The Giz Wiz Show 1690, August 31, 2018 Independent Show #173

The Giz Wiz Show is in it's 13th year of production, and the fourth year of Independent Production! (The first show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!)

Mercury Engines, Sea Ray Boats & Marine Max have a media day on the water!

Who could resist an offer like this from Lee Gordon, Director of Global Public Relations and Communications at Mercury Marine. - Dear Dick, Can you join us for a day on the Hudson? We will have 5-6 boats on the water at Chelsea Piers. You guys can drive a boat sideways (seriously), drive it with a joystick, and see how the technology has advanced or get on a pontoon that can go 70+ mph. We will have media from the marine industry as well as mainstream and while their stories may be different, the one thing we all have in common is a love for New York and there's no better way to see it than on a boat. We will also have our Skyhook virtual anchor which uses your GPS coordinates to keep you in place, our Active Trim technology that trims your engine with a push of a button – there’s so much to choose from. Our goal in the marine industry is to make boating easier, and like the automotive world, we are trying to take any fear out of boating and make it so easy my kid (with supervision) can drive the boat. Lee G.

Yes, of course I accepted! I choose one of the more traditional boats with just twin 300 hp Merc outboards. It was a 31 footer open bow to stern which is a huge segment of the market these days. Here's a link to the video. So people can get a better idea of our test boat I inserted some video from the flash drives provided at the event.

For the next few weeks Chad is reviewing an extra gadget on every show! It's to help with us recording five weeks of shows in two weeks. (OMGchad is travelling a lot! He'll be away 25 days in September, but they'll a new Giz Wiz every week.) Here's Chad's First Extra! It's the AeroGarden Ultra (LED) with Gourmet Herb Seed Pod Kit. This is a way to have an indoor garden year round, no matter what the weather is outdoors. Here's a bit from Amazon: “Grow fresh herbs, vegetables, salad greens, flowers and more in this smart counter top garden. Up to 7 plants can be grown at a time. Plants grow in water…not soil. Advanced hydroponics made simple. High-performance, full spectrum 30-watt LED lighting system is tuned to the specific spectrum that allows plants to maximize photosynthesis, resulting in rapid, natural growth and abundant harvests.” In this week's show you'll see the built in interactive LCD screen control panel that tells you when to add water and reminds you when to add patented nutrients (included). But wait, there's more! It automatically turns lights on and off and provides timely tips and on-screen help functions. Includes 7-Pod Gourmet Herb Seed Kit that contains: Genovese Basil, Thai Basil, Thyme, Mint, Curly Parsley, Chives and Dill & 3 oz. patented nutrients (enough for a full season of growth). 4.4 stars out of five from 493 reviews. $240.00. Yes, Chad points out, that's expensive. But he bought it on Prime Day when it was $100 off. And he loves it! Chad also points out there are less deluxe models all the down to $99.99.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Final Gadget For His August Theme!

Our Patreon picked subject for this month - really cheap “Outdoor Cooking Gadgets”, comes to an end with Chad's final Gadget!

Chad picked “The Fire Wire Stainless Steel Flexible Grilling Skewer”. Nothing to do with Apple's Firewire, this is a simple grilling gadget. According to Amazon, this flexible cable style skewer allows you to effectively use the space on your grill like never before. Slide food onto the Fire Wire skewer and it stays on. Drape the flexible skewers over the edges of your grill, and the ends of the skewer stay cool thanks to the innovative stainless steel construction. Instead of fiddling around with a grill tool, just pick up the end of the skewer and turn your meat and vegetables over. The flexible cable design secures more than twice as much per kebab than a straight skewer and allows you to more effectively use the space on your grill. They're dishwasher safe, and won't rust because they're made from 100 percent stainless steel.

And Chad's take? Chad like the Fire Wire Skewers. His grill wasn't working, but he was able to use a frying pan because this skewers can be closed into a tight circle for cooking if you want. Watch this week's show to see all of Chad's comments, but for under $6 for two, Chad likes these a lot.

Back to Dick's Gadget Warehouse and How You Can Submit Your Video.

No LED’s, no secret pockets, but a baseball cap still worth owning ten years after I got it.

I didn't plan on doing my own Gadget Warehouse Video on this week's show, but another heat wave in NYC changed that. I had to go to Dick's Gadget warehouse to find my water cooling cap! And I found it --- from ten years ago. Here what I wrote about it in July, 2008..

The Gorgonz Work Hat came in real handy when I attended the Marine Accessories Show in Las Vegas in July. Outside temperatures were 105 to 110 during the day! The Gorgonz is designed to keep your head cool when it’s warm and warm when it’s cool. I’ve only used to keep my head cool, and it works really well. Unlike other hats that trap sweat and heat, this work hat uses Hydroweave technology to pull sweat and heat from the head. Here’s how to stay cool in blazing heat: Soak the inside of hat with cold water. Let the water soak into hat for 2-3 minutes and then wring out excess water. Repeat as needed. To stay warm wear the hat dry. Duh! After I walked about a mile in that Vegas heat I had lunch at a restaurant. Then before heading out into the heat again, I dumped some ice water from my glass in the hat! Works great. $20.

That was posted ten years ago --and it turns out the Gorgonz Cap is still available!

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
