There were a ton of “Ways to cook outdoors” at the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas. For this week's show I picked three of them -- from under $10 to several thousand dollars. Let's start at the low end with Burnie's All Wood Self-Burning Grill.

Here's how the company describes the Burnie All-Wood Self-Burning Grill. It's 100% All Natural Alder Wood, Zero Chemicals. When you're done, the Burnie burns itself out. No waste. No cleanup. And it's great for the environment. It is available in two sizes: Large and Medium. The Large dimensions are 12" wide x 5" tall and the Medium dimensions are 9" wide x 5" tall. Because all Burnie's are made from All Natural Alder wood the dimensions above are approximate and each can vary in width. To use, simply place your Burnie in any charcoal grill, fire pit or designated burning area and light the center fire starter. (I watched a spokesperson light one with a single match as the center wood chip is soaked in a fire starter fluid.) In about 20 minutes Burnie is ready to be either cooked directly on or used with a grill grate. You cane expect an 1.5 hour cook time for the Medium Burnie and 2.5 hour cook time on the Large Burnie. At the show they said the medium size is under $10 and the large size is under $13.

The most high-end backyard BBQ I saw at the National Hardware Show.

The most expensive backyard grill I saw at the show was the Napoleon 665. Walking down the aisle I was just drawn to it by the glowing 'tech blue' control knobs. There were quite a few other people eyeing it too. Since this model was indoors it wasn't being demostrated. But I did get quite a bit of info on it. As you read, get a price in your head. I'll tall what it is at the end here. “The new Prestige PRO Series PRO665RSIB Gas Grill comes with 8 burners in total, and can grill up to 42 4” hamburgers at once. In addition to burgers, you can grill gourmet meals on the 9.5 - millimeter, stainless steel Wave cooking grids. While you’re busy grilling up the perfect steak, or slow grilling the perfect roast, you can cook amazing side dishes on the ceramic infrared side burner. Not just for quickly searing the perfect steak, the ceramic brick heats to 1,800°F in just over 30 seconds and can be used to make sauces, boil water, and even sauté. And Chad's take?

Chad liked this product as you'll see and hear in this week's video. He said the color effects would most likely be more pronounced in a wood fireplace. He felt his gas fired fireplace added too many colors of their own. He also thought they were reasonably priced - or in Chad's words “now crazy expensive” at 12 packets for about $8.00. Even though the company says you should buy up to 3 packs at a time Chad liked them. Be aware though you shouldn't cook over a fire while Mystical Fire Campfire Colorant is being used.
