Giz Wiz Show 1724 April 25, 2019 Independent Show #206

Wow! The Giz Wiz Show started year 13 overall & our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

The Giz Wiz visits the NY 2019 Auto Show & Meets the 2020 Rivian Electric Discover Truck.

I thought this was an interesting truck concept when I saw it at the 2019 NY Auto Show, but it became a lot more interesting when I saw an article about the company in Thursday's (4/25/19) New York Times. Seems Ford is VERY interested in this truck and this company and is investing $500,000M in it. That's after Amazon's $700,000M investment, so Rivian must be on to something big! Amazon reportedly wants them to build electric delivery trucks for them. Rivian has introduced the first fully electric truck I've heard of, the Adventure R1T. The company also introduced a new all electric SUV, and the two new models should be out by the end of 2020. They're being built at a former Mitsubishi plant in central Illinois. They're powered by four 147-kilowatt electric motors, one on each wheel which means there's has a lot of room in each model for storage of varying kinds. You'll see the unique 'sport gear tunnel' in the video on this week's show. Base price will be $62,000 for a 230-mile-range truck and a $1,000 refundable deposit will get you on the waiting list.

Meet The Karlmann King, the king of SUV's!

It's always fun to seek out the most expensive vehicle at the auto show, and I actually found the world's most biggest, heaviest, most expensive & maybe even the most gaudy SUV not only at the show, but maybe ever! It's more than 18' long, 8 ½' high, and 8 ½' wide. It's made of carbon fiber (or heavy steel plate if you like) and costs upwards of $1.8M. You'll have to watch this week's show as Michael, the Karlmann King spokesperson lists some of the included extras like a safe, expresso maker, massage lounges, karaoke machine, satellite phone, etc., etc. It's powered by a Ford F-550 V-10 gas engine, but you can pretty much get any engine you want as long it fits in the huge chassis. Since this SUV weights 13,000 pounds the top speed is about 87 mph. A turbo-charged engine would bring it to about 100+. You have to see the size of this vehicle to believe it.

Google Home Can Now Leave Home & Get Into Your Car.

Reporters learned about the Roav Bolt at CES 2019. But it just became available for sale this past Tuesday, April 17th. The Roav Bolt is an aftermarket device by Anker that brings the Google Assistant to almost any car. Optimized for Android devices, just say, “Hey Google,” or tap the button on Roav Bolt to find the nearest coffee shop, play your favorite song or podcast, navigate home, read texts, make calls, set reminders, and check your schedule for the day. If you have an iPhone, the company says there's a beta version that doesn't have all the features of the Android version right now. It’s super easy to set up. Just plug the Bolt into your car’s charging socket and connect it to your phone’s Bluetooth and your car’s stereo. (There's a 3.5mm AUX cable in the box if there's no Bluetooth in your car.) The twin built in noise reduction mics are designed to help ensure your Assistant hears you clearly, even if your phone is locked or stashed away. The top of the device has the same four familiar LED lights as the Google home mini. On the side of the bolt are two 2.4v USB inputs to charge devices as you roam. It's available now at Best Buy & Anker online, other places soon.... $49.99 MSRP.

Back to Dick's Gadget Warehouse and How You Can Submit Your Video.

Hi Dick and Chad,

This is a video for a fun kitchen gadget. I researched cheap and expensive milk frothers and found a great one for only $14.99 on Amazon. The reviews for this gadget were really good so it was worth a try. This is a kitchen gadget that works surprisingly well for $14.99.

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Our letter of week comes from Giz Wiz Fan Buddy Yates. At first we thought it brought incredible (and kind of sad) news to fans of the Giz Wiz Show ---

His email said:

Foldimate is No More. I'm sure you have heard by now but I’ll send the article just in case.

https://www.engadget.com/2019/04/23/laundroid-robot-seven-dreamers-bankruptcy/

-fade to black. Buddy Yates.

From the Giz Wiz: But surprise! When we went to the article we discovered it's about a Foldimate competitor, Laundroid. They are closing down, not Foldimore. So Foldimate lives on and perhaps we'll see them again at CES 2020.
