Three new 2015/2016 products from CES Unveiled. (Recorded on November 10th, 2015.

Distracted driving is a growing problem. Each year, over 400,000 people are injured in car accidents involving a distracted driver. Teen drivers are four times as likely to get in a car accident than adult drivers[2], and they’re facing more and more distractions, which make it hard to stay focused on the road. We know, because we are young drivers. We also happen to be award-winning innovators and entrepreneurs, led by 19-year-old serial inventor TJ Evarts. Until now, the biggest innovations in vehicle safety have focused on making vehicles smarter and protecting drivers and passengers in an accident—but people and their driving habits provide the greatest potential for preventing accidents. That’s why we set out to develop a tool that would prevent distracted driving by helping teens become better drivers.

The result is SMARTwheel, the first intelligent steering wheel cover that uses a patented sensing technology to encourage safe hand position with real-time feedback, while delivering teachable insights via Bluetooth to our smartphone app. It’s a high-tech solution that makes it simple for drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and their focus on the road.

This company was looking for $200,000 on Kickstarter. They got more than a million!

I saw the original PicoBrew a few years ago at CES. It was a very large machine that looked fairly complicated. It was designed more for businesses than the home brewer. But the new Pico, coming March 2016, is a compact, smart-connected, fully automatic brewing appliance that brews five-liter mini kegs of fresh craft beer in about two hours. (But fermenting the beer can take days of room-temp storage.) One key to Pico’s new ease-of-use is the use of convenient pre-packaged ingredient modules called PicoPaks. Now more than 60 craft breweries and over 350 home brewers have signed up to produce PicoPaks available on its online Brew Marketplace to Pico owners. But wait, there's more! Chad was right, PicoBrew has announced that in addition to brewing top-quality fresh craft beer, the Pico also will support “modernist cuisine” sous vide cooking. Pico is available for pre-order on the PicoBrew Kickstarter pagefor a limited time starting at the purchase price of $559, which also includes aninternational version that is available to anyone around the world.

Add a Thermal Camera to Your Smart Phone.

The next generation FLIR ONE thermal imager is now available for both iOS and Android device platforms. The pocket-sized FLIR ONE transforms a mobile device into a powerful thermal imager that sees heat and accurately measures temperature. It can provide users with the incredible ability to see temperature variations smaller than a tenth of a degree. The technology enables a host of practical applications, from identifying energy inefficiencies and water leaks in a home, to enabling safe and enjoyable outdoor exploration. The new FLIR ONE utilizes a micro-USB connector for Android devices or a Lightening connector for iOS devices. The device is powered by an internal battery and utilizes FLIR's latest generation Lepton thermal camera core, which features four times the resolution of the previous version. Images are further enhanced with FLIR's patented multi-spectral dynamic imaging (MSX) technology, which embosses the edge details from FLIR ONE's visible camera onto the thermal image producing high fidelity images. MSRP: $249.99.

Chad's Crappy Corner and his final "Chad's Gadget Warehouse" for his November theme.

As an Amazon Associate Giz Wiz Biz earns from qualifying Amazon purchases.

Chad polled our loyal (and much appreciated) Patreons and asked what theme they would like to see for November. They picked: “Chad's Gadget Warehouse”. November is winding down, so for his last 'Chad's Gadget Warehouse' spot, OMGChad picked his Gameboy Pocket System. Here's a little background on it from Nintendo: This is one of the world's most popular portable video game system and it offers endless entertainment for players of all skill level with over 400 games. The new size is now compatible for the average pocket to travel anywhere. The improved screen contrasts for clear and easy-to-see game graphics. This black and white version will play the new color games just not in color form. – Chad got it as present, but thinks it retailed for about $90 some 13 years ago. Unfortunately he said it no longer works, which actually doesn't matter, because Chad can't find any of the games he owned for the his Game Boy Pocket System. But not to fear. If you still want one, there's an almost brand new one with that amazing add-on stereo speaker/magnifier attachment Chad also talked about. It's in red, just like Chad's is, and it's about $135 with shipping. (As of 11/26/15) It's here:

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

From CES 2002, it's the amazing "Guy's Keyboard". This keyboard was designed for guys who type with 2 fingers (hunt-and-peckers). It features a complete reshuffle of the keys. Not even the numbers on the keyboard are in numerical order.  Why this particular keyboard layout should work better with 2 fingers is beyond me. Actually, it turns out there's the inventor's explanation on the company website. See the link below.

The order of the letters and numbers on the Guy's Keyboard lay-out shown below:

Years ago Leo Laporte of TWiT fame said he showed this keyboard to Peter Jennings (host of World News back then) and he liked it! I suspect Peter was kidding. Or maybe not. Maybe in you're a 2-finger typist this appeals to you. And leave to the amazing Giz Wiz Chatroom to use Time Machine to go back in time to find a copy of the non-defunct Guy's Keyboard website.
