The Giz Wiz Show 1691, September 7th 2018 Independent Show #174

The Giz Wiz Show is in it's 13th year of production, and the fourth year of Independent Production! (The first show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!)

Swiffer Continuous Clean - Does It Really Work? We test it out.

A while back we saw and reported on the The Swiffer Continuous Clean.A device designed to help keep room surfaces clean and dust-free. And why is it branded “Swiffer”? Because it uses a unique filter made of genuine Swiffer material. This material is designed to Trap + Lock™ dirt, dust and pet dander without creating a high back-pressure. It is virtually silent, and uses only 3.5 watts of electricity (less than a night light) so it costs less than 2¢ per day to operate! Filters last about 30 days depending on air quality, and cost just about $5 to replace. So instead of dusting with a Swiffer this device runs continuously 24/7 to effectively capture dust before it settles on room surfaces. But does it work? That's what we learn on this episode of the Giz Wiz. They sent me a unit so I could see for myself (and our audience) how it pulls dirt out of the air. Be sure to see the 'before' and 'after filter'. The 'after filter was in the unit for about 3 full weeks, or may a few days longer. We were impressed.

A New Feature - (for a few weeks, maybe more) The Chad Extra! (Chad does two gadgets in one show!)

Chad's Extra Gadget for this show is the Decora Smart - Smart Home Light Switch(From Levitron). Here's some info from Amazon: Works with Alexa for voice control (Alexa device sold separately). Control your home from anywhere - no hub required - simply replace your existing light switch. Schedule your lights to turn on when you want them including sunrise/sunset, easily create fun lighting scenes, or use your voice to ask Alexa or Google to turn off all lights. Control up to 20 residences, 99 smart devices, 50 rooms, 50 scenes, 50 activities, and 50 schedules per account, plus adjust fade rates, LED activity, preset brightness levels, and more. Leviton devices are truly smart – your pre-set schedules live inside each device, so your schedules always run as expected. $39.97 on Amazon.

And Chad's take: Chad liked these because they solved a problem. With all the traveling Chad is doing he wants various porch and inside lights on and off at different times of day. These switches solved that problem, although Chad said wiring them was a bit more than he thought and he sought the help of an electrician. Be sure to watch this week's show to Chad demo them and explain more about them. Chad added that he thing these might also be available at Home Depot.

Chad Crappy Corner And His New Theme For September.

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his new cheap theme for September. And the winner was “Cheap Gadgets To Get Your Stuff Organized”. Chad's 1st organizing gadget is the Flipfold plastic laundry room organizer.

Here's what Amazon says about it (including bad grammar): The flipfold laundry room organizer design takes up close to ZERO storage space. Boxlegend (brand) folds shirts and garments evenly & uniformly in just 3 seconds. Perfect for folding trousers, shorts, pajamas, T-shirts and thick clothes. Indispensable family tool for all people without any age limit: no matter a little kid unfamiliar with clothes manually folding or an old man unable to use hands flexibly, will incredibly realize clothes folding so interesting and easily. $9.99

And Chad's take? Chad liked this a lot. It sure looks like an easy to fold shirts and end up with a neat stack of clothes that can then be easily stored in a drawer or on a shelf. Be sure to watch Chad's demo on this week show. It was a 'buy' opinion from Chad.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

This week's viewer video is a second one via Linda from Long Island and it arrived with this email:

Hi Dick and Chad,

I saw on the most recent GizWiz that you needed some videos for the next couple of weeks. I have two that you might be interested in.

The first is an old piece of tech that I ran across recently while cleaning out an old storage area.

 Link: https://youtu.be/XSfmeaFtPOw

I hope this helps out with your crazy recording schedule the next few weeks.

And thanks for the show. Linda Norman (Linda from Long Island)

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

-

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
