Giz Wiz Show #1558 for Feb 19th, 2016 - our 42nd Independently Produced Giz Wiz Show

Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show continues in 2016!

If you'd like to support OMGChad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves) just click the Patreon link at the top of this link: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support.

This week, and for the next couple of weeks, it's fun, educational and maybe even scarey gadgets from Toy Fair 2016!

At the top of the show Chad talked about and showed off his new DJI OSMO Handheld Stabilized 4K 12MP Camera. If you haven't seen this device which Chad will take with him on his travels, be sure to watch this episode. The DJI Osmo MSRP is $649, but Chad paid $90 less ($559.00 as of 2/18/16) on Amazon and it was Amazon Prime, so he got it in two days. It's here on Amazon:

Now on to the rest of the show.

Paul G. Toys was showing Robotime 3D Wooden Puzzle Toys and a very scary flying Pterodactyl. The Robotime 3D Wooden Robotic Puzzle Toys consists of large and small 3D animated ancient animals. They start out as flat pieces of wood and end up as 3D moving, sound-making fun toys. They have 3 modes of operation: demo mode, free range mode and RC control mode. The half-egg shaped remote overs 2 different roar functions, walk forward, turn left, turn right and even a little 'dance' mode. Paul G Toys says they're easy to assemble with no glue or tools necessary. On Amazon I see one of them is on sale now: The Robotime Large T-REX, Robotic Dinosaur 3D Puzzle, 14.5' x 10.9" x 2.6. It got 4.4 out of 5 stars from 8 customer reviews. The MSRP is $59.99, but as of 2/17/16 is was selling for $34.99 with free shipping for Prime Members.

The awesome remote control Flying Pterodactyl you saw in the video isn't on sale yet. It's big, loud and scary with its 5-foot wing spam and piercing scream. You can preorder it on the company website, but it's priced at $399.00 there. In the video, our spokesperson says it will retail for $299.00. So unless you're in a hurry and have unlimited funds, I'd wait until it gets into the market place when I assume the price will be $299.00, maybe less depending on demand.

Before kids play with this computer, they have to put it together.

The company says their Kano Computer Kitis a computer anyone can make. You build and code it yourself. It’s a fun way to make, play and express your creativity with technology. From what I saw, the kit indeed looks simple to build, especially with the easy-to-follow picture instruction book. I asked what ages Kano is for and they said it works especially well for children between the ages of 6 or 7 and about 12. Once all the plug-and-play pieces are connected, you have a mini computer and you can start to make music and artworks with code, even build stuff in Minecraft. They said it's also good for home and making documents, but you probably don't want to mention that to a kid. I asked about the language used by the Kano Computer and the spokesperson at the booth said it was based on the very popular Linux OS. Since the Kano has HDMI out, you can hook it to any monitor or screen with an HDMI input. But Kano make their own monitor which has a place on the back to hold booth the Kano computer and the included keyboard. It's AC powered. The Computer Kit comes with 11 plug-and-play components including: A Raspberry Pi 2 - Wireless keyboard with multi-touch trackpad - A DIY speaker, case-mounted and powered by GPIO - wer and HDMI cables - Wi-Fi dongle, Kano OS 8GB Memory Card - A US, UK or EU USB power supply - Two illustrated story books: “Make a computer” and “Code powers” - 4 sheets of stickers and case cards. When the computer is built, Kano provides an introduction to various programming languages including Python and Javascript. Kids will learn Python through our Kano Blocks by making Minecraft and Pong, and can dive into the world of Linux by going on a Terminal Quest and by making Snake. And yes, there are 4 levels of parental controls on the Kano Computer Kit, ranging from blocking blacklisted websites to only allowing access on Kano World. The computer is $149, and the build-it-yourself monitor kit is $149. But you can them together as a full kit for $270, so you save money bucks there. And check the company website. I saw a special price of $249.00 there as of 2/26/16, but I don't know how long that price will be in effect.

Wet Head, a fun water roulette game.

At Toy Fair I saw the winner of the best board game for 2015 was Pie Face. Fans of the Giz Wiz know all about Pie Face. Well Pie Face was 2015 and I found what just might be a new winner for 2016, Wet Head! Fill Wet Head, which looks like a hard hat, with cold water. Then strap on the water filled Wet Head. The first player spins the top to find out the number of rods keeping the water back he or she has to pull out. If you stay dry, pass Wet Head to the next player. You can make Wet Head the perfect game for any season by adjusting the amount of water you use to play. Fill Wet Head to brim when outside in the summer heat, put in just a little when it's cold out, or you're playing indoors. Great fun to see who will end up being the next “Wet Head'". Available now. MSRP is $19.99.

Chad's Crappy Corner and another gadgets for his February theme: Office Gadgets.

Chad emailed our loyal (and much appreciated) Patreon supporters and asked them to pick a February, 2016 theme of the month they would like to see. They voted and picked cheap office gadgets.

And Chad's pick of the week is the Desktop / Tabletop, Coffee Tea Beverage Warmer by Intertek. Here's what Amazon said about it: Keep your drink warm! •Non Stick Coated Heating Surface •Power On Light Idicator •Hi/Low Temp Function •Slim Stylish Gray.

And Chad's take? Well, as Chad showed us, this coffee warmer is really is a piece of crap. After it was plugged in for a bit, Chad said it felt like it might just be able to keep your coffee luke warm. And that was on the 'high' setting. I asked Chad to check the wattage of the device, and it was 9 watts, not very much. And it cost $18.00. But then the chat room suggested the Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer instead. And it turns out I do too. It's the one I use daily and it works great. It doesn't have a high/low setting, but it does keep coffee hot enough to be enjoyable for a long time. And it's 17 watts, almost twice the power of the one Chad bought. But wait there's more. When Chad went back to the page on Amazon where he ordered his, it said: “No longer available”. But that's okay, because it turns out the Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer, which got great review is cheaper.

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)
