Giz Wiz Show 1757 Show of Dec 12th, 2019 Independent Show #239

Wow! The Giz Wiz Showis in year 13 overall & our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz. You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

And now on with the show!

I tried not to buy anything during the crazy Black Friday sales events, but when I saw something I thought might be good for the boat, I bought one. It was - get ready for the long Amazon name --- the DBPOWER Portable DVD Player with 10.5'' Swivel Screen, Supports SD Card/USB/CD/DVD with AV in/Out and Earphone Port, 5-Hour Built-in Rechargeable Battery, Suitable for Car Headrest Mount. From the days of high travel I have a lot of movies on USB flashdrives and SD cards, so this device seemed like a good 'entertainment center' for the boat. Besides it run on AC or 12 volts with the included cigarette lighter plug. And I still have a bunch of DVD movies. The unit is good looking and screen does swivel and fold back flat. And even though the company says they listened to complaints about bad sound, I found the volume on this 'improved' model still not loud enough. But my biggest compliant was trying to play video from a USB drive and SD card. I only got sound, not video. Seems a lot of people had that compliant and I'm sorry I didn't read all the reviews before I bought this unit. What I thought was a plus for this device was that it has AV in & AV out! That meant I could also just use it as a monitor. But since I couldn't play my SD & USB flashdrive movies on it, I sent it back and got a refund.

Chad's Gadget Extra!

Every once in a while on The Giz Wiz Show Chad jumps into with an extra gadget. He likes when that happens because it doesn't have to be a 'crappy gadget'. And what he has on this week's show is far from 'crappy'. It's the very professional (and not inexpensive) Sennheister XS Wireless Digital Lavalier Set. Here's a bit of info from Sennheister. One-touch ease-of-use wireless audio set with ME2-II clip-on lavalier mic, XSW-D 3.5mm (1/8") transmitter, XSW-D XLR male receiver, belt clip and USB-A to USB-C charging cable. Key Features: One touch ease-of-use / 2.4 GHz digital transmission for worldwide operation / 75m range (250ft) in optimal conditions / Up to 5 hours battery life on a single charge / Switch between multiple transmitters linked to one receiver Configure any combination of transmitters and receivers / Mute from either transmitter or receiver. $349.95 plus applicable sales tax – free shipping.

And Chad's take: Chad likes these because they're small units, convenient to use and if the battery is running down you can power them directly from an external battery charger. I have an idea he might be bringing these to CES2020 where we going to record a lot of gadget spots for the Giz Wiz Show. You'll see Chad's complete report in this week's show.

Digitize those old cassette tapes for under $18.00!

Back in the days of disco I used to mix my own cassette tapes. Now I wanted to digitize them for my computer, tablet, phones, etc. So 40 years after I bought the first Sony Walkman cassette player for $180, I bought the Cassette Player,Cassette Tape to MP3 Converter, Via USB Portable Cassette Tape Converter.  Amazon adds: Captures MP3 Audio Music, with Headphones,Convert Walkman Tape Cassette Compatible with Mac / PC / Laptop. Here's some of features via Amazon: Convert cassette tapes to MP3 Format. USB cassette capture is a portable, hand-held USB tape player that works with all kinds of tapes. It has an easy-to-use USB connection for converting the music on your tapes into MP3 files or laptop CD. It runs on battery or when connected to USB power or connected to your computer, this cassette will not need a battery. Comes with software CD to guide you to convert your cassette tapes , Compatible with Windows XP, Vista 32bit /64bit/Windows 7/ 8/ 10. ---- From the Giz Wiz: It doesn't have a built-in speaker, but it does come with a set of cheap earbuds. The build quality is okay and the machine does have autoreverse, something I didn't expect for a machine that sells for anywhere from about $18 to $25.

Chad's Crappy Corner & Another Gadget For His New December Theme.

Chad polled our loyal Patreon fans and for December's Cheap Gadget Theme they picked: “Cheap Gadgets to keep you warm”.

Chad's second cheap gadget is The Heated Smart Travel Mug with Temperature Control - 16 ounce- 12V - Stainless Steel. Here's What Amazon says about it: PLEASE NOTE: the mug is intended to keep your beverage warm at your desired temperature and to heat up lukewarm drinks but not to boil cold drinks. Temperature control Heats liquids to selected temperatures from 85 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Alerts user when ideal preset temperature is reached. Monitors temperature of liquid, displaying status on the LED indicator. 12V Auto adapter included / For Auto use only. Chad paid about $30.00 for his.

And Chad's take: Chad thought the device worked okay, but looked strange. What was really weird was the RCA jack-type plug sticking out the side that you use to connect the 12 Volt cord. And Chad also thought the capacity was small. You'll see his full report in this week's show.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video On Any Gadget!

Our viewer video this week is from our most frequent Giz Wiz contributor, Mo Torres.

But it's a different kind of viewer video. Because Mo is now letting us know a gadget he loved in the past, and that we showed his video on – has real quality control issues! Here's Mo's video.

WARNING: Mo says this is now a "Do Not Buy".Hey guys

I am so sorry, this is my first "DO NOT BUY", video, and i regret to say, its a device i did a video on, & that you showed on your show.

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hting? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letter of the week!

Steve Nelms In Walmart's toy department are toys for little children Fisher-Price and they're linked together so when you push a button it does something, and triggers the other ones to do something.

From the Giz Wiz: Steve sent us a short video via Dropbox so we weren't able to post that link here. But I did find they are called Fisher Price LINKIMALS Infant Development Toys.

But it was the other link that Steve sent that Chad &I found amazing! We're going to try to track it down at CES 2020. Here' that part of the email:

PS. Saw this on MacBreak Weekly podcast. www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemmini

Thank you Steve Nelms!
