The Giz Wiz Show 1674, May 11th 2018 Independent Show #157

WELCOME TO THE FIRST SHOW OF YEAR FOUR OF INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION!

The Giz Wiz Show recently started it's13th year! The first show was February 20th, 2006. And this episode is starts our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv . You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

We'll do three more fun gadgets from the Time To Play Magazine Spring event next week, but this week we'll talk about three new pet gadgets from the NY Pet Re-Tails Expo.

Meet The Headlight Harness

Our dog Charlie loves his Headlight Harness and we all can be seen in the dark! The Headlight Harness is a great versatile dog harness. It's well constructed, highly reflective, lightweight and even water resistant. It earns its name because it features an integrated, focused beam LED in the chest area which lights the way with over 80 lumens. Not only does it light up the path ahead on your walks at night, it also makes you and your pet visible to any vehicles or bikes in the area. And that greatly reduces the risk of being struck. The company says that their “No Choke/No Pull” design eliminates choking while calming your dog and reducing their tendency to “Pull Away” from their owners while on walks. Another bonus is that the Headlight Harness also keeps your pet safe and secure in vehicles. Simply run the seatbelt through the sturdy handle on the top and buckle it for a safe and relaxing ride. It also, and this we like a lot for Charlie, doesn't choke your dog if they tend to pull on their collar. You'll see the explantion in the video on this week's show. Most models sell for $59.99, a very decent price considering the quality of the harness.

One of the cleverest dog crates I've ever seen.

A new company Diggs, created the Revol Dog Crate and Snooz Pad. It's a big hit on Kickstarter where they quickly reached their goal of $30,000 and I believe are up around $86,000 as I write this. Just one look at this dog crate and you can see it's different from anything you've seen before. (Or at least I've seen before.) Not only is it good looking, but when Zel Crampton, CEO of Diggs demonstrated how easy it is to unfold, and then collapse again, I was very impressed. You can lock it into the open position with a single turn using one hand. Right now the small version of the Revol dog crate (for dogs up to 30 pounds) is available and larger sizes are in the works. Be sure to watch this weeks video version to see all the features. Zel also showed us their CertiPUR-US orthopedic memory foam dog mattress and said it's the same material that's free of heavy metals or harsh chemicals and often used for the high-end children's mattresses. The Revol dog crate comes with a puppy divider so the crate can grow with the dog and it's equipped with a front door for regular access, a ceiling hatch to feed and pet the dog and a large side door that can be kept open with magnets for when you want to let your dog use it as his/her home. When it's in full retail it will be $199.99, but right now (until late summer or so) it $160.00 at the company website.

Also found at the Pet Re-Tails Expo: Push-N-Pop Treat/Food Dispenser

Unless your dog (or cat) knows how to text or turn on the flat screen TV for entertainment when you're away, this might be a great way for them to have fun and be rewarded, even when no one is around. Just fill Push-N-Pop with your pet’s favorite dry food or treats and place it on the floor. No batteries or power needed because 'pet-powered. As your pet nudges and rolls this fun toy around the floor, treats pop out with each push! The company say it's also good for cats, but I'm not sure cats would bother to push it. We tried the device on Gizneyland's mascot, Charlie. He's a little terrier and he also preferred us to push it around, but he was willing to eat the treats as the 'popped' out. It's under $25 and will be available in stores later in June, 2018.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Second Gadget For His New May Theme!

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his cheap theme for May. Their choice “Cheap DIY Gadgets”! These are gadgets you make yourself.

This week Chad's second pick is the Google Cardboard viewer. The cost? Zero, assuming you have the minor 'makings' in the house already. Here's how Google puts it: “When we said making your own Google Cardboard was for everyone, we meant everyone, and that includes manufacturers too. So the Cardboard viewer specification is open source and ready for you to start building. Watch this video to see Chad built his own Google Cardboard. As he pointed out, the main thing you need is cardboard. And if you have Amazon Prime you most likely have LOT of cardboard around. Chad even shows us how to make the lenses. From watching Chad build his own Google Cardboard, I would say you need a lot of patience. But that's something you'll have judge for yourself. Once you build your VR viewer, it should work great with Cardboard apps and games. Here's Chad's link to get started, and that photo above is Chad's finished 'cardboard VR'. (Chad thinks this is a great project to do with kids too.) And don't forget, you need to supply the phone - Android or iOS. (Phone requires gyroscope sensor for 360 VR.)

Link to download the plans for building your own cardboard VR: (You can buy built ones there too starting at under $8.)

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

Our Viewer video of the week arrived with this email:

Hi Dick & Chad,

I am not the greatest of speakers, but I have this kind of strange, but useful gadget that I have been wanting to share with you for a long time so I finally broke down and made a video.

This is a bluetooth audio cassette.  I use it in my truck that has no auxiliary input.  I have tried the FM bluetooth adapters, but they always seem to fade in and out.  This thing works flawlessly.  The only problem with it is that you need to charge it once in a while.  My power outlet stays on, even while the key is out, so when I remember, I simply plug it in when I park my truck.

It's on Amazon.

Thanks so much! Love the show! Michael Stevens

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
