The Giz Wiz Show 1621 for May 5th 2017, Our 104rd Independent Production.

Yes, We're Celebrating Two Years Of Independent Production With This Episode!

Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show not only continues, but is celebrating the end of its 2nd year of independent production! If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/ You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support.

On this week's show we look at fun toys found at the Time To Play Magazine Spring Showcase.

Unlike Toy Fair where the gadgets and toys on display are usually not available until the holidays, the Spring showcase features merchandise that's available now, or coming very soon. Antsy Pants for example, is available now, but only at Target. Antsy Pants is designed to encourage imaginative play through easy-to-build structures to help take playtime back in a digitally-dominated world. To build one of the two largest Antsy Pants™ projects shown in my video, select the Large Build & Play Kit plus one or more fabric covers to create an Ice Cream Truck or Pirate Ship. Additional accessories include an Attachable Tunnel, Connectors Expansion Pack, Poles Expansion Pack, an Obstacle Course, 4-in-1 Play Liner, Play Balls, and Storage Unit. Each item is sold separately.

KapIt -- a game where you flip a bottle and hope it lands on its cap!

Bottle flipping has become a big deal these days. Kids love to flip bottles and post their play online. After watching their kids spend enjoyable hours flipping bottles and having fun, three dads get together and figured “let's market a bottle-flipping game". They did and they came up with KapIt. The game "board" is non-slip, thickish, and most likely water-proof mat. The instructions are simple. Fill the bottles (you get two in the set) with water to the bottom of the line on the sticker. The flip the bottle and try to land it on its kap. Different places on the game board are worth various points; scoring 21 wins. The inventors told me the bottles are sturdier than normal bottles with a slightly bigger cap. MSRP of KapIt is $19.99.

Lightseekers - Action Figures That Double As Your Digital Game Controller

Here's what the company says about their new Lightseekers that became available on May 1, 2017. Every element of their Lightseekers universe interacts with our game. That means physical trading cards, digital action figures, comics, posters, packaging, videos and more will unlock additional rewards and new content. Everything works together to make your gaming experience even more compelling. The more support we receive, the more we will create that will enhance the Lightseekers game and reward you, the player. (From The Giz Wiz: And a lot of support they got. They were a Kickstarter project looking to raise $200,000. They passed their goal with a total of $227,660.00.) Back to the company: Manufactured by TOMY, world renowned for quality, our digital action figures deliver real time 2-way interaction between your hero and the game. They talk, vibrate, and use different colored lights to show levels, status, warn of impending danger and help guide gameplay - think of them as your ultimate wingman! Your hero’s evolving in-game attributes, accomplishments, and lineage are stored in perpetuity so that your hero is truly one of a kind. (Giz Wiz Again: Wow, I thought they were only an action figure!) A starter pack is $69.99.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For May 2017

Chad polled our amazing Patreon members and asked them to vote on a theme for May. Their choice, and the one Chad was hoping for, is Cheap Pet Gadgets!

Chad's first pet gadget is the Pooch Selfie! First from Amazon: The Story of Pooch Selfie. We love our dogs and we love to take pictures of them. But somehow dogs just don't understand that and won't stay still long enough for a decent picture. Getting them to look into the camera is just about impossible. To help solve these problems, we are proud to introduce the Pooch Selfie, the Original Pet Selfie Smartphone Attachment. Pooch Selfie comes with a removable Squeaking Pooch Selfie ball and One Smartphone Attachment. Slide the clip over your smartphone or tablet and attach the tennis ball on top of your phone. That's it! Pooch Selfie provides clearances for both front and rear facing cameras. Designed for both iPhones and Galaxy smartphone models and is also compatible with most 3rd party smartphone cases.

And Chad's take: It works pretty well. Watch Chad's video of trying to take pictures of his dog Charlie, 1st without the Pooch Selfie, and then after attaching it. Chad got a couple of great shots of Charlie staring up at the ball on the camera. Chad pointed out that you may have to flip the clip around so it doesn't block the camera on your smart phone, but you'll see it does get a dog's attention. Chad paid $12.99 for his on Amazon. There are also some others devices that look like the Pooch Selife, but Chad bought what is said to be the original!

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

This week's gadget warehouse video is another real gadget warehouse video. Recently, I talked about two new White Noise Machine. Jim shows us one he bought something like 20 years ago. And the company still makes it! Here's the email we received with the link:

From: Jim Nichols

Subject: Viewer video - Marpac Sleep Mate Sound Machine

Sorry for the flicker from the LED bulb in the room.

I forgot to mention in the video that it’s the "Sleep Mate", by Marpac. They still make them, here’s the current model, now called “Dohm".

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Subject: Interesting Addon

Hello Dick and Chad,

You sign up at http://www.wikibuy.com/ for free.  Select the add wikibuy button.

It adds it to Chrome and whenever you are shopping on Amazon, wikibuy is trying to find a cheaper price for the item. I used it when I was going to buy one of those cables you mentioned that have both android and IOS connectors and attach to an SD card.

Well, it was, at the time, $49.99 on Amazon.  Wikibuy led me to an ebay seller selling it for $35. It's a great little tool and can save you some cash.

Love the show. Dave Martel
