The Giz Wiz Show 1676, May 25th 2018 Independent Show #159

The Giz Wiz Show recently started it's13th year! The first show was February 20th, 2006. And this episode is starts our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

And now onto the show! Three new products from the Great Finds Product Expo, May 3rd, NYC.

Give your doggie a bath, without using a bathtub, or even the sink. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Here's what Bissell says about their new gizmo: Welcome to the next generation of dog-bathing, the BarkBath QT is a quieter, faster, easier and less messy way to bathe your four-legged family member. This portable bathing system allows you to bathe your pet practically anywhere and anytime with virtually no mess. Specially designed nozzles get beneath the fur and down to the skin to allow water and shampoo to wash the skin clean while a soft suction pulls dirt and water away into a separate dirty water tank,. The system works with any length of fur – short or long – and one tank of water will completely wash an 80 lbs dog, while the no-rinse shampoo formula leaves your dog’s coat feeling smooth, clean and fresh.

A toothbrush that always lands bristles up if you drop it!

At the Great Finds Expo I once again meet Harry Zimmerman. He's an engineer that invents very useful and unique gadgets. He last one was MightyMug, a mug that's just about to accidentally knock over when you place it down on the table. Here's a video of how well it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6cc_YeGfFU&feature=youtu.be&t=1s

Harry's newest invention is BrushUp, the only toothbrush designed to always land with the brush facing up. That's right, drop it floor, bounce it off the sink, do what you want with it but it always lands bristles up. You get 360 degree protection because the head never touches the counter, even when it rolls. Harry is not going to sell this in stores, but via his new BrushUp Club. That's the only way to get the only toothbrush that always lands bristles up. They ship a new brush every 3 months like your dentist and the ADA recommends. Cost? It's $20 a year which includes shipping. And if you have a family, you can check out their different bundles which drop the price to less than $5 a brush. The BrushUp Club will go live next month, June, 2018.

An indoor garden that pretty much takes care of itself!

AeroGardens are the world’s leading indoor gardening systems. I've seen them for many years at the National Hardware Show, but they seemed a bit on the expensive side. Well now they're producing the Aero Garden Harvest, which is retails for about $110. If you want to have fresh herbs, vegetables and even flower grown in your home, year-round this is perfect. This smart countertop garden uses water and patented nutrients to naturally grow plants… no herbicides are pesticides. You can grow up to 6 plants in this garden and they’ll love the 20 watts of high performance, energy efficient LED lighting. The LED lights are tuned to the specific spectrum that allows plants to maximize photosynthesis, resulting in rapid, natural growth and abundant harvests. The LED lights concentrate daylight white LEDs for fast growth, blue LEDs for bigger yields, and red LEDs for more flowers and fruit. With ideal lighting and optimally balanced levels of water and nutrients, plants grow up to 5 times faster than when grown in soil. And everything is automatic. Just add water and the LED display reminds you when to do that too!

Chad's Crappy Corner & Another Gadget For His May Theme!

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his cheap theme for May. Their choice was “Cheap DIY Gadgets”! This week Chad's pick is Runt Rover Kit from Servocity.

Here's what the company says about their kit: The Runt Rover collection of unique kits spark creativity and imagination. They are fun, affordable, durable and snap together quickly! They can easily be expanded with our continually growing Actobotics line. Whether you’re an experienced roboticist or new hobbyist, these are great for a variety of applications. Simply mount your electronics using our innovative multi-board mounts that are compatible with a variety of micro-controllers; such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino and the SparkFun Redboard. The Runt Rovers™ are perfect for beginning lite programming and educational applications. The Peewee kit is the smallest of the bunch. There are no tools required to assemble this kit, it is entirely snap-together!$15.99.

And Chad's take: Chad liked this kit but didn't realize you never something to control it. But he was impressed that he built it without tools. And it was worth the $15.99 considering the fact it comes with two working motors. Be sure to watch Chad's video in this week's show.

The one Chad built in the video is here: https://www.servocity.com/peewee

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

I found this unique gadget on a shelf in Dick's Gadget Warehouse recently. Seven years ago, this device was introduced as an easy way to charge your electronic devices. Called the Zip Touch-N-Go from The Joy Factory, it let you charge your devices by using something the company calls Zip Tails. The ultra-low profile “ZipTail” connectors (almost the size of a button) eliminate cord tangle because they’re super short, at about 2 inches. The neat part is attaching them to the charger. You just touch it to the pad and a magnetic tab will quickly grab it and slide it into one of the 12 contacts. The Zip starter kit that included one mini USB and two micro USB receiver was priced at $79.95. It's no longer available at retail, but you can find them on ebay for as little as $9.98. The Joy Factory is still around producing other electronic accessories.

There was a Touch'n-Go here on ebay link for $18, plus shipping as of 5/24/18: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Joy-Factory-Zip-Touch-n-Go-ACC115-Multi-Charging-Station-Mini-USB-Micro-USB-/331863186711

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

-

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Bradley Moore writes: Hello Dick and Chad!

I loved your recent episode were Chad used the raspberry pie to play retro games. I am very techy but I know there are many people out there who are not. I found a couple companies on Amazon that have packages that comes with everything you would need build a small computer or even a retro game system. These kits are amazing, they come with everything you need to get a pie up and running.

The coolest kit I found was the retro game system kit. It comes with the pie, cables, case and even retro controllers. See the link below for this cool product.

Most Amazon links are Giz Wiz Show links. You pay exactly the same as everyone but Giz Wiz Biz gets a small credit to buy more stuff for the show. If I find it cheaper in places other than Amazon, I post that link.
