Giz Wiz Show 1744 September 12, 2019 Independent Show #226

Wow! The Giz Wiz Show is in year 13 overall & our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including  travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/.  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

We start this week's show with WingLights 360 Mag ideal safey add-on for bike or e-scooter.

WingLights 360 Mag is a very cleverly designed new gadget that can be mounted in the ends of the handlebars of bikes and e-scooters. It it provides a dual safety function using LED lights. In the “light mode” there's a bright white LED facing front with a bright red LED facing back so cars, trucks, other bikers can see your position on the road from all angles. A 360 lens is designed to make the lights highly visible, especially at night. But wait, there's more!! Tap on either the right or left light and it adds a yellow flashing LED directional signal so drivers know which way you're going to turn. You can tap it again to go off, or let it turn off automatically after about 45 seconds. Both lights are USB rechargeable & magnetically detachable to avoid being stolen when bike is left outdoors. They come with a clever magnetic carrier with carabiner so you can hook it to belt or backpack when you're away from the bike. The company says Mag Lights have 48 Lumens via 4 Bright Power Efficient Orange LEDs Lights per Indicator with addition of 10 lumens Red and 10 lumens White LEDs Lights per Indicator. $79.99. There's also a version without the red & white lights for $49.99. There is also a non magnetic version for $24.95 at the company website. http://www.cycl.bike/

We've talked a lot about Foldi-Mate, but now for 1st time we talk about The Shirt Butler.

When I saw “Hot air tension technology”, I had to know more! And here's the “more” from company selling The Shirt Butler.

Hot air tension technology heats and smooths your garments The Shirt Butler is designed to dry and iron your shirts (all kinds) straight from the washing machine, without the need for tumble drying, ironing or steaming. Just place the damp clothes over the inflatable bag, like you would put it on a hanger, and add a few weight clips, then turn it on. The hot air circulates around the bag using a built-in fan, which inflates the bag and fills your shirt, tee shirt, blouse, sweater or even suit jacket. You don't have to read any more, just watch their video and make up your own mind if you want to buy one for about $130!

A Shockingly Fun Gadget!

It's the High Voltage Junction Box with Led-Illuminated Jumping Frayed Live Wires and Sizzling Sound Effects. An Electrifying Prop to Complete You Spooky Halloween Party Decoration. This is great looking prank box with hanging wires and cables is 28" high. It features authentic, sizzling sound effects, "sparking" LED illumination with jumping frayed live wires and even a junction box door that slams open and closed a bit when you activate the switch! It runs on 3AA batteries which were included. But there was also a note that they were 'try the device' batteries and should be replaced when you start using your High Voltage Junction Box. There are two ways to activate it. One is with a push button that hangs out of the back of the box, and the other way is with the ON/OFF lever on the box itself. That's the more impressive way to scare the unsuspected! I bought mine on eBay for about $24.00, but strangely it came from Home Depot. You can find it at Home Depot for $19.99. Last year around Halloween they were in short supply and I the cheapest one I saw on eBay was almost $65. So shop early if you want one for as little as $20. It's for indoor use only.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Second Gadget For His New September Theme!

And Chad's second Emergencies Gadget is actually three gadgets! For about $11 Chad shows us what an emergency blanket can do, and explain that it's a one time use thing because you'll never be able to fold it back up! Chad paid $3.87 for that. Then there's a multi-function whistle which cost $3.97. And finally storm-proof matches that stay lit even after you dunk them underwater! They were only $2.97. So all three under $11.00. He didn't mention shipping, but it's possible that will add a bit to the cost. Be sure to watch this weeks show to see that! Here are the 3 cheap safety gadgets Chad demonstrates:

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video On Any Gadget!

Another video submission from Giz Wiz Fan Jim Manley. It arrived with this email:

Hey Dick and Chad,

Here's a video of my vintage Coleco Pac Man game.  I can't remember what year we got this, but it was bought new for my sister more than 30 years ago.  Everyone in the family enjoyed playing it.

Thanks,

Jim Manley

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week...   From our friend Mark at Google no less!!

From: Mark Renne
Subject: Chromebook Keyboard

Hi Dick:

How are you? (A Chromebook question and you didn't ask me, I'm a little hurt.)

In Episode #1742, you wondered where the delete key was on the keyboard.

Much like the standard Apple keyboard the backspace key acts as delete backward.  Delete forward is Alt + Backspace.

To Chad's question of Caps Lock, that I Search  + Alt. (I think we all spend more time searching than yelling.)

Wait a minute ... I can't remember all the shortcuts ... just Press Ctrl + Alt + / (forward slash)

And if you like the old school listing, it's https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/183101?hl=en

For fun, try ...Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Refresh. (Refresh is at the top row like an arrow chasing it's tail or F2.)

Lastly, something no one notices ... all the keys are labeled with lowercase. The only keyboard to show you what you get when you type, not the uppercase as shown on most keyboards.

Thanks, Mark from Google.

Mark, thank you!!  Dick & Chad.
