Giz Wiz Show #1766 Show of February 13, 2020 Independent Show #248

Wow! The Giz Wiz Show celebrates our 14th anniversary this month! And it's our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/

On this week's show we have three gadgets from NY NOW, a show that needs a better name because most people have no idea what kind of show it is. It's most like a home decorating show, but fortunately they usually have some offbeat tech things or even weird stuff that we like. For instance, that turntable in the photo, that's a cat scratching post with a turntable the cat turns as it scratches!   ---- (When we recorded this show Chad suggest "Decor Galore" as a good name for the show!

Here's some background on one of the two fun gadget companies we found at the show, Suck UK. (Yep, that's the official name of the company!)

Design duo Sam and Jude established Suck UK in 1999. Back then, the design graduates hand-crafted furniture and industrially-inspired products. Why call a company SUCK UK? --- They answer: Seems it’s become a company urban myth. You'll never get a straight answer about where the name came from, from anyone; which is in a way part of the fun, isn’t it? Although we’re well aware a different name would have saved years of hasty phone explanations! ---- But at the end of the day - Suck UK stands out from the crowd, delivering memorable products, innovation, and wit! Which is what we want to be known for! We make products that we would want to buy ourselves, gifts that we would give. We like to put a surprising spin on everyday functions, making life that little bit different and that little bit more exciting. We design it all! --- And in this week's show you'll meet a designer for Suck UK.

It's only ten months till Christmas. Get ready with Magic Ornaments.

At NY Now I met the folks at Magic Ornaments. Here's a bit of what they say about their exciting new product with a few comments by me: Magic Ornaments are the solution to the problem of bulky, fragile Christmas ornaments. ALL 40 ornaments, plus the ribbon, fit into ONE ENVELOPE! Magic Ornaments collapse down flat in seconds. Made from durable plastics and cardstock, they will last for many years. Everyone, especially people living in apartments and businesses will be able to enjoy having a Christmas tree without needing any storage. (Well, outside of that single envelope they come in.) A comparable, non-collapsing ornament set would require a bulky two cubic feet container! And this is neat! Because many sheets of the Magic Ornaments have a different color on each side, you can 'change' their color simply by turning them inside out. The Magic Ornaments set contains 40 stunning ornaments and 40 feet of beautiful wired ribbon, able to generously adorn most Christmas trees. There are two popular color themes to choose from: Red, Gold & Silver or White, Silver & Blue. Either set is $59.95. I do not see the smaller, less expensive set described in the video we shot on the company website yet.

Lose it? Let 'Find It' make sure you don't lose it again.

Another fun company! We love Kikkerland and it's clever and humorous products. Kikkerland founder Jan van der Lande sums up his company's philosphy this way: "Life is already so serious, why can't we have a little fun?" -- Well not only do they have lots of fun products, many of which we've covered on Giz Wiz shows of the past, but the company does many other important things. Customers can send it ideas and if Kikkerland feels it's something that fits into their line, they'll get it produced and the inventor gets a payback. They also have a design challenge where a student's winning product can be produced and earn rewards for the student inventor. Check out their blogs for many of great things going on at Kikkerland.

At NYNow I found the "Find It" wire sculpture which is a clever place to put something you always misplace. The design will make sure you put it in the exact spot indicated by the giant arrow. That should ensure you'll always know what it is. And it uses no batteries, LED's or AC! Laura Kellner, Marketing Supervisor of Kikkerland explains more about "find it" in our video. It's clever, bright red, and has a MSRP of only $9. It's available this month, February, 2020.

Chad's Crappy Corner & his second gadget for his new February Them.

Our loyal Patreons have voted! And Chad's new February “Cheap Gadget Theme” is...... “Cheap Gadgets From The Bargain or Clearance Bin!"

This week Chad's 2nd gadget is the Spy Gear night vision camera.

Here's some info from Target where Chad found his: The Spy Gear night vision camera clips to your smart phone. It turns your phone into a top secret spy camera. Clip to your smart device or record remotely up to 20 feet away. Download free iNite app, then clip device to your smart phone, record day or night! Infrared lights allow recording at night for photos or video with digital zoom. Built-in WiFi, built-in microphone - Requires 4 AAA batteries. Made for spies 6 years and up

And Chad's take? Let's put it bluntly. Crappiest of the crappy gadgets! It just doesn't work. Check out Chad full report in this week's show. He also points out that many people report the exact same thing. Once you download the app and try to use it, the app stops working! MSRP: $49.99. Chad bought his for half that, $25.00 at Target. But then on the show he did a web search and found it for $22.89 on Target, cheaper than the sale price in the store. Chad's going to return his for a refund.

From the Giz Wiz: I found it on ebay for about $13.50 including shipping and the listing said “new” and “more than 10 in stock”. https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Spy-Gear-iNite-Clip-on-Secret-Agent-Night-Vision-Camera-Detective-Gadget-/283780707200   (Not an affiliates link.)

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hting? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week:

Hey guys

On episode 1735 "Steve" showed an antique stumper - it is called a Gout Board. Back in the 70's, my brother and I made and sold various wood products, and Gout Boards was a product that we featured.

Thanks for all that you do.

Ward Bissey Washington, NC

At the bottom of this page is what one of those 'Gout Boards' or 'Gout Steps' looks like.
