The Giz Wiz Show 1706, December 21st 2018 Independent Show #189

The Giz Wiz Show soon starts it's 14th year of production, and the fifth year of Independent Production! (The very first show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!)

Three last minute gift gadgets “as seen on TV”, but you can buy at your local drugstore.

While we were at CVS looking at “as seen on TV” gadgets they had Dennis Wunderlin who helps find gadgets for the show (and shoots all our videos) suggested I buy a gadget designed mainly for women. So I bought the EZ Makeup glasses. These, the company says, are specially designed makeup glasses to magnify for perfect makeup application. They have built-in LED to provide light to see every detail. A rotating lens allows you to easily switch eyes. Provides 3x magnification! I paid $14.99 for them. The first set had one LED light that didn't worked. I exchanged for a second set and the rotating lens broke off. Watch the video to see how poorly these glasses are - at least to my eyes!

Something like them on Amazon, cheaper, but no LED lights.

Is that a mouse in your pocket, or --- (you know the rest, right?)

Pocket Mouse the brags that it's a wireless optical mouse you hold like a pen with enhanced optical technology. Really? Optical mouse technology is way older than your current (most likely) laser mouse. This optical mouse does let you work on any surface. Or at least on all the surfaces I tried. The pen design is fatter than most pens I've used and feels really cheap. (It's mostly plastic.) Even though the company says you can use it effortlessly and accurately write, click swipe and scroll, I thought the performance was on the clunky side. And the "Just flip it over and it doubles as a stylus" isn't so amazing because a stylus is really cheap. It is small enough to fit in your pocket! But comfortable enough, I don't think so. There's no extra software required and that was true. I just plugged the USB 2.4 dongle and it loaded its own software. It said to be compatible with desktops, laptops and USB-enabled tablets, and works from up to 30 feet away. Reviews are so-so, and most agree a computer mouse is much easier to use. However, If you where on an airplane and wanted to use this as a mouse on the tiny snack tray, maybe it would be good for that. But I'm sticking with my mouse. Requires 1 AAA battery not included.

Beware, just a little bit, of the rather mild Robotosaurus.

I found the ROBOTOSAURUS MINI REMOTE CONTROLLED ROBOTIC DINOSAUR at CVS. It might be a good toy for a very young child because even though it looks great, it doesn't do much. He's very simple to use via a handy infrared remote control that's in the box. But the Robotosaurus seems only to be able to roll forward, spin in a circle and then forward foward in whatever direction he is now facing. So kids may tire of him rather quickly. He does have wheels and the manufacturer says he'll roll easily on most flat surfaces - tiles, flat carpet and floorboards - and he's compact size means he can fit under things like tables, chairs, and other furniture! The packaging is impressive which is one of the reasons why I bought it. The remote control has a battery, but you'll need to supply your own 2 AA batteries for the Robotosaurus. My packaging didn't mention Sharper Image but the photos on line looks exactly like the same dino they sold for $39.95. It was under $10 at Walmart, but it's not available online. It's like $26 on Amazon, but I paid $12.99 at CVS, so perhaps your local large chain drugstore is a place to look.

That video of the Robotosaurus in action is via a review from a fellow YouTube Creator. Her complete video review is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-ZrcQ2gb1M

Walmart (not available online) Under $10 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sharper-Image-Robotosaur-Mini/107519995 It might be available at your local Walmart Store.

Chad's Third Gadget For His December Crappy Corner Theme.

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his 'cheap gadget theme' for December. The winner was Cheap Holiday Gadgets.

Chad's second Cheap Holiday Gadget is the Climbing Santa Claus Christmas Ornament. Here's some info from Amazon: Hang Santa up anywhere in your home and experience the full feeling of Christmas! Switch Santa on and watch him climb up and down the 3.5 feet beaded chain with his gifts in his bag. Perfect gift for the Christmas spirit! Approximately 9 inches tall. Requires 2 AA batteries, not included. For ages 3+. About $17.00

And Chad's take? Chad liked this and others in chatroom, including me thought it was clever and cute. It actually does climb up and the chain, so be sure to watch this week's video as Chad's demonstrates. We all thought the barebones music might get on person's nerves, but probably at a family get together it won't be notice that music. It's $16.99 on Amazon, but I don't know if you'll be able to get in time for Christmas.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Our email this week is from Doug Johnson who says: "This Gadget hits most of your marks; LEDs, trains, Christmas, and big! Here's Doug's email:

Above, those are two full-size railroad box cars with LED lighting!Hi Dick and Chad, I was a train dispatcher for 20 years and never got to see this train. I did talk to everyone aboard every year, and was responsible for the safe passage of the train and for coordinating all of the police and safety efforts when the train would stop for shows. This train makes stops along the Canadian Pacific tracks throughout Canada and the United States raising money and food for local food shelves. They put on a 20 to 30 minute show using up and coming entertainers who travel in the cars on the rear of the train. The car will th the two Christmas trees and the big sheet metal panel houses the stage and the sound system. The panel folds down into a full sized stage. I retired two years ago just before I took this video. This was the first time I had ever seen the train moving. I hope you enjoy this hastily put together video (all done on my iPhone using the clips app in about 10 minutes)

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

From: ED Subject: Bluetooth  (Ed is referring to the show where I wondered if a phone could ever pair to two Bluetooth devices at the same time since I had purchased two separate earbuds from the same company.)

Hi Dick, I am watching GizWiz #1703 when you showed the Earbuds. Well I have a Samsung Note 8 and it has it built in that you can use two different Bluetooth devices at the same time. I just wanted to let you know that this is already out. I love the show and have a great day. Love you guy's and keep up the great work your doing also.

Sent from my Samsung Note 8. Thanks Ed from South Philly.
