OMG! Giz Wiz Show #1500! Three New Gadgets from CES 2015.

Yes episode 1500. It was great that Leo stopped by to say and congrats, especially since he did it on his day off! There was even a celebration cake with candles that almost set the demo desk on fire. You'll see it all in the video of this week's show! And now on to CES 2015.

From Lenovo, the Tablet 3 with Windows and Anypen technology.

Lenovo call their new Tablet 3, a tablet that adapts to you. Using a touch screen on an 8” tablet can be challenging because menus are very small and fingers are often very big. A stylus would be a big help, but who want to carry one. No problem! With the Lenovo AnyPen technology, you can use a pencil, a knife point, nail file, etc. right on the touch screen. I tried a fork and it worked fine. Use almost any sort of graphite or metal! The Tablet 3 ships with Intel Atom quad-core processor, Windows 8.1 with Bing, 8” Full HD IPS display, front-facing, large-chambered speakers with Dolby enhancement and battery life – up to 15 hours! All for under $300! Coming later this month – (January, 2015)

Lenovo also unveiled the LaVie Z HZ550 and HZ750 laptops. Everyone who picked one of these notebooks up was amazed at how light they were. “Lighter than Air” is the way Lenovo defines it, referring I’m sure to the Apple Air. As you'll see in the video, I thought it was an empty portfolio when I was handed one. Lenovo says their LaVie HZ550 is the world’s lightest 13-inch laptop, weighing in a 1.72 pounds, which is about the weight of two cans of soda. The HZ750 is the lightest 13-inch convertible weighing in at 2 pounds. Both models feature 128GB solid state drives. Lenovo expects the devices to launch in May in the United States for about $1300 (HZ550) and $1500 (HX750).

Chad's Crappy Corner.

Chad's theme for January is multi-purpose gadgets. And his first gadget is this LED Lght, Hand Warmer, Battery Backup from Monoprice. Here’s how Monoprice describes it:

 3-in-1 LED Light, Hand Warmer and Battery Backup for iPhone, iPod, and other USB Mobile Devices. The Monoprice 3-in-1 LED Light Hand Warmer and Battery Backup is the all-in-one essential accessory for the person on the go in the colder climes. Use the LED Light to illuminate your car or front door lock when you get home late at night. Use the battery backup/charger to recharge your cell phone or other devices when other power sources are unavailable. Use the hand warmer to keep your hands and fingers functioning properly in spite of cold weather. The internal battery has a capacity of 2500mAh. The LED flashlight can be used for up to 30 hours with a full charge. The hand warmer operates at two temperatures. The first is about 104-113°F and the other at 122-131°F.  $17.99.

And Chad’s take?  Chad likes this device a lot. He showed us how it heated and got really warm, almost hot at over 120 degrees. The battery last about two hours in the high heat position. The flashlight is bright and has a flashing function if you want to attract attention. Chad also told us that producer Jeff Needles LOVES this device and doesn't plan on parting with it. For under $18 Chad said this is "a buy!"

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How To Submit Your Video.

A submission to Dick’s Gadget Warehouse often arrives with an email like this:

A friend of mine joined my company, so those of us with "gadget warehouses" of our own pitched in to make sure his new office was well equipped:

 * An external 56K "Zoom" modem.

 * A Motorola "Flip" phone

 * Stereo PC speakers with "Bass Enhancement"

 * A 15" color CRT with anti-glare screen.

 * A Dell "Precision" (or "Optiplex"?) workstation running (Yes, running Windows 3.1)

 ** The Dell had a whopping 4GB SCSI hard drive, dual "Pentium II" CPUs at 300MHz, and a total of 4MB RAM.

 ** Also included were a PS/2 Dell keyboard and mouse (still with it's ball).

 * A "programmable" desk phone

 * A Panasonic 24-pin dot-matrix printer

 * An IBM "Model M" keyboard

 * A plethora of "useful" books to help him with technology

Thanks! Dan Linder, Bellevue Nebraska (just south of Omaha)

Dan gets an autographed copy of  MAD Magazine and a 35 year old Alfred E. Neuman picture, plus a piece of crap from the TWiT Brickhouse. Don’t you think you should make a video for us too? Details below.

                                     +++++++++++

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so let’s go going!

Here’s what we’re looking for: Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

Post them on YouTube and send our producer, Jeff Needles, the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you will now be awarded with some sort of prize. Like an autographed MAD magazine and some piece of crap. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video!

All show submissions go to gizwiz@twit.tv
