The Giz Wiz Show # 1824 – Thursday 3/25/21 Independent Show #303

Wow! This is Giz Wiz Show 5 of year 16! (The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20^th 2006!) We start this week's show with Gizneyland's brand new LG 29WN600 Ultra Wide Screen Monitor. It's replacing my old HP 2408h monitor that gave up the ghost after 12 or 13 years of fine service. Back then it cost about $450.00 which in today's $ is roughly $1436.00! At first I was just going to buy a replacement monitor, then I thought I should get something bigger, better and more techie. After searching online and reading reviews, I decided on the LG 29WN600-W 29" 21:9 UltraWide WFHD IPS HDR10 Monitor with FreeSync. The resolution is Full HD (2560 x 1080) and it's an IPS display. In one of the Amazon reviews I read that the W series, which stands for white, also includes 2 7-watt stereo speakers with Audio Maxx technology. I'm not sure what that does or what the SRGB 99% Color Gamut is. I do know that HDR is good, thanks to Scott Wilkinson at TWiT and this display is HDR 10 Compatible. The software I downloaded from the LG website includes OnScreen Control that lets you devide the screen real estate 18 different ways with as many as 8 different images on the 29” display at some time. MSRP: $249.99. I paid $224.99 on Amazon.

We solve our Giz Wiz microphone problem with the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. After a major Windows Update my mic made my voice sound deep, really deep. After going back to an older driver we were able to get the mic sounding right again. I asked Leo Laporte on The Tech Guy would another Windows update mess the mic up again. I didn't need the Sunpak LED9 Video Light, but it was on sale for $7.95!!!!

When I got an email from BH photo that the Sunpak VL-LED-09was reduced from $24. 95 to $7.95, I immediately ordered one. For that price I thought, 'hopefully I might be able to use this!' First some info from BH Photo. The Sunpak VL-LED-09 Compact Video Light is powered by three AAA batteries. It comes with a shoe mount that makes the light compatible with all cameras and camcorders. The ultra-compact Video Light delivers better color, contrast and clarity when shooting video in low-light situations. The 9 tiny LEDs bathe your subjects in rich warm light. They never heat up, no-matter how long you have the light on. Plus, the compact housing weighs only 1.6 ounces and is the perfect size to carry along with your camera. It even has a threaded base for mounting on a tripod. – And they didn't even mention it comes with a diffuser filter and color-correcting filter. It was a bargain and it was fun making the video about it, but I don't have definite use for it yet. It was back to $24.95 on 3/26/21. Strangely, there is a 12 LED light version of this Sunpak light for under $20 on Amazon. More LED's, less $. I'm not sure why.
