The Giz Wiz Show 1623 for May 19th 2017, Our 106th Independent Production.

We're Celebrating Two Years+ Of Independent Production! Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show continues into year three! If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/ You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help.

And now onto this week's show, starting with a really unique and inventive gadget!

Make a single Tea Light candle up to 100 times brighter!

That's what Caframo says about their JOI Lamp Tea Light Candle Powered LED Lamp. And yes, it does work! The JOI lamps doesn't use batteries, solar or wall power to create its own light. It does use thermo-electric technology to transform the energy of a single tea light candle into enough light to illuminate your night. Within about four minutes of lighting it, JOI begins to convert the heat of the candle into more than 18 times the light generated by the tea light alone. The box copy says: '100X brighter than one tea light candle” and that sounds very reasonable after this using really unusual lamp. The design makes it an ideal centerpiece and the technology makes it perfect for indoor or outdoor lighting. Watch the video to see how versatile this lamp design is with dozen of various positions for the movable, extending arms, and adjustable shade. On Amazon it got 4.7 out of 5 stars from 65 reviewers, so people do love this lantern. It's not inexpensive at about $107.00 on Amazon, but I have seen it as low as $89 by doing a web search.

The under $14 color video security camera.

I like having a security camera facing the street from my Gizneyland studio. It's mainly to watch for deliveries, or the Post Office truck when I have packages to send out. I tried a Dropcam, but the lag is too long. I had another wireless camera that broadcasted on 2.4 Ghz, but that finally gave up the ghost. So I decided a hard wired camera would show me action outside my studio 'live'. But I never guessed I could buy one so cheap! The one I bought was the “Ansice 3.6mm Lens Wide Angle Mini Case Camera 540TVL CMOS With Filter CCTV Pinhole Camera. It is a bare-bones indoor camera with no infrared, no night vision and no sound. But hey, it's under $14! Power Required:12V DC 500mA or above and it's sold without power supply. The power supply added about $7 or so, and I bought a 25' extension for $7.50. So the whole camera security system was under $30. I already had an 7” monitor with RCA video in, so I used that for viewing. You can see how the camera does on my video.

An Eye-Catching 12 volt graphic equalizer!

Or as Amazon calls it: Signstek Sound Music Beat Activated Car Stickers Equalizer Glow Blue LED Light Audio Voice Rhythm Lamp. This (sort of) amazing sound activated graphic equalizer is made of a soft, thin sheet of what feels like a medium duty plastic. It's designed to put be placed inside the back windshield, side window, or wherever you feel appropriate. Is it legal? Who knows. That question was posed on Amazon and no one was able to answer it. The roughly 18” x 4.75” sheet is furnished with double faced adhesive tape. The sign comes with a little control box with a sensitivity switch, an on/off switch and built-in microphone. It plugs into a 12 volt lighter plug, assuming cars still have them. (I haven't driven in 20 years.) Now it's supposed to dance to your music, or your voice, but as you'll see in many of the ratings, the sensitivity control doesn't give you a lot of control. I found it either didn't respond at all, or responded by making almost all the bars peak at once. Still and all, it's eye-catching and only $10.99. Oh, one more thing; the quality is also iffy. I bought two of them. One died in about 5 minutes and the other one is still working fine. And who needs to know this? It only takes 1mW per spare centimeters, saving energy as much as possible for you. UPDATE: The second one died a day later. Not owning a car I hooked it to a 12 volt convertor so I could use it in my Gizneyland studio. It burned out rather quickly. I see in other reviews since, they can overheat and burn out. One reviewer warned of a possible fire. So I'm not going to order a replacement.

Chad's Crappy Corner & His New Theme For May 2017, Pet Gadgets

Chad polled our amazing Patreon members and asked them to vote on a theme for May. Their choice “cheap pet gadgets”. This week Chad's cheap pet gadget is not too cheap, and definitely not crappy!

The Easy-Clean Auto-Fill Water Bowl with (5-Foot) Long Stainless Steel Hose

Here's what Amazon says about it: The Easy-Clean Water Bowl is an automatic filling water bowl for all sized animals featuring several cost and time saving features. It has no corners, pockets or inaccessible areas for Easy-Cleaning ability. It provides an easy do-it-yourself way to have automatic water for pets. It is automatic filling, with a fast-fill float valve that can replenish the water even faster than a horse can drink. It's compact, and reduces the water capacity and surface area to a minimum. It provides a better quality, protected float valve that easily hinges open for cleaning. There is no spraying water or noise when filling that could startle animals. MSRP $39.99.

And Chad's take. Chad liked this a lot. And so does Charlie. Chad was afraid Charlie might treat like a dog toy and chew on it, but Charlie uses it for its intended purpose, to have fresh, clean water to drink. Chad thought it was well fine and was impressed by all the accessories available, like a heater if you live in a cold climate. (But you hopefully won't be leaving your dog outside in very cold weather.) All-in-all, this was not a cheap, crappy gadget, but a reasonable priced, useful one.

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos!

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

 Hi Dick and Chad,

I really enjoyed your segment on the magnetic USB cables, Chad.  I have a few that I bought from a different vendor several months ago and really like them.  Today I found an even better solution at Indiegogo.  They are adapters that change your current cables into magnetic cables.

Steve Miller - Tardisrider in the chat room when I remember to tune in when you are live.
I’ve been a Gizwiz listener/viewer since the third month Dick and Leo started the series.
Also a proud Pateron supported since the beginning of your independent Gizwiz.
