The Giz Wiz Show 1664, March 2nd 2017 Independent Show #147

The Giz Wiz Show just celebrated it's 12th anniversary and starts it's 13th year with this show! The first show was February 20th, 2006. And soon we'll be entering our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/ . You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make more money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

This week we continue with gadgets and games from one of the most fun events of the year, Toy Fair! It takes place at the Javits Center in NYC. Let's start with a bit of learning, but learning in a fun way.

Meet The Upcoming Engineering Makerspace Kits

Construct ten out-of-this-world machines and learn about the physics of levers and linkages. A battery-powered motor box powers the models. Make a creepy slithering alien snake-bot model with rotating arms and articulating tail. Build an alien insectoid-bot that crawls on six legs. Create an alien raptor model with wings that move up and down. Assemble a cool grabber claw with a scissors mechanism. There are other models kids can make too. A 28-page manual guides your model building and experiments with step-by-step illustrated instructions. Other kits in the line will be Off-Road Rovers and Geared-Up Gadgets. Available Fall 2018 MSRP $29.95 for each of the three kits.

Pepper Mint in the Fantastic Underwater Science Voyage

In this story-based STEM kit, Pepper Mint accompanies an expedition to the Bermuda Triangle. Soon she discovers that the ocean water there behaves in strange and unexpected ways. When the onboard systems of the research vessel fail, Pepper Mint figures out how to use water to make simple hydraulic machines and conduct experiments with pressure and density. The accompanying story takes the characters from experiment to experiment and shows them how to power small machines with the help of water. Pepper Mint constructs a rig to raise and lower the ship’s flag and a series of hydraulic devices including a ship’s crane. The experiments teach lessons in mechanical physics, electric circuits, and physical science principles related to water and air. The kit includes materials to build the boat and do the projects, a full-color illustrated storybook and step-by-step instruction manual, as well as a scale Pepper Mint figurine. Coming Fall 2018 MSRP $39.95 for each of the two kits.

A Silly, But Fun Toy Of The Year Winner + A New Silly Toy Coming.

Soggy Doggy won as Toy Of the Year in the "game" category. And this cute game is available now!

Soggy Doggy is the showering, shaking, doggy bathing game for kids and the whole family. Players roll the die and move their playing pieces around the game board, taking turns washing Soggy Doggy. But watch out! You never know when he will shake to dry off... and you’ll get a little wet! First one around the board and back to the doggy basket wins.

Meet the Silly Sausage!

Listed in the 2018 Spinmaster catalog is another toy I got to play with for a few minutes at Toy Fair. It's really silly, but you don't get wet. It's called Silly Sausage. This is billed as an interactive toy that packs tons of fun into one big hot dog! The object is to see if you can follow his commands and "twist", "shake", "poke", "stretch" and "dip" the Silly Sausage as he goes faster and faster! For even more of a challenge, set Silly Sausage to turbo mode and go at warp speed! With up to 10 games included, you can play solo or party with the entire family! The one with the fastest reflexes, co-ordination and memory skills is the wiener! Can you handle the super-speedy sausage reaction game? Strangely the Spinmaster press book says available Fall 2018, but I already see on the Toyrus website. It's under $20.00 I also checked Amazon. It was way more $$ there as of 3/2/18.

Perry The Inventor's Latest Creation: DIYAmite Balloon Warrior

Perry Teri, the inventor of this game said it solves the problem of who really won when you play dueling games. He says there's no more arguing over who won with Balloon Warriors. It's a new DIY-Kit that teaches kids basic electronics, mechanics, and battle strategy while they build a fun toy. The kit builds in 10-15 minutes but the battles and play can last for hours. The winner hits the target on their opponent’s sensor and the loser’s balloon-sword pops instantly (You'll see the secret as to what actually makes the balloon pop in the video on this show.) Perry Teri Toys has been featured on ABC’s The Toy Box and Good Morning America’s Shark Tank Your Life. He has several successful toys already in the marketplace and has done it again with this new battle toy that allows both kids and adults to unleash their inner hero. You can reserve yours now. Kits ship in Summer 2018. A single kit will be about $25 and a double kit about $50. In addition to the kit(s), it includes up to 50 balloons and a pump to blow them up.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For March 2018.

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his theme for March. They picked “Inexpensive Garden Gadgets”. Chad's first garden gadgets is the Ups A Daisy plant elevation platform. These clever devices are specially designed to help reduce the amount of potting soil required to fill large pots. Insert sets inside your planter approximately halfway to 2/3 of the way down into your container. The insert elevates your flowers and plants out of potential excess water that gathers at the base of planters. This is a great solution for preventing root rot and mold issues and allows for essential oxygen to access plant roots. There are many size options: Round or square shape in sizes 10" up to 18". Chad boughtw his at Home Depot, but they're also available on Amazon. Prices range from about $6 to $16.00.

And Chad's take: Chad (and me too) like these a lot. Not only do they reduce the amout of soil you'll need to re-pot a plant, but they'll also cut the weight since you're using less heavy soil. That's great for hanging plants, or just for moving plants around. Watch this week's show to see how easy it was for Chad to install and use his 11” Ups A Daisy platform. Chad paid about $8 for it at his local Home Depot. It's also available on Amazon.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

On a recent Giz Wiz Show I talked about one of those AC/DC multi-voltage adaptors I bought on Amazon.

Well, it turns out Marsworm, a frequent visitor in our chatroom had a very old version of an RCA AC/DC adaptor. He bought his at Radio Shack a long time ago.

Here's his email and link to his video:

Hi, this is marsworm, here is a older version of my Universal power adapter,

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
