The Giz Wiz Show 1643 for October 6th 2017, Our 126th Independent Production.

We're into our third year of Independent Production thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help.

This week we finish the Giz Wiz visit to Interbike 2017, with the final three bike gadgets. Two of them are coming out this month, October 2017, and the other one is already in the marketplace. We start with a two-in-one bike gadget. It's a comfortable bike seat and a secure lock - both in one device.

Seatylock may seem like a strange name for a product but it does describe exactly what this gadget is! Every bike needs a comfortable seat, and a secure lock. Well, Seatylock is both! The removable seat features a hidden extendable series of inter-locking hardened steel links which can be unfolded and used to secure the bicycle, frame, tire and of course the attached seat, to a sturdy external object. The company adds that Seatylock Is rust free and that the hardened steel lock links are covered with plastic to protect your bike's frame from scratches. The device comes in two seat sizes - the"Trekking" seat and the "Comfort" seat, both available in many colors. It includes a universal adapter to make Seatylock compatible with most standard bikes. $99.00.

SmartHalo, a new bike gadget that guides your way, all with LED's.

Smarthalo is a different way for cyclists to navigate using a minimalist circular interface that connects with a smartphone via Bluetooth. Using just color LED's, it shows the quickest and (hopefully) safest paths to your destination. It also lights the way at night and keeps the bike safe against thieves with an integrated alarm system. The accessory kit lets you install the device on most any regular bike’s handlebars. It connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth, and acts as a visually simplistic navigation guide. Insert your destination into the SmartHalo's corresponding app and it will provide you with turn-by-turn directions using light signals. It's weather-resistant and a sensor will turn on the two forward facing bright white LED's when the device detects darkness. You can also use the app to track your bike's location in case you forget where you left it. SmartHalo attaches to the handlebars with tamper-proof screws that only the owner can detach with a custom key fob. There's a motion sensor alarm that is deactivated when you approach your bike and the SmartHalo detects your phone. But wait, there's more! It also functions as a fitness tool. Set your personal goals and the SmartHalo will display your progress. There is a bit of a learning curve with all the functions and light colors, but the company feels this a lot safer than trying to follow a route staring at your phone while underway. $149.00.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For October!

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members (the great folks who keep our show alive) as to what he should chose for his October them. Their verdict: Cheap Halloween gadgets!

So Chad rushed over to his just-opened Spirit Halloween store and purchased their Alien Voice Changer. Spirit says: “Scare everyone into thinking an alien has invaded the party! Using this alien voice changer you’ll be able to talk like you’re out of this world all night long.” Chad showed us that it's small: 4.25”H X 2.75”W X 1.25”D and comes with a connected microphone. The object is to put the microphone near your mouth (on the lapel of a costume, for example) and then clip the amp/speaker unit to your belt or some part of your costume. It's made of plastic and battery powered. $9.99 at Spirit Halloween.

And Chad's take? You won't scare people as much as annoy them and yourself with the endless screeching of the feedback. One of the 10 choices seemed to work sort of okay, but the volume is so low you also hear normal Chad's voice too. That destroys any thought of an alien voice. Be sure to watch the video and judge for yourself. Final verdict? Chad dubbed this device, 'the crappiest of all crappy gadgets!”

As of 10/6/17 is was also available online at the Spirit Halloween website: https://www.spirithalloween.com/product/alien-voice-changer/152118.uts?keyword=voice%20changer&thumbnailIndex=2&Search=Find+It

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Celebrating a gadget that changed portable computing! It's the 25th Anniversary of the IBM Thinkpad, World's First Color Portable.

Yes, October, 2017 celebrates the 25th anniversary of the first IBM ThinkPad notebook computer announced by IBM in October 1992. It went on sale immediately after the announcement. The 700C was their first color notebook with a 25MHz 80486 SLC processor upgradable to 50MHz. It also introduced the little red track point mouse-type device, or some people called it - the eraser - and something else very clever, the ThinkLight. The ThinkLight was a two small LED's to light the keyboard in dark situations. There were no backlit keyboards 25 years ago. This was not a size or light computer. It was 11.7" X 8.3" X 2.2" & weighed 7.6 pounds. The 10.4-inch screen offered 256 colors and an active-matrix LCD. The cost? $4,350 w/120MB HD. That's more that $7500 in 2017 dollars. Run time on a full battery was said to be about 3.5 hours. IBM was bought out by Lenovo in 2005 and they still produce ThinkPads. The lastest is the 5th generation Carbon X1 ThinkPad. It's 347,000 times faster, has 1,024 time more memory, and is WAY thinner & lighter than the 25 year old model. And it starts at about $1500!

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
