Giz Wiz Show 1751 October 31, 2019 Independent Show #233

Wow! The Giz Wiz Show is in year 13 overall & our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including  travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv.  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

Now on to this week's show! PhotoPlus at the Javits Center is a show mostly aimed at the high-end of the photography market. There was gadget there I thought was interesting called the Camera Canopy. When you have an expensive camera and lens and have to shoot outdoors, this would be a great accessory. It's a two piece device - (three with the attachable rear shield) - that easily attaches to and detaches from a camera via the hot shoe. The retractable upper shield can be adjusted to fit up to a 500 mm telephoto lens. The Camera Canopy is clear-providing complete visibility of camera and settings. You'll hear the whole store of the Camera Canopy in the video we shot at the PhotoPlus show. It's priced at $87.99 and comes ready to use in its own carry bag.

Need a handy decent-sized bucket? Have limited space?

Then you need a Collapsible Bucket. I bought as a 'deal of the day' a few months ago, and found it very useful on my boat. You can have a full sized bucket to store stuff, or to use as a bucket for washing down the decks, ice chest, etc., and when you're finished with it, you can collapse it down to about 1/3 it's size. It was also on Amazon, but it's no longer available there. I did find it on AliExpress, with a description that has a few things in it I don't understand: “High strength harmless PP plastic construction, good tenacity (huh?), non-toxic, odorless, non-friable (huh again), durable for long time use. Light weight, collapsible and portable, could be stored in car conveniently. Function as a barrel to store water or use as a washing basin when it shrank at camping. (Shrank at camping??) Designed with a lid, dust proof to keep inner water clean, practical and reliable.” My bucket is marked 4 Gallons and is said to be 4” high collapsed and 11.8” expanded. I paid about $10, but it's no longer available where I bought it. It's about $20 on AliExpress with a shipping charge of ---- ready ---  23 cents! Those prices were as of 11/1/19.

LumiCharge Adds Wireless Charging To Their Smart Lamp 2.0

This Smart LED desk lamp is loaded with useful features. First, it's a convenient place to charge your phone and other small electronic devices. The new 2.0 version adds a universal charging dock with a10W wireless charger for phones designed for charged wirelessly. The LED has three lighting modes: bright white, soft white and soft yellow. Within those modes you have 10 degrees of brightness adjusted via up/down arrows. A built-in motion sensor turns a built-in night light ON when you enter a dark room and that feature has it's own on/off switch. The LED display shows time, date, day of the week, and temperature. It also auto-adjusts for daylight savings time. There's also a built-in alarm w/snooze and a timer. On the front of the lamp there's a dial that lets you charge another device by turning it to the microUSB, USB-C, or lightening connector. For some strange reason the door doesn't close completely when not in use. There's a USB port on the back as another charging option. The lamp can rotate 180 degrees and be adjusted forward and backward. MSRP is $149.99. There's also a version which looks like it has the identical features minus the wireless charger. That has a MSRP of $119.99. The 2.0 version is available in white, black and silver. The original one seems to be in black only. Although not an inexpensive purchase, reviews online seem quite good. The product sample was sent to me by Lumicharge which has no idea if I'll write about it, or what I might say about it.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Final Gadget For His October Theme.

Chad's October theme, as picked by our loyal Patreons, is “cheap gadgets from Alibaba!”.

His final Alibaba week gadgets are two kitchen gadgets. First he shows us the Stainless Steel Onion Chopper Slicer Garlic Coriander Cutter Cooking Tool. Watch Chad's kitchen demo to see that this device looks pretty good, but does pretty much nothing in the way of dicing and slicing! But it's under $3.

The second kitchen gadgets is a funnel designed to clip to the edge of pots to make the liquid flow easily and keeping your kitchen clean. This one worked out much better as you'll also see in Demo's demo on the show. They're each under $3 and took about 2 weeks to arrive via AliExpress. (That's fast delivery for them. It used to be 4 to 6 weeks.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video On Any Gadget!

Our viewer video email of the week came from Linda who found a great way to save money while having great Halloween displays. She buy them from her local thrift store. And as you'll see in here video, she discovered some great 'spooky' gadgets. Here's Linda's email.

Hi Dick and Chad,

This is a video for a few fun Halloween gadgets that I thought you might like. These are all from a local thrift shop so the most I paid was $2.99 for each of them.

Thank you, Linda

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show!

Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hting? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week!

Dick, I have some info for you and Chad on the request you made on the 10/17 show.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing prints US currency. The US Mint makes all the coins and medals.  It's a common misconception a lot of people make when talking about money.
The highest current denomination is the $100 bill. The highest bill ever printed, however, was a $100,000 note that was printed from December 18, 1934 to January 9, 1935. It was used for transactions between Federal Reserve Banks. President Woodrow Wilson was pictured on the front. The following bills have not been in print since 1946: $500 (William McKinley); $1,000 (Grover Cleveland); $5,000 (James Madison); and $10,000 (Salmon P. Chase, former Treasury Secretary).  $100,000 (Woodrow Wilson)
