This week we finish up with unique gadgets we saw at CES 2018!!!

Okay, vinyl records are making a comeback, but what do you think about Kodak introducing an 8mm film camera?

At CES 2018, I walked by the Kodak booth and thought I saw an old Kodak Super8 camera on display. I was wrong. Yes, it was a Kodak Super8 camera, and it looked like a retro model, but it was a brand new camera that will go on sale soon. And yes, it uses Super 8mm film! Film that you shoot and mail off to Kodak just the way you did 40 or 50 years ago! Unlike the old super 8 camera, this one has a large flip-out 4-inch LCD screen. It shows what the camera is recording on the 8MM cartridge film and it flickers the way old 8MM film did when it ran through a projector. There are other modern features on this camera too, like a Micro HDMI out that will let you monitor the feed on an external monitor. There is a built-in light meter to aid with exposure setting. There's a camera settings wheel that is very reminiscent of the early iPods. The camera ships with Ricoh 6mm f1.2 lens, but it has a C-mount so professional photographers, which I think this camera is aimed at, can use others lenses they already own and love. There is no audio recorded onto the film, but the camera has a mic input and headphone monitor. Sound is recorded on an SD card using wav format. The camera makes markers on the film so can sound sync them later. The camera takes standard Super 8 50 FT cartridges, but you can shoot at 18, 24, 25 or 36 FPS. There will be an assortment of popular film types available from Kodak. Fully charged, the 7200 mAh internal battery should allow a user to shoot 10 to 12 cartridges of film depending on the film speeds you shoot at. There's a tripod mount on the bottom for the handgrip, or a tripod. Price is another thing that lets you know this is aimed at the professional market. The camera will be around $3000 (I was told $1500 to $2000 earlier in the day at CES, but later when I stopped back to ask a question, it was changed to $3000.) An 8MM cartridge of film, including processing, and a digital copy, and a copy online for you to use, will be about $100. It's expected to start shipping this spring.

A smart LED light and app that can be added to bike/motorcycle helmets.

Cosmo Connected, a French startup, unveiled its new Cosmo Bike module for enhanced rider safety. Fully equipped with a multi-function light and turn signals, this helmet add-on helps make bike journeys safer. In addition to LED's, it can detect falls and warn friends, family and emergency responders of an accident. The 8 LEDs (4 red and 4 yellow) use an internal light diffusion system to boosts light visibility. Mounted on the back of most any helmet, the light module offers several features. A deceleration light level shows the rider is slowing down and an always-on position light acts as a helmet rear light. All the Bike lighting modes are directly configurable from the app. If the rider is involved in an accident, Cosmo Bike incorporates a fall detector linked directly to the Cosmo app, which locates the rider precisely by GPS and notifies family members or friends that there has been an accident. This family and friends alert service is free and a standard basic function of the app. Riders can also sign up for an optional service that will notify emergency responders automatically to ensure a fast first-aid response regardless of circumstances. Fall 2018. The spokesperson in the video (link below) said the new model was going to be just $59.00, but since the current model without the turn signals is $119.00, I'm not sure he's totally correct, so check their website once the new device is up there.

Chad discovers Razor's brand new Rocket Turbo Jetts

The company says “Hit new heights of fun with the all-new Turbo Jetts electric motorized heel wheels!” (Or you may also hit the floor as we saw one reporter do a bunch of times trying out them out at CES.) You'll have to watch this week's show as Chad talks to the folks at Razor about these electric-powered heel wheels. (I guess they're really not skates because they just power your heel.) Yep, an 80-watt, geared-drive motor provides a one-of-a-kind boost to any pair of sneakers. There's no remote. The Turbo Jetts use an integrated, pressure-sensitive, power control system to help you ride comfortably at speeds up to 10 mph (16 km/h) for up to 30 minutes of continuous use. Simply step into the heavy-duty polymer quick click frame and tighten the hook-and-loop strap for a secure fit. They're designed for U.S. sneaker size “youth 12 to adult 12” (European youth 42 through adult 45). The battery is a 12V lithium-ion pack, with quick-change, I believe they said 30 minutes. And yes, battery charger is included. Age: 9+ Max Rider Weight: 176 lb (80 kg). U.S. MSRP: $129.99. They'll be available February/March 2018 at ToyRUs first, then in wider distribution.

Soon you'll be able to add a 'drone' to your 'phone'!

At Showstoppers at CES 2018, SELFLY Camera and AEE viation Technology announced the AEE SELFLY, a smartphone case with an embedded drone! Yep, this unique device lets smartphone users turn their phone case into a drone to capture 1080P selfie pictures and/or videos. The company says the AEE SELFLY snaps onto most all standard size 4-6-inch smartphones. It has a flight time of four minutes with an approximate recharge time of 30 minutes. The 13MP camera supports capturing wide panoramic photos. New creative control “Fly by picture” mode makes for easy flying via your smartphone. A visual and sonar positioning system, plus foldable wings enhance portability of the drone case. Their app is compatible with iOS and Android devices. It's expected to ship spring 2018. MSRP is $130.00 and will include the AEE SELFLY smartphone case and two batteries for eight minutes of total flight time. It will be available on Amazon and at the company website:
