Giz Wiz Show 1710 January 18, 2019 Independent Show #192 CES 2019-Part 1!

Next month The Giz Wiz Show finish starts it's 13th year of production, and the fifth year of Independent Production! (The very first Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv.  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!)

The rest of January & maybe even the first week of February is “2019 Consumer Electronics Show Gadgets!” Chad & I were out there in Vegas with our producer Josh, shooting lots of the videos for the show. We start with one of the real attention-getters at the show.

It's the Royale Flexpai foldable smartphone/tablet.

Billed as the world’s first commercial foldable smartphone, it's a combination of mobile phone and tablet. This is Royole’s 2nd generation, ultrathin, fully flexible display that can get used either folded or unfolded. Now you have the portability of a smartphone plus the 7.8” screen size of a high-definition tablet. The flexible display has a 4:3 aspect ratio and 1920 x 1440 resolution. When folded, you have three screens; front, back and edge available. The edge screen displays notifications for incoming calls, emails, and messages. The device also includes two high-res cameras with 20 and 16 megapixels that can be bent to capture objects at unique angles. When folded, incoming calls or photos can be conveniently taken from either side. A consumer version should be available later in the year. (It's already on sale in China.) If you're in a hurry to be first you can preorder the developer model. The 128GB model is $1,318.00 and the 256 GB model is $1469.00. The company says it ships in 60-90 days.Company website: https://www.royole.com/flexpai

Chad Finds The Obsbot Tail Camera & Then The Camera Finds Chad.

Here's a camera that can act as your own camera person!

First, info from the company: The OBSBOT Tail is said to be the world’s first Auto-Director AI video camera. It’s designed to give video creators a range of exciting new abilities, through premium hardware, a powerful app and a set of advanced and patented algorithms. Now, you can track, record and capture movement in up to 4K/60fps videos, in even more complex environment. With OBSBOT Tail, you can be your own actor, director and cameraman all at the same time! ---

From The Giz Wiz: You'll be able to see how the camera was able to follow Chad even though other people were walking all around him at the Pepcom event. Right now it's on Kickstarter for about $500 as of 1/16/19.

A massge chair that massages you ALL over!

Chad and I try the Human Touch Super Nova Massage Chair

This was one heck of a massage chair! You just don't sit in it, you actually get totally into it! And, according to the company, it's the first massage chair to have Alexa built in! Here's some info from the company: Featuring a striking design and best-in-class performance, the Human Touch® Super Nova massage chair provides a therapeutic massage that can be custom-tailored to fit your lifestyle so that you can be and feel your best. The unibody design delivers three-dimensional massage along the entire length of the spine and all the way down to the thighs. Enjoy the enveloping melody of your favorite music through the Altec Lansing Premium Sound System, or play one of eight calming built-in nature tracks.

From the Giz Wiz: You'll see our reactions to this luxury massage chair in this week's show. The spokesperson says it $10,000 in the video but check their website because they offer an incredible assortment of massage chairs, some at much lower prices. The Super Novo chair doesn't seem to be on the company website yet, but I do see the Novo massage chair here:

Epson FastFoto FF-680W Wireless Photo and Document Duplex Device.

Have boxes of old photos in closets, all unorganized. Here's an easy one to digitize and organize them. I was very impressed when I saw how fast this Epson FastFoto unit worked. Epson says this is the World’s Fastest Personal Photo Scanner. It scans photos as fast as 1 photo per second at 300 dpi. (You'll see that in the video on this week's show.) It makes an exact copy, and a color adjusted copy too. They add that their SafeTouch Technology offers worry-free scanning for virtually any size photo, including postcards and Polaroid photos. You can even scan panoramic photos! This second-generation Epson FastFoto adds wireless uploading and also acts as a document scanner. Additional features include Easy Auto-Upload to cloud services and Single-Step Technology for 2-sided scanning. And if it sees info written on the back of a photo, it also scans that too!

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

From Dick's Gadget Warehouse - A gadget from CES 20 years ago! Yes, 1999 CES.

It's the 20th Anniversary of the Clik Disc this month! It was introduced at CES 1999 and it got a lot of attention at the show because it was quite a feat to be able to buy 40 MB of memory for under $10! Yes, MB, not GB. A Clik disc used a small, thin flexible 40 MB disk in a metal casing and could hold an amazing 40 minutes of music! But, it's fame was not long lasting. Because shortly after the Clik disc was introduced, solid-state flash memory cards started appearing with no moving parts. Here's their (NOT) oh-so-techie-promo from 2009

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MNxvd_2jkE

A year later Iomega launched a digital music player called the HipZip because they changed the name to of the Clik to Zip or PocketZip in order to capitalize on their much better selling Zip discs and Zip drives. The HipZip player had a MSRP of $299.99 and was one of the few devices to use a PocketZip that actually made it to the marketplace.

********************************

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Hi Dick: I get a lot of value from the show. For the last two years I went through gizwiz.biz to remember all the gadgets you showed off and bought the best ones as Christmas gifts. This year I didn't find anything. In any case, my Dad never stops talking about his toilet light! My immediate family has had a lot of fun with Pie Face and the shaking wet dog toy.

In addition, you guys save me a lot of money for gadgets I might have the urge to buy but don't work. I get to see all of the crappy gadgets on your show which alleviates my urge to buy crappy gadgets! Thanks to you and Chad for saving me a lot of money!

Thanks, Jeff Sewell
