The Giz Wiz Show # 1822 – Thursday 3/11/21 Independent Show #301

Wow! This is Giz Wiz Show 3 of year 16! (The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006!) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we're now going into year 16. If it wasn't for our supporters the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/

We start this week's show with the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 Dashboard & Windshield Car Mount Phone Holder

I wanted to mount a smartphone on the windshield of my Farallon Workboat to use it as a security camera. (See link below for Alfred Camera that lets you do that.) So I needed a really decent mount that could take the pounding of waves from storms and wakes around my boat. The iOttie Easy One Touch 5 looked decent and had good reviews on Amazon, so I bought that. I nearly bought the model 4, but fortunately saw the “there's a newer model of this” just in time. The model 5 is said to have a new larger Easy One Touch button and a cradle that allows for wider device & case compatibility. Plus an improved telescopic arm that extends further and pivots. And finally the newer model has a redesigned suction cup with an improved sticky gel formula that provides a stronger, lasting hold. You'll see how it worked out in the video we shot aboard my boat. On Amazon both the model 4 and the newer model 5 were selling for the same price, about $25.00.

The Self Cleaning Pet/Upholstery Brush

The Inoosky Pet Hair Remover Brush (seems to be sold under other names too) is said to be more economical and friendly than a simple roller. It also is supposed to be "EASY TO SELF CLEAN. Just dip the fur-filled brush in the base, and when you take it out, you will have a clean brush again. The soft and easy grip handle makes removing animal hair and lint a more comfortable experience." Well, you'll have to watch the video on this week's show to judge for yourself. Spoiler. It does sort of self-clean. But it's also supposed to deposit the pick-up hair in the container at the bottom of the brush and, well it doesn't do that. At least I couldn't get it to do that. You are supposed to clean pets in the direction of the arrow on the brush, but I found that only helped a little. You'll see in the video why it's almost impossible for the brush to put the picked up pet hair into the bottom container. On the plus side, the company says you don't need to buy sticky tape and it doesn't use batteries. But it also doesn't work very well in my opinion. But it's under $10.

Read In Bed Without Disturbing Your Sleeping Partner.

It's easy to be able to read in bed at night without disturbing your spouse. Or read on an airplane where there's very little overhead light. Meet the strangely named Takkui Rechargeable LED Necklight. It offers 3 temperature light modes, yellow (3000K), warm white (4000K) and cool white (6000K). Plus each of those settings has a switch for 3 brightness levels. Choose a comfortable setting for reading, knitting, camping, repairing, crafts, etc. It's covered with a comfortable soft rubber, which the company says is sweatproof, bendable and strong so you can twist, or fold to create the perfect illumination for yourself. Only 0.22Ib so it can easily fit your carry-on, backpack or even (large) pocket. The narrow beam angle design shouldn't disturb a sleeping partner. Rechargeable built-in 1000mAh battery provides up to 40 hours of power depending on brightness. MSRP: $17.99

Chad's New Crappy Corner March Theme as picked by our loyal Patreon members!

he winning theme, voted on by our loyal Patreons, is Cheap Productivity Gadgets, or to put it another way: gadgets to help you get organized, do things more effectively or efficiently.

Chad's second gadget is the Rocketbook Mini.

First a bit of info from the company: The Everlast notebook provides a classic pen and paper experience, yet is built for the digital age. Although it feels like a traditional notebook, the Everlast is endlessly reusable and connected to all of your favorite cloud services. When you write using any pen from the Pilot Frixion line, your writing sticks to Everlast pages like regular paper. But add a drop of water… and the notebook erases like magic. We designed the Everlast for those who want an endlessly reusable notebook to last for years, if not a lifetime. The Everlast has pages made with synthetic materials that provide an extremely smooth writing experience. Blast your handwritten notes to popular cloud services like Google drive, Dropbox, Evernote, box, OneNote, Slack, iCloud, email and more using the free Rocketbook application for iOS and Android.

And Chad's take? Chad likes the mini a lot, and so did some in the chatroom. I'm with a few others who still thought a legal yellow pad would be good enough for our needs. But you have to watch this week's show to see how versatile the Rocketbook Mini is. It actually is quite amazing, right down to the ability to erase an entire page with the wipe of a wet cloth. That's probably after you've sent all the info on that page to a wide variety of emails and applications. Watch Chad explain it all on this week's show.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up
hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you'll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Challenge to Chad from Paul Griesbaum

Am I getting this right? A couple of times I've heard Chad say he thinks using a powered razor with shaving cream is really weird. I used to think the same thing, until a friend of mine got me one of these Gillette powered razors. After using it a couple of times, I really loved it. I love it so much, that I'll never go back to a regular razor. I love it so much that recently I bought a three-year supply from Costco. I was just wondering, if Chad has ever really tried this razor? I'll have to admit, that it may be purely psychological. The idea of using a powered razor with shaving cream just did not appeal to me before I used it. But after using it a couple of times, I really changed my mind. Here's a link, to the razor.
