Giz Wiz Show #1520 May 28th , 2015. Our 4th Independently Produced Giz Wiz  Show!

Don’t forget – to see our show live (Thursdays 4:30PM PDT / 7:30PM EDT) and hopefully join the live chatroom. It’s all at www.gizwiz.tv.  (All Giz Wiz shows are there too, even when we’re not live.) If you wish to support us in our independent producing, just check on the Patreon link there. (Thank you!) And now to this week’s show!

More unique and useful gadgets from the National Hardware Show 2015, Las Vegas.

I see few people wearing safety eyewear when using power tools and even less using safety eyewear AND earplugs. Well there’s one new product that can provide both hearing protection & safety eyewear. It’s from ReadyMax and it’s called SoundShield. This product features retractable earplugs integrated within the temple pieces of safety glasses. They offer an anti-fog & scratch resistant lens. The company says their ANSI impact rated lenses absorb 99% of UV rays. As you’ll see in the video, they are available in many varieties including a model that fits over prescription glasses, a 2X magnification model, and more. Price is around $19.99 for most, $24.99 for a couple of the designer models.

Also from ReadyMax, tools that feature a built-in high-intensity LED. It turns on with a touch of a button and shines through the jaws of a pliers or adjustable tool to stay focused on the work surface. No more fumbling for a flashlight or needing an extra pair of hands when working in tight, low-light conditions. The company says their sealed HubLight is waterproof, oil proof and chemical proof. You can easily replace the three standard #392 watch batteries and the high-intensity narrow beam LED is rated at 10,000 hours. Retail is about $25 for each of the 7 new LED tools.

A handy, safe way to carry your eye or sunglasses.

When you take your glasses off, or carry a pair of sunglasses you’re not ready to wear, where do you carry them? ReadeREST is a simple solution for managing your eyewear. With ReadeREST, your glasses are always secure and within an arm's reach, thanks to the use of magnets. The device separates into two pieces. Place the back plate behind an article of clothing you’re wearing, and place the front piece on the outside. The magnets will attach, creating a v-shaped self-centering, secure holder for your glasses to hang. With the ReadeREST, never worry about glasses falling out of your shirt pocket, or keeping them secure when bending over. Depending on the style they cost $10 to $12. Available at stories like Bed, Bath & Beyond, Amazon, or the company website:

The BakPac Lock.

The ABUS BakPac 3-Digit Combination Padlock is a mini-lock that pretty does what it says. It's designed to lock together the pull ends of zippers like those on many backpacks, small suitcases, etc. It's small, and while not a heavy-duty lock, it certainly should help deter someone from opening your bag while it's on your back or unattended. This 3-Digit resettable BakPac combination lock is available in black and five bright colors. The shackle opens by pushing on the lever at the side of the lock. The combination dials are on the opposite side of the shackle. Model 151/20. Although the folks in the video say $7, that might have been the wholesale price. It’s selling for $12.50 on Amazon and it’s Amazon Prime, so free shipping if you’re a prime member.

Chad's Crappy Corner and another "moving" gadget!

When Chad told me had O'Keeffe's Working Hands, I thought he had hired someone to finish his unpacking. It turns out O'Keeffe's Working Hands is a cream, I guess for people who use their hands a lot. Here’s what Amazon says about it: O'Keeffe's Working Handsis a highly effective moisturizer for severely dry skin that frequently cracks and splits. The odorless, concentrated formula naturally hydrates the skin, adjusting the pH balance and helping to retain moisture. Creating a difference you feel within days. It’s $6.98 for a 3.4-ounce tin. And it’s on Amazon Prime, so free shipping if you’re a Prime Member. Out of almost 4200 reviews, it got 4.6 stars out of 5.

And Chad’s take?

Chad tried it for the first time on the show, so he couldn't give us a detailed use report. He did say he could feel like he had something on his skin, but it really wasn't greasy. Also it doesn't give off much of an odor. Chad was drawn to buy the product because of the really good reviews. Even as we were recording the show someone in the chatroom remarked that they used the product and loved it! Chad also thought the price was decent at under $7 and noticed on Amazon that O'Keefee's also makes a similar product for feet.

Back To Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How To Submit Your Video To The Show.

Our viewer video of the week started with this email:

Subject: Titanium ITEMS you might enjoy

Dick and Chad

Not to long ago you were discussing items made of titanium. I thought I would send you a short video of my titanium money clip. These titanium money clips were manufactured by RMI Titanium of Niles OH.

They manufacture all types of products for the Space Industry and Aerospace Industry mainly.  This particular money clip  was manufactured on the occasion of Neil Armstrong visiting the plant around 1985. He was on the Board of Directors and these were handed out to dignitaries. I managed to snag one because I had done computer favors for one of the vice president's. Also many employees there would manufacture items (on the side) or I mean under the table.

I am including a picture of a pizza pan made of titanium; it was absolutely the best ever. It held the heat and stayed hot for quite a while. Unfortunately I was unable to take a picture of the titanium snow shovel. It also was fantastic because it was light and had a very sharp edge that cut the Ice. Because of the expense of titanium these products were never commercially produced.

Thank you Dick I enjoyed the show you will notice In the video I am wearing my giz wiz flashlight hat.

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so let’s go going!

You’ll get an autographed copy of MAD Magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture if we show your video, and who knows, maybe you’ll be discovered by a YouTube Talent Agent!

Here’s what we’re looking for: Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv. (NOTICE! This is a new email address!)
