Meet ChiP! The robot dog that acts a lot more like a pet than a toy.

I met ChiP for the first time at CES 2016. (CHiP stands for Canine Home interactive Pet.) Wowwee says their new trainable, loyal, & affectionate CHiP can recognize, obey, learn, and wants to be your new best friend. CHiP simulates interactions with a real dog: feels hungry, needs attention, loves to play, and goes to sleep. (But you don't have to take him for 'potty break' walks.) Something Wowwee calls Smartband technology enables CHiP to recognize you, follow you, wait for you to come home, and remind you for mealtime or playtime. Artificial intelligence lets CHiP follow commands, fetch a ball, avoid obstacles, and learn new tricks. An advanced locomotion system allows for high speed, omni-directional motion and extreme agility. He communicates in woofs, growls, whines, and barks, but doesn't eat shoes, or pillows, or anything like that. Capacitive touch sensors allow CHiP to feel pets and pats. Unlock more tricks as you get closer to him. He can Sit - Stay – Come - Lay Down - Go To Bed (he charges while he's in bed) - Bow - Sing and Chase A Ball. He's due out in Summer, 2016 at $199.00, but there's a $179 preorder price at their website (as of 2/4/16)

What? A Game Console For Your Dog (Cats can play too)!

It's often said that a dog with a job is a happy dog. And that's why CleverPet says it offers unlimited adaptive all-day play. With smart software built by PhDs in computational neuroscience, CleverPet is designed to fulfill your dog’s cognitive needs. It’s optimized for dog engagement, right down to its lights, sounds, and colors. Puzzles using touch pads, lights, and customizable sounds, paired with food-dispensing rewards, change to match your dog’s mood. New games update automatically on the CleverPet Hub via WiFi. With the app you can turn CleverPet on or off, or set it to run at particular times during the day. You can also track your dog’s food intake to make sure it’s just right and see progress in real time. What game level did your dog reach today? The company is taking preorders now. Retail will be $299. It plans to ship its first units in April.

The new Litter-Robot Open-Air Automatic Cat Litter Box Can Alert You Via Bluetooth When You Cat Uses It.

Here's what a bit of what Amazon says about the new Litter-Robot Open-Air, Self-Cleaning Automatic Cat Litter Box. It makes cat ownership easier for pet parents. It sifts clumps and waste out of the litter 3-7 minutes after a cat leaves and drops the waste in to a receptacle drawer for easy disposal. A drawer full indicator light will notify you when the waste drawer is full so you never have to guess when to empty your Litter-Robot. The larger, more ergonomic cat entry and litter chamber along with the new self-adjusting cat sensor accommodates cats weighing 5 lbs or more. There is also an automatic night light that provides lighting for elderly cats during night time visits to the litter box. Other new features include control panel lockout, variable wait time setting, 8 hour sleep mode, and a battery backup option. On Amazon 76 customers gave it 4.6 stars out of five stars. I think that's pretty amazing, considering the retail price is $449.00.

Chad's Crappy Corner and a brand new theme for February.

Chad emailed our loyal (and much appreciated) Patreon supporters and asked them to pick a February, 2016 theme of the month they would like to see. They voted and picked "Crappy Office Products". First up on the list is the: Generic Mini USB Fridge (RED). Here's what Amazon says about it. (BE SURE TO READ “Minimum System Requirements” –a couple of which obviously doesn't belong in the description!) With the USB Mini Fridge you can keep a cool beverage ready to drink at all times! The personal USB Fridgerator holds a single 12 ounce can which is illuminated from the blue LED inside the fridge. Its built-in cooling plate quickly drops to its lowest operating temperature within five minutes after being plugged in. The USB Mini Fridge can be used in your cubicle, home office, bedroom or garage! It works with any computer operating system and does not requires batteries. Simply plug the USB port in, insert your canned drink and enjoy! $19.99 and Amazon Prime (as of 2/4/16) Minimum system requirements:

1. PC and Macintosh platforms  2. 32 MB of system RAM

3. 100 MB available hard disk space 4. One available USB 1.1 port

And Chad's take? First of all, those stupid system requirements, which Chad showed us also appear on the box for the Mini USB refrigerator, spelled "Fridgerator" above. Why would this can cooler need RAM and hard disc space? Also as you'll learn in this week's show, Chad said the device worked for about 2 hours before the fan stopped. Even with the fan working Chad said the soda was perhaps a touch above room temperature. With the fan broken, it was actually heating the soda! Reviews on Amazon were very bad too, so Chad warns "stay away from this terrible piece of crap!"

*********

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
