The Giz Wiz Show 1666, March 16th 2017 Independent Show #149

The Giz Wiz Show just started it's13th year! The first show was February 20th, 2006. And soon (May 2018) we'll be entering our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/ . You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make more money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

This week we do something a bit different. The Giz Wiz tries out two gadgets we only saw at the 2018 Housewares Preview. Do they work as advertised. Watch this episode and find out.

Remember the waffle iron that bakes them at an angle? Does the batter leak out. The Giz Wiz puts the Kalorik Easy Pour Waffle Maker to the test. Actually, this is very easy to use. Simply use the included measuring cup to pour batter into the spout of the closed waffle maker that sits at a 45 degree angle. It looks like that would be a disaster, but a rugged gasket holds the batter firmly in place and the angle makes it possible to distribute the batter evenly. Indicator lights plus five browning levels for custom cooked waffles 7" in diameter about an 1" thick.

Here's the Giz Wiz with a company spokesperson to point out all the other features - there also info about their new air fryer: https://youtu.be/g2N8tA8k89o

The Easy Pour is not on Amazon yet, but other Kalorik waffle makers are there starting at $25.00

Like coffee with less acidity?

For coffee with less acidity you might want to know about the Asobu Coldbrew Portable Cold Brew Coffee Maker. Here's what the company says about cold brew: “Using hot water on your coffee granules creates a more acidic bitter drink while using cold water with coffee and allowing it to steep as with the Asobu cold brew creates 80% lower acidity, smoother, naturally sweet taste and also gives it that extra punch of caffeine. Now I had a company spokesperson explain this gadget a month or so ago, but now I had the chance to use one. Making cold brew coffee is easy, but once you mix the coffee and water, you have to wait 12-24 hours for it to be ready to drink. You'll see the whole process in my video in this show, or at the link below. The company adds: The Asobu Brewer hold 6 servings so you can leave in the fridge for up to 2 weeks and still get that same great rich and fresh concentrate. It's available in copper, silver, black and white. $50.00

Need an extra set of hands in the kitchen? Meet the Baggy Rack.

If you're tired of spilling food all over your counter and on the floor when you try to transfer food to a baggie, this gadget will give you a hand! Filling up a storage bag has never been this easy, especially when you’re all by yourself. The Baggy Rack holds any plastic storage bag open while you fill it up! (Well probably up to the gallon size.) It has a non-slip rubber base to holds bags tightly without slipping. It's super easy to use. Just adjust the collapsible arms for desired height, slide each side of the bag under the grippers and fill it. It got 4.4 out of 5 stars on Amazon from over 1300 customer reviews. A set of 3 was $12.96 and Amazon Prime on 3/15/18. One unit was $7.99, so buying 3 was a big saving. That's what I bought. Amazon prices can change at any time. They're Amazon Prime, so free shipping for Amazon members.

Chad's Crappy Corner & Another Gadget For His March Theme!

Our loyal Patreon's picked "Inexpensive Garden Gadgets for Chad's March theme and this week Chad finds a 3-in-1 Soil Test Kit!

Here's what Amazon says about it: Discover The Great Secret Of Gardening; Healthy Soil! 3-in-1 Soil Test Kit For Moisture, Light & pH. Yes, you read right. The secret to growing your own plants, flowers, vegetables or lawn is simple; you need to make sure that your soil is properly lighted, moisturized and has the right pH levels! And how can you tell all that? Why, by using our exquisite quality, 3-in-1 soil test kit, which was exclusively designed for gardening! This powerful, albeit small piece of equipment will tell you everything you need to know. If your soil is dry and you need to water it, if the lighting is right or you need to adjust it and, of course, if your soil’s pH levels are where they should be or you have to amend them! $11.99.

Chad pointed out that there's no brand name on the device and as you'll see, it's on Amazon many, many times, sometimes with various names.

And Chad's take? Chad liked this and you'll see in the video that he tried all 3 functions. At first he thought the light test didn't work properly, but when he took the plant outside the needle moved to 100. It also indicated the pH level of his mint plant was really low, but not what to do about it. And although it did list a fair amount of plants, it didn't list any of the ones Chad owns, like mint. Chad thought this was a decent buy for about $12.00, but wished you didn't have to do each test separately with the 3-way button. But, as he put it, this not one of the crappiest gadgets I bought.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Our video of the week comes from a long time viewer who really owns a lot of old iPod MP3 players! Here's his email:

Hi Dick & Chad,

Ran across some of my collection of MP3 players the other day and thought I would share with a short video.

Have been listening since episode 1! Now my wife and daughter watch it with me every Sunday morning during breakfast.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Dick and Chad,

On the last Giz Wiz show you were talking about the one drawback of Chad's gadget, the Little Big Shot.  It appeared that you could not fully turn off the flow of water and didn't want to go back to the spigot to shut it off.  What you need is a ball valve hose attachment like this:

Keep up the dunb work! Tim, AKA Lothar

Giz Wiz says: I have used a similar one for a number of years and it works great.
