Giz Wiz Show #1503. Final Three Gadgets from CES 2015. January 29, 2015

Giz Wiz Show #1503!  Final Three Gadgets from CES 2015.  Jan 29, 2015

Here’s a bike tail-light with a difference. It has a built-in video camera! Called the Fly 6 from Cycliq it’s a 100% waterproof rear light with HD camera and audio recorder built in. Let your light watch your back so you can ride worry free while you have a video recording if you need it. The 720 HD camera works in low light conditions and offers a 100 degree view. And because weight matters the company says the Fly6 tips the scales at just over 100 grams! This light/camera combo records in 10-minute intervals and automatically filters recordings from different days into separate files. Playback is easy with files saved in AVI format, which works on most common media players. When it comes to recharging, just plug it in to your computer via USB and the Lithium ion battery will run for a 6+ hours. It ships with a choice of fittings + spacers and a 8GB Class 10 MicroSD card. Here are some more specs from Cycliq: Records 720p Video at 30 fps / AVI Format with H.264 Compression / 100° FOV Wide-Angle Lens / 30 Lumen LED Tail Light / Continuous or Flashing LED Modes / Four Dimming Modes from 100% to Off / Battery Provides up to 6 Hours of Use / 8GB micro SDHC Card Included. $249.

A travel device that does a lot.

Satechi seems to have the knack of coming up with very useful, reasonably priced gadgets. The Satechi Smart Travel Router / Travel Adapter is one of them. First off it has a plug that adapts to fit into four of the most common plug configurations used around the world. Then the built-in travel router features four different modes for your wireless networking needs on the road. There are also two options provided to charge your device: an AC power port and a USB port. So this compact adapter is convenient for charging smartphones, laptops, music players, cameras, e-readers, tablets, and other devices all around the world. (Be aware though that the Smart Travel Router can only support passwords containing letters and numbers. Special characters cannot be used.) It also functions as a typical router, connecting to the Internet and broadcasting a wireless signal, enabling you to create your own network or as a repeater, connecting to your existing network and amplifying it. You can find all the tech specs at the company website. It retails for under $50. Be aware Satechi make the same device without the router functions, which sells for about $25. At first I thought I had found this device on sale for half price, but it was not the Travel Router version.  $49.99.

Even before Toy Fair in New York City next month (Feb 2015) here's a preview from WowWee.

Last year we talked about the MiP robot who can zoom around balancing things like a can of soda of a tray he can carry. Well the folks at WowWee said they felt MiP needed company, so they created the MiPosaur. Here what WowWee says about their new creation. The MiPosaur is a highly intelligent robotic creature with an incredible, evolving intelligence and personality. It can sense its own surroundings and environment, and interact with them in a unique and lifelike way. In addition to featuring GestureSense technology that lets you control it with the swipe of your hand, the MiPosaur has sturdy MIP (Mobile Inverted Pendulum, created with the UCSD Coordinated Robotics Lab) balance and comes with an interactive TrackBall equipped with BeaconSense technology. With it, the MiPosaur can chase the trackball, play with it, guard it, as well as alter its moods depending on the various interactions. The MiPosaur is fully interactive with the MiP robot and a BLE enabled app, compatible with both iOS and Android smart devices, and will feature exciting and engaging games. MSRP $119.99 Mid Q3 2015 Release which usually means Fall 2015.

Chad's Crappy Corner and another "multipurpose gadget"!

Chad's theme for January is multi-purpose gadgets. For this week Chad picked the Kangaroo Autoseal Hydration Bottle - a multipurpose water bottle. Here’s what Amazon says about it:

Whether you're taking spin, hot yoga, hitting trails or tennis balls, the 24 oz. Kangaroo AUTOSEAL Hydration Bottle with Storage Pouch is a great fit for the task at hand. This water bottle features a one-touch AUTOSEAL lid that automatically seals between sips to eliminate spills and leaks. The 24 oz. Kangaroo has a handy storage pouch for hiding small valuables while your doing your activity. This BPA-free water bottle also has a spout shield to protect against dirt and an ergonomic carabineer handle that attaches to backpacks and other gear. Don't let the looks fool you; this water bottle is rugged and is top-rack dishwasher safe after a hard days use too.

And Chad's take?  Chad said he's been using this water bottle for a while now and he likes it. It has a lot of features in addition to the storage pocket. The wide mouth lets you easily add ice and there's a hook so it can hang on a backpack or other places. And the bottom is designed so it can fit in the cup holder of his car.

You can get an autographed copy of MAD Magazine and a 35 year old Alfred E. Neuman picture, plus a piece of crap from the TWiT Brickhouse if we show your video. So don’t you think you should make a video for us too? Details below.

                                     +++++++++++

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so let’s go going!

Here’s what we’re looking for: Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send our producer, Jeff Needles, the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you will now be awarded with some sort of prize. Like an autographed MAD magazine and some piece of crap. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!
