The Giz Wiz Show 1661, February 9th 2017 Independent Show #144

The Giz Wiz Show will start it's13th year this month! And soon we'll be entering our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv.

You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make more money, it's to help us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks.)

This week we look at four housewares gadgets that will be featured at the upcoming Housewares Show in Chicago this March, 2018. We saw them at the New York 2018 International Home + Housewares Show Preview in January.

First up, the Kalorik Easy Pour Waffle MAKER. Making waffles is often a messy chorse. But Kalorik says it's a lot easier

with their Easy Pour Waffle Maker. Simply use the included measuring cup to pour batter into the spout of the closed waffle maker. Yes, it looks like that would be a disaster, but the spokesperson assured me that the rugged gasket (with no-spill technology) holds the batter firmly in place. With the batter inside just adjust to desired temperature setting and when the green LED lights you will have a perfectly cooked waffle. The adjustable angle makes it possible to evenly distribute batter easily and efficiently. Indicator lights plus five browning levels for custom cooked waffles. The included measuring cup provides perfectly sized - 7" diameter 1" thick Belgian waffles. MSRP: $49.99. Was not on Amazon yet as of 2/8/18

The Kalorik XL Digital Airfryer allows you to fry, grill, bake, or roast all your favorite foods. It can cook anything from French fries and onion rings to steaks, cakes, and vegetables with the touch of a button. Featuring an adjustable temperature up to 400° F and a built-in 60-minute timer, this user-friendly appliance is operated via the touchscreen interface on its LED control panel. Kalorik says it evenly cooks food by circulating hot air around the food and this model is for large for family-style cooking with its 5.5 quart basket. Its non-stick coated, removable parts are dishwasher safe. The XL Airfryer can be used to cook fresh or frozen food and even comes equipped with 7 preset options that take the guesswork out of cooking. But wait, there's more! As an added bonus, a basket divider that enables you to airfry 2 types of food simultaneously. And oil free air frying can offer up to 80% less fat than traditional oil frying. Stainless steel top cover and handle cover. $129.99

Are you a fan of 'cold brew coffee'?

Then you might want to know about the Asobu Coldbrew Portable Cold Brew Coffee Maker. The only thing I know about cold brew coffee is that it has a lot of avid fans! So when I saw a cold brew portable and vacuum insulated way to brew coffee I had to stop. Here's what the company says about cold brew: “Using hot water on your coffee granules creates a more acidic bitter drink while using cold water with coffee and allowing it to steep as with the Asobu cold brew creates 80% lower acidity, deeper and smoother, naturally sweet taste and also gives it that extra punch of caffeine. Not having any heat in the process also preserves antioxidants making the cold brew coffee a healthier more natural choice.” But wait, there's more. The Asobu portable '2 in one' cold brewer doesn’t need to be refrigerated. The brewing carafe is constructed from 100% Bpa free non-breakable tritan with a reusable superfine double wall stainless steel mesh cone to give the purest smoothest coffee brew. The take on the go 40oz mug is made with copper double walled vacuum insulation so your brew will keep cold for hours. But, their brewer and mug is compatible for hot coffee as well. The company adds: The Asobu Brewer hold 6 servings so you can leave in the fridge for up to 2 weeks and still get that same great rich and fresh concentrate. It's available in copper, silver, black and white for $50.00 (Some places $49.99.)

Two New Picture Frames, Each With A Unique Feature.

I normally would have walked right on by a display of picture frames thinking there's nothing techie about them. But then I saw a block of foam on the Vista Frame table and I wondered what the connection was. It turns out the company has a wonderful goal and a super way to help save the planet with their frames. Here's how they put it: “Our frames preserve their contents, and keep them beautiful. Our process preserves the Earth, keeping it beautiful. We know it’s important to feel good about what you buy, so "picture this" for a moment... We pick up tons and tons of polystyrene [aka Styrofoam] from all over the world, process it into tiny pellets, and turn it into the material we use for our frames. All the while keeping it out of landfills! Doing good by creating things that look good in your home. All of Vista frames are ready made in popular sizes and are designed to be hung vertically or horizontally. So go ahead, and enjoy your Vista.” And I was amazed at how reasonably priced they are. They start at about $7 and up, most selling in the $12 to $15 range the spokesperson said.

The Edgewood Frames are made with standard frame materials (not Styrofoam) but they feature a new removable easel so you can easily move a picture from a table to the wall. I don't see frame with that feature mentioned on the company website yet, but it's a brand new feature.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Second Gadget For His New February Theme.

Chad's Crappy Corner Theme for February, as voted on by our loyal Patreons, is “gadgets with apps”. This week's gadgets is definitely not crappy! Everyone, including me and the folks in the Giz Wiz chatroom, loved it! It's the: Perfect Drink 2.0 Smart Scale and Interactive Recipe App, Wireless (Bluetooth 4.0)

Here's what Amazon says about it: Bring the cocktail experience home and impress friends with out-of-this-world amazing cocktails you made! Perfect Drink PRO Smart Scale and Interactive Recipe App makes mixology simple and foolproof, regardless of your experience. Choose from 400+ taste-tested recipes or create and save your own unique concoctions. Compatibility: iOS 7.0 or higher, Android 4.3 or higher, NEW - Kindle Fire (3rd gen or higher). 2 AAA batteries required (not included). $19.95 -- includes the scale, the cocktail shaker and stand for your smart device!

And Chad's take: Chad loved this too. You really have to watch this week's show to see Chad using it. Basically it shows you how to make drinks which you make right on the scale in the included cocktail shaker. No measuring, just following the rising level in the picture of a cup on your smart device app. You can even tell it when liquors you already have and it will tell you what you can make with them! And it's only $19.95 which includes the scale, the cocktail mixer, and the stand for your smart device. How much did I like it? I bought just order one on Amazon!

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Our viewer video this week came with this email in which the sender (Doug) says we'll love his video within the video --- and we did! It's pretty impressive and done with a really cheap gadget.

Hey Dick & Chad,

Here's a warehouse video for you of a gadget you didn't cover when you did spy gadgets. The keychain camera.

You'll love the video I made with it.

https://youtu.be/Q5xf7X4wk90

I'll be here, Doug from NJ

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

From: Dan Wakerhauser

Subject: interesting gadget announced from Nintendo

I hope you two had fun at CES. Since you don't usually cover video games, you may not have seen this product announcement from Nintendo this week . But it seems like it would be right up your alley since you cover a lot of tech toys. I'd love to see your reaction to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3Bd3HUMkyU

From the Giz Wiz: Thanks for sharing, Dan. This is a great idea. And a lot of people think so too. The video already has more than 12 million views.
