'll see in the video. So a “yes” on the actual cooker, and a “dumb” on the app!

Chad bought his at Walmart for $49.99.It's here on their website:

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
