And now a look at our final gadgets from The National Hardware Show starting with a gadget you might not expect to find in hardware store. It's especially for boaters who will be glad to know they won't ever have to buy flares again!

Every boating season I get the USCG Auxiliary Safety Inspection which requires three fresh dated flares to be aboard. When you buy new flares they're dated to expire after abouit 3 boating seasons. It's about $35 to replace them for another three years. But now there's something way better - the SOS Distress Light! It's the first and only LED Visual Distress Signal Device that meets U.S. Coast Guard requirements to completely replace traditional pyrotechnic flares. Unlike traditional flares, this electronic flare never expires which solves the big and annoying challenge of flare disposal. Weems and Plath, the inventor, says this floating electronic flare can be hand-held, tethered, or hoisted aloft. Visible up to 10+ nautical miles, it lights for up to 60 hours, unlike traditional flares which last minutes or less. (It requires 3 “C” batteries, not included.) With the included SOS flag, this combo fulfills all Coast guard requirements for marine distress signals. And it's made in the USA. This is a great safety device for boaters! Under $100.00. It was on Amazon with free shipping, but that offered ended. It's elsewhere on Amazon too for the same price PLUS shipping. That link is below. It will also be at Marine Supply Stores.

A feature laden toilet seat.....

Although a toilet seat wouldn't be a normal choice for The Giz Wiz Show, I think this one has a lot of very useful features. It's one of those products with a real long name. It's the Mayfair NextStep Child/Adult Toilet Seat with Easy-Clean & Change Hinge. It seems to be available with the built-in potty seat, but without the easy-clean hinges, so if you want all the features Amazon says the seat listed below has them. Here's how Mayfair describes it: This unique Mayfair seat accommodates both adult and child users equally, making it the perfect seat for all of your potty training needs. With NextStep, toddlers can use the seat with confidence, knowing it is sized to hold them, is securely attached to the toilet, and will not shift underneath them. The durable plastic child ring can be easily removed for cleaning or when no longer needed. The adult ring and cover is made from durable molded wood. See the video we shot at The National Hardware Show for all the features. And remember, it's available in round or oblong sizes.

Perhaps the most unusual gadget I saw at the 2016 National Hardware Show.

Never drop your sandpaper again....

This was one of the more unusual gadgets I found at the National Hardware Show. It's called the

Peel & Stick Sanding Glove Price. The inventor says it's a new way to sand! (I've never seen anything like this before.) The Peel & Stick Sanding gloves have a permanent attached barrier to which you attach die cut sandpaper which resembles the outline of your hand. That way you can sand without having to hand the paper. It looks like it would be great to sand odd-shaped objects. And the detachable sandpaper allows the user to easily change the grits of sandpaper and use the same glove multiple times. The replacement sandpaper is offered in multiple grits making it an excellent for most all sanding jobs. The kit includes a pair of gloves, right hand and left and 3 grits of sandpaper. It's not on Amazon yet, but the inventor said it would be soon, and he expected the kit to be under $20. There's a short video at the company website.

Chad's Crappy Corner and his final gadget for his theme for May, backyard & bbq gadgets.

During Grill/BBQ month on The Giz Wiz we talked about a lot of ways to grill, but this the frist gadget we talked about that cleans grills. Chad's final gadget for May is the The Woody Paddle - A New All Natural BBQ Grill Scraper by The Great Scrape. Here's what Amazon says about it: The Great Scrape is the ultimate grill cleaning tool. It actually customizes to your grill during use to get your grill extra clean. Simply press the beveled edge of the Great Scrape against the hot grates, push from front to back and presto, all done! You can now avoid using that old wire brush or scraping metal on the same surface you put your food (not to mention those tiny bristles you could end up eating!). The Great Scrape is the perfect product for the grilling enthusiast that demands the best quality food coming off their grill. $29.95 and Amazon Prime, so free shipping if you're a Prime Member.

And Chad's take? Chad doesn't have a grill, but was attracted to this gadget because he thinks it will make a great gift for a family member who does grill. It's a very decent grade of wood and solves a problem of cleaning grills with steel pads. They might work, but you run the risk of leaving a steel shavings on the grill which could end up in cooked meat and then into someone's stomach. That's a dangerous thing. This all natural wood scraper is designed to wear down to fit the contours of your grill. You can see photos at the Amazon website. Chad paid $35 at his local outdoors store, but it's $5 cheaper on Amazon. Reviews on Amazon were good too. It got 4.2 out of 5 stars from over 100 reviewers.

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week: From Jared Cruz -- Subject: Tech box opening pricing.

Hey Dick and Chad.

I was yelling at the screen at you and Chad while watching Episode 1565: we know it smells. When you two were trying to find prices for the stuff in the Tech Box thing. The easiest way to find an exact product on Amazon is to use the actual Amazon app on a phone. I'm not sure about Android (I know you're an Android guy), but it very well might be available.

Here's how: Up top, near the search bar of the Amazon app, is a little camera symbol. It allows you to scan the barcode of any product! It'll find that exact thing if Amazon carries it at all. I know I have it on my iPhone app, I'm not sure about Android (I know you're an Android guy), but it very well might be available.

I use this when out shopping in a real store (it's kinda frowned on, but hey) to compare prices.

Love the show guys, keep up the good work. Have a great move Chad!
