The Giz Wiz Show 1667, March 23rd 2017 Independent Show #150

The Giz Wiz Show just started it's13th year! The first show was February 20th, 2006. And soon (May 2018) we'll be entering our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv . You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make more money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

This week it's two more kitchen gadgets. One works great, the other, well you'll see for yourself! It's the first gadget on the show.

Have you seen the "As seen on TV: EZ Cracker"?

Here's what Amazon says about it: EZ Cracker egg cracker and separator is the perfect way to cook with eggs at just the touch of a button. The simple design allows you to crack open eggs without any mess or bits of shell in your food. Special included FREE BONUS attachment makes separating egg yolks and whites just as easy. Strip shells from hard boiled eggs in seconds. No more spills. Plastic. $14.95.

And The Giz Wiz says: OMG, we ruined four eggs trying to get this thing to work. It made a mess both on uncooked eggs and on a hard-boiled egg. Watch the video to judge for yourself. It got 3.5 stars out of 5 from over 500 people on Amazon, so it seems to work fine for some people. Others thought it was junk, as did we.

A New Way To Cook, With "Fins".

First, here's some info from the company: Constructed of heavy-duty 304-grade stainless steel, the Turbo Pot cookware line by Eneron, Inc. is engineered to outperform the standard pot by a wide margin— significantly improving the heat transfer of open-flame range cooking. Turbo Pot heats up between 35 and 50 percent faster than regular cookware, allowing home chefs to save time and energy, and improve indoor air quality. Turbo Pot’s sleek, intelligent design incorporates patented, highly conductive heat exchanger “fins” at the base of the cookware to dramatically improve heat transfer and optimize fuel efficiency. In fact, utility companies such as Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas Co.) and Nicor Gas offer rebates for commercial kitchens to use Turbo Pot products (a unique first for cookware) because of their proven energy- saving capability.

And from the Giz Wiz: These pots certainly have a great look and feel, and as you'll see in our video even though our test was very basic, I'm convinced myself that those heat exchanger-fins on the bottom of the pot do speed up cooking time. This cooking advantage is for gas cooktops only and not for electric or induction cooktops.

Another LED Light, But A Very Different One!

Meet the Polychrome Light. Here's a relatively inexpensive way to add some color to your room with this one of a kind Polychrome Light. It's an innovative light bulb design with a colorful LED lighting display. You have to watch the video to see it in action, but it's made from transparent light bulb shaped plastic fins on a chrome base. Then phasing LEDs create intersecting color shadows on walls and surfaces. Pressing down on the light turns it on and starts the phasing display. You press it a second time to stop on any particular color combo. A third press turns it off. It stands a tad shorter than 9" and is dual powered by battery or USB. It comes complete with a micro USB cable, or can be alternatively powered by using 3 AAA batteries, not AA as I said in the video. (AAA batteries not included.) According to the instructions, when you power it via USB, it disconnects the internal batteries. I hope so, because I mainly use it on USB, with power provided by one of the those little AC to USB plugs you probably have lying around too.

Chad's Crappy Corner & Another Gadget For His March Theme!

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his theme for March. They picked “Inexpensive Garden Gadgets”.

Chad's 4th gadget of the month bears the Amazon long-winded name: AMAGABELI GARDEN & HOME Glow in the Dark Pebbles for walkways, Décor Glow Stones rocks for garden outdoor, Decorative Luminous Pebbles Gravel, Fairy Garden Pathway Walkway, Fish Tank Aquarium (These are) Blue Decorative glow stones measuring 0.8"-1.2"/ 2-3 cm. - 100 pieces per package. Pebble lighting that requires no electricity and no power. This glow stones pebbles gravel stones are durable and weather resistant. They absorb sunlight during the day and give off light throughout the night. Intensity is strongest 2 - 3 hours at night after a full day in the sun and light soft light rest of night.

And Chad's take:Chad liked them, although they don't glow quite bright as seen on the Amazon page. But as Chad shows in his video, the darker the space, the more you'll be able to see the Glow Stones actually glow. Chad also pointed out that if you look closely you can see some of the seams on the stones. They're made of resin, and use no power except for the exposure to sunlight, or even artificial light. I believe the glow effect is shorter with artificial light. Watch this week's show for Chad's “in use” test, both indoors and out. All in all, Chad thought they were pretty good for the price. $10.99 (100 stones) and they're Amazon Prime.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Our viewer video this week arrived from:

Bruce Hill

Subject: Watch "Casio G-shock watch" on YouTube

https://youtu.be/AEJTApHkPlQ

I forgot to mention that both watches have the original batteries.

Amazon lists at least 10 different solar G-shock Casio watches, including some that support Bluetooth (I think they just vibrate with notification).

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Hi Dick & Chad, since you were both interested in last week's preshow about version 2 of the Flow Hive, here's the announcement last week at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/flow-hive-2-innovation#/ on the third birthday of their first version (of which they've already sold over 50,000 worldwide). Instead of me trying to describe specifically how it works in words you can play b-roll from the Tech Insider on mute (it's already captioned) while reading this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYgJB2DCP7I - they're offering 30% off for the duration of the IndieGoGo campaign, down from $999 to $699 for the complete hive.

The point of this invention is that no extra tools are needed for harvesting the honey, which can get expensive when you have to build an entire bee-proof shed for the messy extraction process. Also unlike traditional harvesting which has no option but to open the hive and disturb the bees, the bees can peacefully continue to work at the front entrance while you're harvesting honey from the back of the Flow Hive, so much less chance of angering them and being stung.

The creators of the Flow Hive really want new beekeepers to join local beekeeping groups and find a mentor to help get started. Hives can fail so all the work other than harvesting still needs to go into them year round, and the warmer your climate the more success you'll have harvesting honey.

Here's one more video from beekeeping educators talking about the Flow Hive 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRqE_v58Sd4&t=31s

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Ky.
