    Episode 1028

    Shocking Pink
Rick Lee from Charleston, West Virginia, is a commercial photographer and has for years had trouble sending photo files back and forth with his clients.  He heard about the Pogoplug in Episode 817 from those 2 goofballs and it was a great solution - which he now has to hide behind a bookshelf because you can only get it in a disgusting hot pink.  What were they thinking?

Punctuality not a Requirement, but Passion is
From time to time Leo is late for the recording of the Daily Giz Wiz.  Not a problem, says Dick grudgingly, because Dick understands Leo loves what he does and his shows often overrun.  Just like Leo’s coverage of the Showstoppers event at CES 2010, and just like his fixing Dick’s computer during the commercial break in an episode of the Screen Savers.  In the book mentioned by the listener whose life was changed by listening to the Dialy Giz Wiz and an Audible book (see Episode 1027), one of the secrets to living longer is to be passionate about something, and Dick and Leo are surely passionate about what they do.

    Episode 1027

    A Life-Changing Experience
Dick and Leo can't decide if Leo has read a letter from a listener who had a life-changing experience listening to an Audible book about living longer, after he subscribed to Audible because of the Daily Giz Wiz.  Dick doesn't think Leo read it; the chatroom think Leo did; and I agree with Dick.

    The J-Files
Eva Laporte helps Leo go through his emails, and she has made a "jerk file" of emails, one of which is from a "long-time listener" living in Japan who has been put off promoting the TWiT network to sections of the American public having to live temporarily overseas, because Leo uttered the words, "I'm no Rush Limborg."  I'm no Rush Limborg either.

    Synergy
Ken Fallon, an Irishman in Holland, has been listening since Episode 1.  In keeping with the theme of the show, he will skip all attempts at humour.  In Episode 1019, Dick and Leo discussed the Microsoft Trackball Explorer.  Ken was surprised to hear that Leo currently needs to use 5 mice to operate all his computers in the studio.  Ken has a solution for Leo, a small piece of software called Synergy which runs on Windows, OS X and Linux.  It lets you use one set of mouse and keyboard which moves the cursor to the edge of the screen on the server computer, then across to the screen of the next computer and so on.  Leo uses it on the Skypeasaurus but he can't on all his computers as some of them are on different networks.

    Episode 1026

    A Passion for Coffee
Today’s pick, the AeroPress, is a recommendation from listener Chris Vane from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada – who has finally discovered what he likes about Dick.  Dick’s charm and wit?  No.  His sense of humour?  Not even close.  It’s because they have many things in common: their inexplicable love for LED flashlights; they both save their zip disks and zip drives out of some bizzare paternal instinct to cherish and protect them; and finally they are both passionate about coffee.

    Purchase Impulses
Leo loves the idea of the Aeropress, and purchases it immediately during the show.  He also vows to buy everything Dick covers this week.  Quick-minded Dick thinks he is going to talk about his retirement plan.  Leo’s purchase impulse reminds Dick of Bill Gaines, who had an arrangement with Dick that Dick could buy, at Bill’s costs, suitable gadgets, try them out, and show them to Bill.  Bill also used to buy things in bulk. If he found a pair of shoes or pants he liked, he would get 10 of them.

    Leo’s Amanuensis
Leo recommends an amanuensis for everyone.  His is jammerb.

    TWiT Cottage Welcome Sign
Leo has put up the welcome sign outside the TWiT Cottage – which is completely adaptable by unscrewing the individual plaques – or simple Photoshopping.

    Episode 1025

    Ambilight
The idea of Sylvania's HaloLight is not dead yet.  A few years ago Philips developed the Ambilight, an extension of the same concept, which Dick talked about in Episode 228.

    Bozo Ball
For a long time, Leo thought the Bosu ball was called the Bozo ball.  Bosu stands for "both sides up").

    A Great Bargain
Gilbert Breen never thought the day would come, but it finally did in Episode 1010, when Dick talked about a warehouse gadget which Gilbert loved and used often - the LG Super Multi-Blue Player BH100.  He owned 3 of them - and got them at BestBuy at a bargain, with firmware upgrades to boot.

    Episode 1024

    Google Filter
Leo demonstrates how Google's voice recognition on the Nexus One filters out the four-letter words.

    Don’t Stop – Till 5000 ?
Jan Coppett has enjoyed Dick’s humour since the beginning of the podcast; actually much longer as she used to watch Match Game with his mother. She starts her day with the Daily Giz Wiz, and asks Dick and Leo never to stop doing the show. They won’t, until Episode 5000, maybe.
