The Giz Wiz Show 1672, April 27th 2018 Independent Show #155

The Giz Wiz Show recently started it's13th year! The first show was February 20th, 2006. And soon (May 2018) we'll be entering our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

There were two press events this past week. One from Anker who introduced several new speakers and gave a hands-on look on their new Eufy EverCam Security Camera. Read about it below. And then there was the The Time To Play Magazine Spring event. I'll have fun toys and games from that for the next couple of weeks.

The Eufy EverCam from Anker is wireless security cam has many outstanding features. The one that stands out most is “365-Day Battery Life”! I don't totally understand how they did that, but a company spokesman said that 70% of the time the EverCam switches to a sub-carrier to commute with the base unit and that connection takes far less power than WiFi. Other features include: Face-Recognizing Alerts | Motion Detection | 1080p Full HD | Free Local Storage (via the built in SD card slot) | Night Vision | Weatherproof (IP66). As far as motion detection goes, the EverCam reduces false alarms by up to 95%. There video will show you their 3-step scanning and filtering process. A 140° wide-angle lens provides a panoramic view, and the top-of-the-line Sony Exmor sensor combine with large f2.2 aperture to offer around-the-clock Full HD surveillance. The included 16GB micro SD card, which you can expand anytime you want, records approximately 1 year of video on one camera, with 10 videos per day, 30 seconds each. If you still prefer cloud storage, it's available for $2.99/month per camera. This Kickstarter project is very popular already. As of 4/26/18 they have $1,523,710 pledged of their $50,000 goal from 4,360 backers with 50 days to go! The video on this camera looked great. While the unit itself doesn't look too different from others, it's all the internal features that is making this a runaway hit on Kickstarter!

A very different kind of Selfie Stick from Mpow

This Mpow Selfie Stick provides a wide-angle LED light with low, medium and high brightness adjustment modes. In the back there's a convenient mirror so you can see how you look before the camera goes off. Built into the handle is a 1500mAh battery. It's charged via amicro USB charger cable which may people, including me, didn't get in the package. But any tech person has a lot of them laying around. The company says the battery provides about 72 hours of LED fill light time, 30 hours of Bluetooth connection time on a single charge. (They don't specify if that is using them at the time.) It fits smartphones with a width between 1.8 to 3.3 inch. I used it with a Galaxy Note 4 with no problem. It's 7.3" fully closed and can be extended to 33.9 inches. And finally, the mount at the top of the selfie stick can be positioned at any point through 270 degrees to allow a variety of shooting angles from traditional selfies to above-crowd shots. The package should include the Selfie Stick, USB Charging Cable & Carry Bag, plus instructions. As I read in the reviews it seems some people get instructions (a tiny sheet) and some get a charging cable, which I didn't.

Unavailable now.

A tiny LED light with a lot of uses in small spaces.

Here's a tiny LED Lamp that can light dozens of dark areas where a larger light won't fit. Stick them up on a shelf in kitchen cabinets, in a closet, tool box, etc. They're also perfect for power outages, camping trips, and even on on boats. And yes, they're waterproof and submersible. They comes in a handy 6-pack for under $10. I don't recommend the 3-pack for $7.99. The come with an adhesive disc for quick installation. Batteries included and not replaceable. My guess is you could replace they if you're handy, but the batteries would probably cost the same as the device. Each device contains one 13 Lumen LED. It powered by 2 Cr2032 batteries. The company says battery life is over 17 Hours. Made By Panther Vision.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Final Gadget For His April Theme.

As an Amazon Associate Giz Wiz Biz earns from qualifying Amazon purchases.

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his cheap theme for April. Their choice? Cheap Security Gadgets. This week Chad's pick is the Master Lock Select Access Wall-Mounted Key Storage Box with Set-Your-Own Combination Lock.

The 5401D Key Safe offers a convenient locking solution that holds up to five house or car keys. Great for people on the go, the 5401D means you'll always know exactly where your keys are. And for added peace of mind, this key safe will withstand the tools a thief might use to attempt entry. The 5401D can be mounted anywhere. The compartment door pivots smoothly and remains attached to the lock body. A shutter door protects the combination dials from weather, dirt, and grime. It's easy to set your own four-digit combination and it offers up to 10,000 combination possibilities. It was $28.87 on 4/27/18. Amazon prices can change at any time.

And Chad's take: Chad liked this a lot. In his video on this week's show you'll see that the mounting holes are inside the safe, making it really difficult to get to once you lock the device. Chad also liked a lever inside that lets you easily change the combination. You may do that often if you're having different people opening it at different times of the week. And Chad also liked the amount of room inside the safe that he thought would easily hold five keys, even a larger key like one for a car.

Chad also found this one with very similiar features but not try it. As an Amazon Associate Giz Wiz Biz earns from qualifying Amazon purchases.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Our email of the week comes from Glowforge 3D Laser printers.

There was a lot of interest in these printer when I talked about my visit to their press event in NYC last week. So viewers should be interested in this too: April 23, 2018–Glowforge launched its much-anticipated line of 3D laser printers today, giving creators, families, and small businesses the ability to bring their ideas to life at the push of a button. (And at much lower prices.)
