The Giz Wiz Show 1708, January 3rd 2019 Independent Show #191

Soon The Giz Wiz Show will finished it's 12th year of production, and the fourth year of Independent Production! (The very first show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!)

And now on with our Picks For Worst Gadgets & Gizmos of 2018!

We start with a new camera that really isn't 'the worst of', but it certainly fits “MOST BIZARRE” new gadget. At CES 2018 Kodak said that their Super8 Film Camera, yes FILM camera with a MSRP of $3,000 would be on shelves by spring/early summer. A year later and it seems all you can do at the Kodak website is sign up for updates about buying one. (As of 1/04/19) And I should mention a cassette of super 8mm film with processing & digital disc is about $100, and that is for under 3 minutes of film/video.

Here's the story from CES 2018: https://tinyurl.com/Kodak8mmFilmVideoCamera

And the Kodak website, where the camera is still not listed as being available to buy, as of 1/04/180

Black & Decker WiFi Slower Cooker.

Chad found the cooker was okay, but the app was totally under-cooked and needed a lot more work before it could be called 'well done'. The show on Chad's Crappy Corner and his full review is here:

What do eggs, pebbles and an 18-drawer organizer have in common? We hated them all!

EZ EggCracker - OMG, did we have fun trying to get this piece of “As Seen On TV” plastic to work!

We actually did it twice, and then we threw the gadget out.

Here's the first few tries: https://tinyurl.com/EZCracker-try-one

Then after a bunch of emails saying we didn't do it right, here's try two:

One of Chad's most disappointing gadgets

Glow in Dark Pebbles, AKA Glow in the Dark Moonstones.

This did not get a 'glowing' review from Chad as you'll see in his video in this episode:

_______________

The Stack-On 18 Drawer Disappointment.

I expected this drawer organizer to solve a lot of problems, especially since it came from a company famous for their drawer organizers. I was wrong. Terribly wrong. It's the Stack-on 18-drawer organizer. It was a deal of the day for $14.99, but it turned out to be a total waste of money. Here's the whole story:

More losers.

Were you 'all ears' when you first heard about Smart Swab?

This “As Seen on TV” gadget was everywhere. Not only on TV, but in many major drug store chains, even many department stores. So we had to buy a couple to see if

Smart Swab” really worked for us. It didn't! And when you see the Amazon reviews, you'll see we weren't alone in not liking it.

Water Clock & Weather Station

I like this a lot, until about 5 months into owning it, it just stopped working. I tried all the trouble shooting tips like cleaning and rinsing the clock's insides, but it never came back to life. The whole story, with a video, before it went bad is here:

Feel cooler, but just make sure you're sitting directly in front of the Arctic Air!

Arctic Air Unlike the water clock, I found this a very disappointing gadget. Fortunately I only paid about $20 for it, while some people spend $90 since it was sometimes advertised as and “Air Conditioner”. If you sat right in front of it you did feel a bit cooler, but it also raised the humidity a lot, not a good thing is summer heat. But then I found a use for it. Adding humidity to a room in winter, but using it to cool the air.

Here's the original story: https://tinyurl.com/NotSoHotArcticAir

And it's still all over the Internet at prices from like $30 to $90!

The Final Five Failures - in our eyes.

The Grill Wrangler. When Chad showed this 3-in-1 grilling gadget it looked very impressive. But as Chad found out, In use, not so much! The whole story is here: https://tinyurl.com/QuirkyGrillWrangler

Dealing with hard butter on toast. The Yagerspitz Butter Knife is supposed to solve that, but I couldn't get it work. And although I agree it would make a nice gift and it does come in deluxe packaging and an impressive black box, there are ZERO instructions on how to use the butterknife. Here's the whole story with video: https://tinyurl.com/NoSoBetterButterKnife

Add glitter to your cocktails and drinks?

That's what you're supposed to be able to do with the Spirdust Cocktail Colors from The Cocktail Countess, but I got rather dull results. Here's the whole 'not-so-glowing' story: https://tinyurl.com/MakeYourDrinksGlow

Spin A Song Haunted Toilet Paper Roll.

The only thing that may haunt you is that you wasted your money buying this Halloween gadget. Here's Chad's whole totally-not-scary story.

(No longer on Amazon as of 1/4/19)

Flippin Fantastic. OMG, this turned out to be Flippin' Awful. Chad wasn't alone in hating this gadget. The reviews on Amazon also are scathing. Here's Chad's whole story. https://tinyurl.com/Flippin-Awful

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

In keeping with this show's theme, Paul sends us an email with the subject line:

I bought a piece of crap!

Paul Griesbaum

And Paul asks us to guess 'what the heck is it?' as he shows the piece of crap he bought. You can guess too as you watch the video.

This looks like what Paul bought on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2R8RQZq

********************************

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Hi Dick, Please be careful with the smoke machine on today's show. When the show finished Youtube offered up this video from Big Clive https://youtu.be/8ZGGgb3iFpg

These machines are not safe to be left on unattended as they can overheat. Do not leave the remote on top. Do not plug anything else into the XLR plug for the remote. He goes into a lot of details about all the things wrong with the machine but if you scroll to about 14 minutes you will get to the details of the failure.

Be safe. Cheers Ian Hayes
