Giz Wiz Show # 1823 – Thursday 3/18/21 Independent Show #302

Wow! This is Giz Wiz Show 4 of year 16! (The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006!) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we're now going into year 16. If it wasn't for our supporters the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/

We start this week's show with the TACKLIFE Tabletop Fireplace. Or to use the endless Amazon name: Tacklife Tabletop Fire Pit, Tabletop Fireplace with Glass Stone, Concrete Material and Windproof Glass Cover, Ethanol Fireplace.

I always wanted an indoor fireplace that had a real flame since I already have about 5 faux LED fireplaces. So I bought this one on Amazon. It seems really well built with a cement base, stainless steel insert to contain the flame, and a crystal clear glass chimney. There are two ways to use this mini fireplace. The company says the flame will be bigger if you burn directly with bioethanol fuel, which I bought. But the fireplace flame will last longer if you burn with a wick and alcohol, which I also bought. With alcohol the description says 'can burn for 2 hours', while the instructions say 'don't burn for more than 90 minutes'. Now that I've used both fuels (you'll see how they burn in the video on this week's show), I would say still with the 90 minutes burn time limit. I used this fireplace with the biofuel for more than 2 hours and almost burned my hand when I touched the cement base! It does get really hot! With either fuel, this tabletop fire pit bowl is ventless and portable, so you can take and place it wherever you want. (Before you light it.) So if you live in a city, you can have your own mini fireplace without the traditional wood logs or gas fires. The transparent windproof glass is for safety and to keep the flame lit outdoors. It's under $50. Again, keep track of the temperature of the base.

There are lots of devices to hold phones while watching videos & movies, here's one for smaller tablets.

It's the Aduro U-Grip Tablet Stand Holder, also described on Amazon as the Easy-Grip Adjustable Multi-Angle Universal Desk Mount for iPad & All Tablets. Well, it's for tablets, but not all tablets, just the smaller ones, from 7" to 10". I used it with my 8" Amazon Fire Tablet and it worked fine. Worked fine for holding the tablet, that is. As you'll see in the video on this week's show, the big rotating Rotating Grip Stand isn't the easiest to turn or to set for a particular viewing angle. Some reviewers said 'spray it with WD-10', others just broke the handle trying to force it. Once you place your tablet in the U-Grip, a button locks it firmly in place. That seemed to work well. But getting it set to a proper angle can be a hassle. Considering the problems, people seem willing to buy this device. It got 4.2 starts from more than 3,000 people. And it's not expensive. MSRP: $11.99

This Gambler's Wall Clock Is Also A Mini Safe.

The full name of this device on Amazon is the Trademark Gambler's Wall Clock Diversion Safe. From the front it looks like a normal clock, and it is. But it's thicker than a normal wall, about 3” thick. That's because behind the face of this classic style analog clock is a secret compartment with 3 shelves where you can hide items. The quartz clock uses a single AA battery, which is not included. The dimension of the clock is almost 10 inches in diameter and it's 3-inches deep. Two dividers in clock create three 2.75-inch-tall storage spaces. You secure the clock to the wall with 3 screws also not included, although a few viewers said it came with screws. (The clock in my video is secured with pushpins since it was the best place shoot it, that's why it looks a bit wonky.) There's no lock on this clock and I certainly wouldn't use it to hide really valuable things. But to hide some cash, maybe a watch or some not-too-expensive jewelry, spare keys, etc., this should work fine. I paid almost $20 for mine because it said the material was metal. It's not. It's plastic. On Amazon, you can get the same clock, sold as 'plastic' for about a lot less, so check around.

Chad's Crappy Corner & his third gadget for his new March Theme.

The winning theme, voted on by our loyal Patreons is Cheap Productivity Gadgets, or to put it another way: gadgets to help you get organized, do things more effectively or efficiently.

Chad's third 'Cheap Productivity gadget is PIHEN Timer, Kitchen Timer Multi-Function Electronic Digital Timer for Kids, Flip Timer with Time and Alarm Function, Suitable for Work, Exercise, Games, Cooking. The company calls it “Sophistication and simplicity You'll have judge for yourself when you see Chad demo this in his video. This timer starts and stops without you having to press a button. And it's totally portable. TickTime has 6 preset timings. Just flip TickTime so the time you want to count down is facing up. The timer starts automatically. So you won't waste a second and you'll get more out of every minute of every day. TickTime is a sophisticated timer. It is simple to operate by changing its positions. Meanwhile, if you want to manually set the time perfectly to every second, just easily push two buttons for setting the exact minute and second as you like. MSRP: $36.99.

And Chad's take: Chad basically like this device, but thought some of the design choices were odd. He'll explain it all in his video. It does look very techie, but then again it's like $35.00, for just a timer. Watch and decide for yourself if you think it's worth it.

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up
hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you'll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week from Rachel Ziese

Hi guys!

I got behind on shows because of 2020 and I'm getting caught up now. I've been particularly enjoying the handwarmer selections. I have raynaud's disease (reference https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/raynauds-disease/symptoms-causes/syc-20363571 -so my hands and feet get very cold very often. Back in January 2015 I bought Chad's gadget the Monoprice 3-in-1 LED Light Hand Warmer and battery which I still use every winter but is no longer made. I have some chemical rechargeable hand warmers which are nice because they don't require electricity and can be tucked in a boot. Last winter I got a second electronic hand warmer when it was a lightning deal. The best thing I like about it is it lasts 8-12 hours. Christmas 2019 I got the claw heated mouse pad you showed on the show as a Secret Santa gift and I love it. I use it year round because A/C will aggravate the raynaud's in warm weather. However I don't plug it in every day. Just having basically a stuffed animal cocoon can be enough to keep my mouse hand comfortable.

Keep up the great shows! I've been listening/watching since the very beginning and I have bought so many gadgets because of you guys! Rachel
