You don't need to use your hands to shoot video with Pivothead Smart Glasses. A 1080P video camera is built right into these glasses.

I first wrote about Pivothead glasses in 2012. I even used them at CES 2013 to shoot video. Pivothead glasses contain a small, almost hidden 1080P video camera built right into the frame of a pair of glasses. It's taken a couple of years, but now Pivothead is introducing their next generation: Pivothead SMART. And SMART stands for Simple Modular Application-Ready Technology. (I doubt if you'll ever hear that phrase again!) Like the original Pivothead glasses, the new SMART provides full 1080p high definition (HD) video and 8 megapixel photo capture. But the new model add Smart Mods. And what are they? SMARTMods are accessories that add power, connectivity, and apps. There is 16GB of internal memory in the Pivothead glasses, but you can add removable micro SD memory with mods. Interchangeable fuel Mods let you continuously add replaceable power to the glasses. You also control your glasses wirelessly from your smartwatch, smartphone, & more. Quick Pairing instantly pair via Bluetooth with integrated NFC. Android and iOS apps are available. The new model is available in plain glass, or customize them with your own prescription. Retail of the model is $349. The original Pivothead glasses are now marked down to $199.00.

A keyboard that splits in half - when you want it to.

UI saw this strange keyboard at The GetGeeked event in NY on October 15th, 2015. The inventors of the Ultimate Hacking Keyboard says it's the keyboard for professionals. They add that these are some of the benefits: Increase your productivity by never leaving the home row. Improve your posture by typing on two, separate keyboard halves. Remap keys in any way you want. The Ultimate Hacking Keyboard is a split mechanical keyboard which utilizes Cherry MX-style switches. It’s a fully programmable keyboard which can be vastly customized for your needs. The halves connect together securely as one piece, which is useful for transportation purposes or if you happen to prefer a one-piece keyboard. And now back to me. I did get to type on the keyboard. Strangely I had to almost connect it together to get the correct finger placement. Then I separated it a few inches and found I could type with a high rate of accuracy. But I couldn't master the built in mouse. As the spokesman said: “there is a learning curve”. At $250, it's not the keyboard for me, I just use a keyboard to write stuff, but for gamers and other computer uses, this just might be what they're looking for.

That paper airline that puts you in the cockpit. (Via remote video!)

At Toy Fair 2014 I discovered the PowerUp 3.0 Bluetooth Controlled Paper Airplane. Inventor, entrepreneur and part-time aviator Shai Goitein created what was the ultimate paper airplane. It was a paper airplane that could be battery powered and remotely-controlled. But now that was almost two years ago and PowerUp has announced the PowerUp FPV – a kit that will equip your paper planes with motorized propellers and a first-person-view video camera! The user controls the plane and views its real-time video via a smartphone app, from a maximum distance of 300 ft (91 m). This can be done either via a touchscreen interface, or by tilting the phone from side to side. The latter option means that the phone could be mounted in a VR device such as Google Cardboard, with the user then steering simply by moving their head. The PowerUp FPV consists of a front-located electronics module, a nylon/carbon fiber frame, and two props. Along with a VGA-resolution 30fps camera, the front module also contains a 3-axis gyroscope, compass and accelerometer, plus a barometer, Wi-Fi antenna, MicroSD card for recording video, and a removable 550-mAh lithium-polymer battery that should be good for up to 10 minutes of flight time per charge. It was developed in partnership with consumer drone manufacturer Parrot. PowerUp will be launching a Kickstarter campaign in November 2015, to raise production funds for the FPV. Assuming it's successful, the kit should be available next summer (Northern Hemisphere), priced at US$199. You can see a prototype in action, in the company video below.

Chad's Crappy Corner and another "As Seen on TV" gadget.

Chad polled our Patreon supporters and for his October theme they selected a fun theme: “As Seen on TV” gadgets. Chad's third “as seen on TV” gadget for October is Egg-Tastic! I see this ad all the time on TV, so I'm really glad Chad got one to try out! I was very interested in hearing how it worked.

Here's what the company said about it:

Make cooking your favorite egg recipes a breeze and mess free with the Egg-TasticTM Microwave Egg Cooker and Poacher. Crack your egg right in the ceramic pot, mix in ingredients of your choice and microwave to enjoy fast, fluffy, flavorful eggs every time right in your microwave! The vented lid allows steam to escape while the unique ceramic pot circulates heat for even cooking! No extra dishes. Prep and enjoy your meal in the same dish. Egg-Tastic is dishwasher safe to make clean up quick and easy. Nonstick coating allows for no additional oils, fats, or grease.

And Chad's take? Whoa! Chad likes Egg-Tastic a lot! As you'll see in the video, he cracked two eggs into the Egg-Tastic cup, whipped them a bit with a fork, and put them in the microwave. In a couple of minutes Chad had scrambled eggs. Although they don't look like eggs you scramble in a frying pan, Chad said they tasted very good. He didn't add anything to the eggs, although it comes with recipes of variations on eggs. Folks in the chatroom said you could do the same thing with any ceramic cup, but I would worry it might explode, or leech some chemical into the eggs. Beside for under $11, you can have the real thing. Chad found his at Walgreens, so you can check your local drugstore first.

*********

We're looking for more viewer videos and we'd love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show. Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
