The Giz Wiz for the week of July 31st, 2012, Netcast 1375.

Here's are twp handy, tiny, charge and snyc cable systems!

First Scoshe came out with their flipSYNC keychain USB charge and sync cables. Now they’ve introduced a newer version called clipSYNC. These useful charging cables are pocket-sized, ideal for travel. Each one is about the size of a car alarm remote control, but offer users a convenient syncing cable when on the go. The newer version is reinforced with aluminum and has a built in carabineer clip. Clip it on a belt loop, back or fanny pack, even a key chain.  There are two versions. There’s clipSYNC that features an iPhone/IPod 30 pin connector at one end and a regular 2.0 USB connector at the other. The second unit clipSYNC features both Mini and Micro USB connections on one end, and a standard 2.0 USB connector on the other. Retail for each 19.99. You can find the earlier plastic version for about half that price if you do a web search. They were called flipSYNC.

www.scosche.com

It's under $10 on Amazon at the link below. I have not shopped here:

Something new from Nokero! The folks who create innovative solar devices.

A couple of weeks ago we covered the Nokero Solar Powered Rechargeable “Ed” LED mini-light. (Link below) Nokero develops durable, easy to easy, rugged devices aimed at helping third world nations use solar power in place of Kerosene. They sells their innovative products here in the US at very reasonable prices to raise money and awareness for their work. Now the company has introduced their newest product, the RayCel Solar Mobile Phone Battery Charger. Use the RayCel to charge your cell phones and cameras with the power of the sun. Simply insert any 3.7 volt removable battery into the universal charging port, and using the sliding “+” and “-“ pins to line up with the + and – shown on your battery. (I didn’t recall that batteries had such markings, but all the batteries I checked, did have them.) I didn’t see how one battery charger could charge different sized 3.7 volt batteries, but the sping-loaded back plate adjusts to various lengths. Once the pins and the battery are in place, set the RayCel in direct sunlight. A red LED will come on to tell you your battery is being charged. It will turn green when the battery has full power. Note that this device can only charge devices with a removable battery. That lets out devices such as Apple iPhones, iPods, and some newer Nokia phones which have non-removable batteries. Nokero  says the RayCel charges a 800mAh phone battery in as fast as 4 hour in bright sun. (But charging conditions vary according to weather, region and time of year.)  The RayCel is made of durable, lightweight and UV-resistant ABS plastic. The solar panel is packaged in an EVA + PET lamination process to protect it from UV-degradation and water damage. The RayCel has very few parts – an important design feature on products made for this application, and a production decision that keeps the price as low as possible. $29 MSRP, 31% intro discount = $20.

Hair today, gone tomorrow. Actually hair can be gone is seconds.

The Wahl Lithium Ion+ (Model 9818) is a high tech looking, heavy duty, stainless steel trimmer. With some 22 pieces of cutting gear it can pretty much groom every part of your body. With the Lithium Ion+ Tool, you get 4 hours of run time after a full one-hour charge. If you forget the charge the unit, it can do a quick charge, which will give you 3 minutes of run time with a 1-minute charge. (A slight down side is that the unit will not run when it’s plugged in, so the quick-charge feature is a big help.) The company says it has twice the torque compared to Wahl's standard trimmer. It’s great for really short (like almost bald) hair like mine. Changing attachments is easy too, once you do it a couple of times. The worldwide voltage makes this trimmer a great travel tool too. There’s a travel pouch in the kit too. Lower priced trimmers with NICAD or NIMH batteries will quit working long before the newer Lithium Ion battery technology will give up. A nice blue LED indicator light lets you know when the battery is running low on power and needs to be recharged. When plugged in, it will continue to blink while charging, then go out to indicate the Lithium Ion+ is fully charged. MSRP is $69.99, but it’s available on Amazon for about $55.

I haven’t shopped this link, but it’s under $55 here:

Leo’s Turn The Table Turkey – or Turn The Table Treasure?

Leo’s pick this week is something he never picked before -- an iBook. While everyone is going nuts over “50 Shades of Gray” and spending up to $29.97 for all three versions, Leo came up with The Diamond Book as his TTTT suggestion.  Yes, it’s hot, it’s sexy, and it has ‘dirty parts’ (I’ve heard), but it only sells for 99 cents! That’s only 10% of the selling price of the books in number 1, 2 and 3 places. Leo read us the book’s description: “When Brianna Young discovers that Roman Dyle, the man she built a relationship and a multimillion dollar company with, has gotten married to another woman behind her back, she embarks on a journey to realize her dreams of professional and sexual revenge for everything she had endured at the hands of Roman. Brianna seeks her romance from The Diamond Club, an exotic gathering of the Bay Area’s most attractive and interesting people, from angel investors and airline pilots to world-famous chefs and dub step artists. Gripping and emotionally charged, The Diamond Club is a story of revenge and discovery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.” Then he let us in on a little secret. The Diamond Club is a fake book, dreamed up by magician and scam artist Brian Brushwood, with sidekick Justin Robert Young. (Yeah, crazy the NSFW guys on TWiT!) They wrote the first part of the book and then completely crowd-sourced (with a lot of help from the TWiT chat room) a fake erotica book for the iBookstore. The compiled collection of submissions from readers was dubbed: The Diamond Club by Patricia Harkins-Bradley–telli (another fake bit)! As of this writing, (7:24 PM EDT, July 31st) it’s in 4th place on iTunes! Pretty amazing! All the profits will be used for a giant party at an upcoming event!

Gadget Warehouse - And this week is another gadget from a viewer's warehouse!

The Amazing Sega IR7000!

It turns out lots of people have a gadget or two – or twenty that they hate to part with. So why not share them with us, like Chris Glass did. He still has his Sega IR7000 from the late 90’s. Here’s his email, and a link to the video he sent us.

-----------------------------------------------

Desperate for content? I'll be glad to oblige. I have my own little treasure trove of old gadgets to dig up. I deliberately tried to keep the production quality lower, using my basic webcam.

Anyways, enjoy!
