Giz Wiz Show #1790 July 30, 2020 Independent Show #271

This is our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we're now going into year 15. If it wasn't for our supporters the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. Will 'Murphy's Law' Make This Gadget Come Back To Life?

Chad bought a solar fountain, demonstrated it on the show & suddenly I wanted one! Of course, I didn't buy the exact same one, I bought one with a built-in battery. It was the Viajero Latest Upgrade 2.5W Solar Fountain Pump for Bird Bath with 800mAh Battery Backup. With a battery inside I figured the idea the pump would run when the sun was weak or behind a cloud. It was a dud out of the box. I packed it up to send it back. Then, I thought let's just make sure it's dead and video record it. But saying it won't work, maybe IT WILL work! Did it work on the second try? Watch this week 's video to find out.

Spoiler Alert: (I already got a refund of my almost $36.00 for this dud.)

What The Heck Is It?

If you wanted this week's show did you guess what it is was? Did you guess a 2-In-1 flashlight that also charges your USB device? No, I don't think any one did that. Here's what Sunbeam says about their device. Convenient charging for smart phones & more. Flashlight Holds up to 2 full cell phone charges at a time. For all iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android & Tablets. Durable, 5200 mAh battery charging capacity. Detachable flashlight head w/bright LED light. Fits easily in pockets, purse, backpack, handbag. LED battery indicator lights; DC In & Output 1A. Built-in overcharge protection. USB charging cable for recharging battery & light Sleek design from a trusted brand. Price 2/$14 plus $5 shipping. Well, everything sounds okay except 1A charging is pretty slow. But several people in the chatroom liked this device, because it does double duty while looking really nice. And the price isn't bad at about $9.50 each. It's also on Amazon in black, but for about $25.00!

I Try The Signature Garden Three-Arm Sprinkler To Help Beat The NYC Heat Wave.

Remembering that the temperature in my backyard seemed lower after play with the Kid's Splash Pad a week or two ago, I decided to see if the Signature Garden Premium Lawn Sprinkler would do the same thing. (I gave the Kid's Splash Away to my neighbor's kids.)Here's a bit of info on the Signature Garden device from the company: Hydrate every inch of your lawn and garden with this 3-arm rotary sprinkler. With twelve built-in spray nozzles and an 80 PSI water pressure, this water sprinkler offers a spray distance of 32.9 ft and can provide coverage for lawns up to 3600 sq. ft. Built from durable ABS plastic with thermoplastic rubber (TPR) encapsulated sides, this rotary sprinkler is designed to last. Built-in metal weights at the base of the sprinkler provides stability, so you won’t have to worry about it moving or tipping over while in use. I liked this gadget a lot and as you'll see in our video, it did lower the temperature in the backyard. It was under $20.00 on Amazon when I bought it.

This looks like the exact one I bought, but it's less expensive.

Chad's Crappy Corner & his final gadget for his July Theme.

A perfect choice for Chad's July Cheap Gadget Theme is “Cheap Summer Solar Gadgets”.

Chad's final solar gadget is the Solarrific Solar Cooling Hat.

From the company: (They have a sense of humor, because they say something weird in the second sentence.) Solarrific Black Solar Cooling Hat a wonderful new portable air conditioning unit. It looks small but will cool an 1800 sq. foot area. Just kidding. It WILL keep you cool under the hot sun. The solar panel needs to have direct exposure to the sun, and will work until you take it out of the sun. Adjustable strap fits most head sizes. Creates cooling breeze on forehead and face. Quality fabric of 100% breathable cotton. MSRP: $24.99

And Chad's take? Chad was not blown away with this cap. He wasn't even breezed away with it. He said he felt a bit of air on his eyes, along with annoying reflections from the fan blades. He also noted the poor reviews. All in all, I think it would be fair to say instead of cooling Chad off, it made him hot under the collar - and yes, even on his head! A definite Crappy Gadget! You'll see it all as Chad demonstrates it on this week's show.

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up
hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you'll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Email of the week:

Hey Dick and Chad,

Since you have talked to a couple times now about bike locks, I thought I would share with you this bike that I just read about today. it is now available in the US and is relatively reasonably priced considering how pricey road bikes can get. The main selling point is that the lock is built into the bike! Below is a link to their website and the below that a YouTube video demonstration. Love the show!
