The Giz Wiz Show 1673, May 4th 2018 Our Third Anniversary Show!

This show celebrates our 3rd anniversary of being independent!! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

Spring bring the Time To Play Magazine Spring event, with a look ahead at what toys are expected to be big sellers. And demo three of them on this week's show!

Watermelon Smash - The lastest way to get wet.

Watermelon Smash is a fun new twist on the water roulette game. It challenges each player to press the watermelon against their head as many times as the number on the spinner. It's a suspenseful game because you never know when the watermelon will fully crack open. If it cracks on your turn, you either get covered with water or plastic watermelon seeds and you are out of the game. Be the last player left to avoid having the watermelon crack open and you win. Great for indoor play with seeds or outdoor play with water. The seeds are plastic and looked to be harmless, but not nearly as much fun as having it filled with water. Suggested Age is 6 Years and Up. I assume you could play it by yourself, but it would be much more fun with 2 or more players. It's $19.99 at Target and available now.

Make a lot of bubbles just by waving your fun animal glove.

Glove-A-Bubble is a really clever idea. First of all the glove itself is the packaging. It's made of a durable plastic so my guess you'll get a summer's play out of it. And as you'll see in the video, it makes a lot of bubbles as you wave the glove. I believe they only come in one size so they might be a bit big for young kids. But maybe they can just put on other gloves and then their Glove-A-Bubble glove. I did read some of the reviews online and people complain that it's hard to dip the Glove-A-Bubble into the bag of liquid bubbles in the kit. I would do what they did at the press event, put the bubble liquid in a larger bowl, or maybe a glass pie dish. That would make for easy dipping. And once that runs out I bet they'll work just as well with any bottle of bubble liquid. And hey they're like $1.99 at Walmart & Target. Beware buying them on Amazon. Some sell 4 for $9.99, which is $2.50 each, but others are charging ridiculously high prices.

Fun bracelets that turn into animals and then back again with a single pull.

Twisty Petz is a new line of two-in-one faux gem animals that go from figure to bracelet and back again with just a twist. There are more than 70 to collect featuring all kinds of animals from turtles, cats, and bunnies to pandas, unicorns, and zebras. And some of the pets are metallic, rainbow, neon, pastel, pearl, golden, silver shimmer, and fuzzy. All you do is pull the head and tail of the animal figure to release them back to bracelet and then follow the instructions on how to make it an animal again. You'll see in the video that the spokesperson does it rather quickly. I guess the younger you are, the faster you'll learn how to do it! Twisty Petz are available to collect in individual Single Packs, in Three-Packs with two pets revealed in packaging and one hidden, and in Twin Babies Four Packs that include two sets of twins, a charm, and a case. Each pack is sold separately and comes with a collector's guide. Twisty Petz are for ages 4 and up. Price wise, the Twisty Petz Single Packs are $5.99, while the Three-Packs are $14.99 and the Twin Babies Four Pack is $9.99. I think they're colorful and fun, and I bet kids will eat them up – well, buy them up. Prices seem reasonable too.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For May 2018.

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his cheap theme for May. Their choice “Cheap DIY Gadgets”!

This week Chad's first pick is the Elenco AmeriKit Learn to Solder Kit

Here's what Amazon says about it: A must for a budding electronics engineer learning how to solder. After practicing your soldering techniques on the special area of the board, you'll be ready to assemble a European style siren with flashing LED's. This kit also includes solder, a soldering iron and wire cutters. Needs a 9 volt battery for testing soldered circuits. This kit requires soldering. Learn to solder on the special practice section of your printed circuit board (PCB). Includes: solder, soldering iron and wire cutters. Ages 12 and up. SOLDERING REQUIRED. Under $17.

And Chad's take: Chad loved this kit! He never much experience soldering and didn't even have a soldering iron. So here for under $20 (Under $17 on Amazon) he got the kit which includes a working soldering iron, soldering, LED, printed circuit board and plenty of parts that need to be soldered. Chad was REALLY impressed that the circuit board has a whole area for 'practice' soldering. (Be sure to watch the video of Chad working in this weeks' show.) The best part is that when it's done and you turn it on, if the LED's blinking and speaker makes noise, you've completed all the steps correctly!

 +++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

 -

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions.

   -

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

 -

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
