This week, in place a warehouse video, we have a viewer video review of a gadget I talked about on The Giz Wiz a short while back. Here's the email:
Hi Dick and Chad,
This is Linda from Long Island. You might remember a video I sent in a few years back when you guys were still doing the show on TWiT where I showed off my old cell phone collection. I thought I would send along this little review I did for the Inateck Anti-theft laptop backpack you showed on the Giz Wiz a few weeks back.
I am an adjunct mathematics professor teaching at two different colleges on Long Island. As an adjunct, I don’t have an office so I have to carry everything I need with me or have quick easy access to my car’s trunk to swap out materials. This year I decided to go all digital so I scanned all my lecture notes and any text book materials I would need in class (not illegal, I own the books and it’s for personal use) and I use a Microsoft Surface 3 tablet computer while I lecture. So I don’t have to carry any notebooks or text books with me.
I have tried all sorts of different types of bags including a rolling bag I tested out last year. It worked great if the weather was good, not so much in the rain or snow. I always end up coming back to my old M11 tactical pack as a default. So when I saw the Inateck bag on the show, I thought I’d try it.
Here is the link for the video: https://youtu.be/aHyPiVehpZs
I forgot to mention in the video that there was another problem with the battery cable. The fact that there wasn’t much holding in place meant that it was hard to get a good connection between my cable and the access port on the outside of the bag. My cable would remain attached if the bag was left stationary but if I picked the bag up or tried to walk around while I had my phone plugged in, the cable would fall out. This, coupled with the fast charging issue I mentioned in the video, is why I ended up hacking together my own solution and running a cable myself.
Overall I really like this pack. So far it seems sturdy enough. After three weeks of everyday use, it seems like new. Linda N.
From The Giz Wiz: The Inateck backpack is still $39.99 on Amazon, but now it's a 15% discount for buying just one. Be sure to click the "Buy one, get 15% off" link on the Amazon page to get that. We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!
We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!
IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)
All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week: (Probably the most touching letter we've ever received on The Giz Wiz Show.)
Mon, Oct 9, 2017
Hello. Thank you for your show, it's life saving.s
No power or water since September 6, when hurricane Irma hit us down here in Puerto Rico and later Maria. I was able to find enough data to download 2 of your latest shows parking near a fast food restaurant. The first thing I wanted to have it was your show back in my life.
Maybe you can do a disaster themed episode, showing gadgets for power like solar batteries and water purification gadgets. I don't know I guess I am just happy to hear from you guys.
Thank you for the good times. Ernesto I. Rodriguez
