The Giz Wiz Show 1693, September 21st 2018 Independent Show #176

The Giz Wiz Show is in it's 13th year of production, and the fourth year of Independent Production! (The first show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!)

Big Digit Alarm Clock with a lot of choices when you set it.

When I saw “Large 9” LED display alarm clock” I thought the digits would be huge. But after I bought the clock I was a bit disappointed. Each digit is 3” high, certainly bigger than most clocks in the home. So they do make checking the time easy. I realize now the 'large 9” display” means measuring it diagonally, the way they measure TV's. You set the time, alarms, snooze, etc. with UP and DOWN arrows near the top of the clock. The back of the clock features two USB 5V 1A charging ports for charging small devices like smartphones. A dimmer setting can be adjusted for the brightness you prefer for sleep. Dual alarms mean you can set two separate wake-up times. A snooze button on the top allows you to have 5-60 minutes (you set that too) more to stay in bed before the alarm sounds again. All functions work under AC power, the backup battery (included) is for a memory function to back up time and alarm settings in case of AC power failure. There will be no display digits on the clock if the power goes out. But when the power comes back it will remember all your settings.

From time to time Chad does an 'extra gadget' in the show, especially when we record ahead of schedule.

Chad's Extra Gadget for this show is the Nifty Home Products Countertop Appliance Rolling Tray in Black.

Need we say it? Toaster not included!Chad found this gadgets at Bed Bath & Beyond. It's the Nifty Home Products Countertop Appliance Rolling Tray. It's designed to let you easily slide around small kitchen appliances on counters. As Chad pointed out sometimes he needs to move a small kitchen appliance out from under a counter to use it, like his blender that opens at the top. This device lets you move small kitchen gadgets (under to 25 pounds) without scratching counter top surfaces. Chad showed us in the video how you move it by merely pressing the lever on the front of the tray. He also liked the non-slip pad that helps keep small appliances in place as they move. It was $14.99, but it's easy to find “20% off one item” BB&B coupons online.

Sprinkle, sparkle, sip... Do it by putting 'dust' in your drink.

That's how SPIRDUST, describes their product. They say you can use SPIRDUST® in mixed cocktails, iced cocktails, or plain shots! For single servings Add SPIRDUST® directly to your drink by sprinkling a few pinches in your cocktail, beer, wine or spirits glass and stir. For larger quantities simply add between 0.1g and 0.7g of SPIRDUST® per liter of liquid such as cocktail mixes, spirits, juices or liqueurs that you use to create your alcoholic beverages. --- We saw this at a press event and asked about safety. Spirdust said all colors sold meet the standards of the US FDA and Health Canada. It does not change the taste of your drink. All Spirdust products are nut free, gluten free, lactose free, and vegan. Individual colors are $5.50 each, 4 for $19.99, or 6 colors with martini shaker for $33.99. (Prices as of 9/21/18). The company says each1.5g jar can make shimmer for approximately 45 drinks. As you'll see in this show, we didn't get anywhere near the results the company did. You'll see both of their videos and our video in this week's show.

Chad's Crappy Corner & Another Gadget For His September Theme!

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his new cheap theme for September. And the winner was “Cheap Gadgets To Get Your Stuff Organized”. Chad's 3rd organizing gadget is the Miniature File Cabinet for Business Cards with Built-in Digital Clock.

Here's what Amazon says about it: This miniature file cabinet provides perfect storage for 800 business cards. Made of sturdy plastic, Color: Metallic Silver. Top drawer has a built-in digital clock with date. A-Z card index included. Dimensions: 6.5" x 4.5" x 6.5". .

And Chad's take? Chad thought this was a great way to store business cards. It is all plastic and it does have a little clock built-in and as Chad pointed out, there isn't much more to say about it. Although Chad thought it could be priced a bit lower. (I agree on both points.) But if you get a lot of business cards and need a cute and convenient place to put them, this might just fill the bill. (Seems like it's available in brown plastic too.)

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

This was actually part of Jason's email from last week where he sent us the 'gadget warehouse' video of his dog Bosco playing with the K9 Mini Dog Launcher. I wanted to use this part of the email on this week's show so Chad could talk more about these magnetic cables.

From Jason's email: Chad's crappy corner has actually saved me money. Because of the magnetic cables that he mentioned over a year ago, between the grandchildren and Bosco things have been disconnected instead of yanked off the table or other furniture. Possibly breaking it. Jason Peddicord

From the Giz Wiz: Here's where you start searching for magnetic cables. They've made for some Android products and some Apple products. Chad pointed out many of them are for charging only, so if you need 'charge and sync' be sure to check the copy to make sure they fit your needs.
