    Episode 998

    CES Live
Dick, Leo and the TWiT crew will be at CES 2010 starting today.  Leo will be streaming the Digital Experience today, an event otherwise strictly for members of the press.  Tomorrow they will be at the Showstoppers event, and sometime Dick and Leo will be doing a Daily Giz Wiz live.  TWiTLive will be streaming its CES coverage thanks to Colleen's Mushroom Portabella.  You can follow the coverage on TWitLive, subscribe to it (video or audio) on iTunes, and also check up on twitlive.posterous.com.

A Podcast Fit for a Walk
Jan Reesman of Dogs and Cats 101 (who last wrote in Episode 865) took up marathon walk this fall and would be much grateful if Dick and Leo could make their shows average 32 minutes in length, which would help her time her 8-mile walk.  Dick and Leo would try, after Episode 1000, but then that wouldn't do for another listener Paul Newell and his corgi puppy (see Episode 908).

    Life Hardly Worth Living
Benjamin Ford of Rochester, New York, is looking forward to reaching Episode 1000.  Sometimes it seems that life would hardly be worth living if it weren't for the Daily Giz Wiz.

    IBM Commercials
Benjamin also notes that some time ago Dick and Leo talked about the IBM Selectric typewriters (e.g. back in Episode 283) and believes that they also talked about the IBM 224 Dictation UnitDuke University has posted on iTunes U archive TV commercials from the 1960's of IBM products including these products.

What interests Benjamin most is a short film (2 minutes 49 seconds) on IBM's Sage Computer System being used as part of an air-defence unit.

    Episode 996

    Episodes 1000, 1005 and 1001
Having changed from doing Episode 1000 at CES to doing Episode 1005 on a Friday, Leo is changing his mind again, and may be doing Episode 1001 on a Monday.  At the moment no one knows what's going to happen, only that there will be a live show at CES.

    Crossed Wires for La Crosse
Leo wanted to get what Dick talked about in Episode 978, the La Crosse Battery Charger with LCD Display, but went to Amazon and got the wrong gadget, the La Crosse BC-700 AlphaPower Battery Charger.

    Pumpkin Moving Closer
Dan Werner from Richmond, Virginia was brushing his teeth when he heard Dick's story of moving the pumpkin closer and closer as the party went on, and spat toothpaste all over the mirror.  Dan also ordered the Match Game Gift Set as a Christmas present for his father.

    Episode 995

The Origin of I'll Be Here
Kevin Selle of Weather Brains wonders how Dick's tag line "I'll be here" came about.  Dick explains it, but the show to listen to is Episode 99, when Dick first realised he had unwittingly created a tag line, whch he first started in Episode 4.  Leo would like a more interesting version, and makes up one - if not more interesting, certainly more involved.

    Inflation-Proof
Dick went to see the new movie Nine.  Despite inflation, the movie is still called Nine.

    Induction Cooking
About an hour before she heard Episode 935 on the Glowmaster GMI-2000, Barbara Snyder from Sebastobol ordered her own new induction cooker.  She loves it.  For more information on induction cooking, Barbara recommends theinductionsite.com.
