Wow! The Giz Wiz Show is in year 13 overall & our 5th year of Independent Production! (1st Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/.  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

June is CE Week at the Javits Center in NYC, a chance to see some new gadgets and to review some gadgets we saw at CES in January that are now becoming available. We'll look at 3 this week.

MOTOROLA introduces the  SMART SAFE. (Well, it's from an official licensee of Motorola.) There are two models coming in August. The Flex Smart Safe takes only a few seconds to install using patented expandable wings for a no-tool installation. The Flex (and the Bolt) provides 24/7 real-time security intelligence. With Wifi connectivity and real-time alerts sent to your smartphone, you can help keep an eye your smart safe from anywhere. If you prefer not to use a smartphone or cannot connect the safe to the internet, the Smart Safes both have audible and visual alerts that can be seen and heard directly from this unit. You can also remotely open the safe door from anywhere, or have customer service open it up for you if you misplaced your back up keys and forgot your code. Download the Motorola Smart Safe app on the Apple Store or Google Play for instant alerts and reminders. Two models. The BOLT, bolts to the wall thru the predrilled holes in the back of the safe, and the FLEX is held in place with the extending arms which lock in place. Each has a MSRP of $129.00. Both are expected to be available some time in August 2019.

Have boxes full of old slides, negatives, even 110 or Super 8 film? Digitize them!

Kodak (actually C+A, a Kodak official licensee) showed three film scanners at the show. Models range from about $45 for the Kodak Mobile Scanner  if you just have a limited amount of old film formats you want to digitize, up to about $179 for the Kodak Scanza. Here's info mostly from the company: All three of these devices let you convert film to JPEG's. The 14 to 22MP KODAK Film Scanza Scanner converts old 35mm, 126, 110, Super 8 & 8mm Negatives & Slides to JPEG Digital Files. It has a 3.5” TFT LCD – HD color display with adjustable brightness & convenient tilt for for easy image viewing. The unit ships with w/multiple film inserts & adapters for flexible operation. One-Touch buttons for one-step scan & save. Helpful tray & insert directory; easily edit Image RGB & resolution, browse gallery [SD Card NOT included, supports up to 128GB). Mac & PC Compatible Converter Comes w/USB Power Cable, HDMI Cable, AC Adapter, Video Cable & Film Cleaning Brush. Use the included brush to also clean the light box of dust and speckles, to avoid marks on the scanned images. Prices for this, their most expensive and full-featured scanner  are all over the place, with the lowest I found at about $160.00. The Kodak Mobile Scanner, which looks like it's made of heavy duty cardboard, but features a lighted platform was about $40. All prices as of 6/29/30.

3Doodler -- Now can really "doodle" on your phone or smart pad!

Yes, there's an app for that. For the first time in their six-year history, 3Doodler is going mobile. The 3Doodler App, launched earlier in 2019, featured 10+ tutorials and projects. 3Doodler said there will be weekly additions. The App is designed to help kids and adults successfully construct their own 3D projects at home. Right on the screen of the device you used to download the app you'll find stencils, tutorials and step-by-step instructions in a mobile friendly format. The company says their seamless UX experience will make the app ideal for any device, including iPads and tablets. Use your device as a canvas, but remember  usage and safety instructions apply! I asked about using an overlay on tablets and phones. Cofounder Max Bogue said with the low-heat pen you can draw directly on your device, but probably for the Pro model Doodler, a clear screen between it and your pen would probably be best. Watch this week's show to see some of the other 3D object people can create. 3Doodler pens range from $49 to $79.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Second Gadget For His New June Theme!

Chad's June Gadget Theme is “Cheap Funny & Silly Gadgets” and his second pick is The Tin Prank Box.
Here's what Amazon says about it: Calling all mischief makers and pranksters. This is the tin you've all been waiting for. It contains six of the most classic and well known pranks ever created. The whoopee cushion, hand buzzer, fingers cuffs, squirt ring, funny glasses, plus funny glasses & 'stache… this tin contains them all! There will be endless laughter, bewilderment and smiles when this tin is around. It's ideal for anybody aged 8 and above!

And Chad's take? Chad liked the tin box and the fact that it is only $8.99 at his local hobby store. (It was $10.98 6/15/19 on Amazon.) He thought the pranks were okay, especially the 'nail through the finger' which does look great on camera as you'll see in this week's show. He wasn't knocked out with the selection, but thought the pranks would be a bigger hit for young kids who had never seem them. So, I guess 'almost, but not quite crappy'.

Our email and viewer video this week is from a fan submitting his first video. Stephen Glad

Hi Dick & Chad,

Here is a gadget that makes my life a lot easier -

In the past I bought this for more money, but in my opinion it is well worth the price. The quality with this model is top notch.

********************************
We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
