Giz Wiz Show #1739 Recorded August 8, 2019 Independent Show #221

Wow! The Giz Wiz Show is in year 13 overall & our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including  travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/.  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

This week we start off with three fun gadgets from Suite Sweet, the mid-summer toy extravaganza that place at Chelsea Piers in NYC.

Nickelodeon's Spongebob adds more fun stuff to their silly line! Nickelodeon says that their SpongeBob is silly and wacky and now kids can be too with the Spongebob-styled Giggle Blaster. It features a real-working periscope, and fun-themed blaster sprays aerosol party string (included). But wait, there's more. It shouts more than 15 SpongeBob phrases and sounds. Although I couldn't make them out in the crowded exhibit hall I get to use one of these to cover the camera in party string. Be sure to watch this week's show to see it. The Giggle Blaster will be out this fall. Ages 6+, MSRP: $19.99

Another novel idea from Crayola - The Sprinkle Art Shaker.

Crayola says: “Everything's Better With Sprinkles On Top.” And they add: Less Mess Crafts for Girls & Boys. The Crayola Sprinkle Art Shaker is a creative craft with a clever, less messy way to create vibrant, textured art that's fun to make and  display. First, select one of the 12 included coloring pages to decorate. Then trace your line art with one of the 6 glue tubes in your kit, and place the line art inside your shaker. Finally, add your choice of 5 sprinkle colors to the shaker, close the case, and shake your sprinkles into place. The end result is adorable 3D art! (Adorable I guess if you're the kid you created it, or the parent of that artist kid.) This gadget has started shipping and is on Amazon. $19.99 .

Gross as it sounds, there's now a (F)art Launcher

Designed for kids 6+, it's the Buttheads Fart Launcher 3000 from WowWee. (I know who ever thought that smelly F word would become so big in toys!) This giant handheld device is very colorful, but it does give off a dreaded bad odor when the trigger is pulled. Fortunately it wasn't horrendous for me because we were in a big open exhibition space, but I image in a room you would head for the nearest open window. I felt a little better about it when I saw on one of the signs at WowWee that the terrible smell is made with 100% plant-based material that dissipates in minutes. The scent canister includes 100+ rounds of farty blasts. Refill canisters available separately. At Toy Fair early this year I thought I had heard the F Launcher was also going to include a 'bubblegum' scent canister, but it wasn't mentioned at this event. sp I don't know if that's true. It's not on the WowWee website as of 8/9/19. Ages: 6+ MSRP: $19.99

Available: Amazon, Target, Walmart in Fall 2019

Chad's Crappy Corner & His Second Gadget For His New August Theme!

Chad's new August theme, as picked by our loyal Patreons, is Cheap “Sketchy” gadgets. Not like stuff for artists, but stuff that might used by spies, less than honest folks, undercover agents, or in today's case, 'a snoop in the house'!

It's the KeyGrabber USB KeyLogger. Here's what Amazon says about it: The KeyGrabber USB keylogger has 16 Megabytes of built-in memory, accessible as a Flash drive. This hardware keylogger is compatible with USB keyboards, including wireless, and those with built-in USB hubs. Ultra-stealthy, no software or drivers required. Records ALL keystrokes (selectable from three levels of recording). Supports national keyboard layouts. We are the direct manufacturer of KeyGrabbers, meaning you can directly talk to our qualified team in case of problems or questions.

And Chad's take: Watch this week's video to see how this works. You may think that 16 megabytes of memory is tiny, but Chad points out that the KeyLogger only records keystrokes, no pictures, video, etc. In his mini-demo Chad shows that it keeps track of everything you do on the keyboard like space, backspace, tab, - every key stroke! He was surprised it didn't get better reviews. MSRP: $29.99

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video On Any Kind Of Gadget!

We're giving Adam a MAD Magazine & an Alfred E. Neuman picture for his 'warehouse video' efforts. Here's his email which shows he had a great plan for producing a video for our show. Read why it didn't work out.

Hey Dick and Chad.

I recently purchased this product because I had seen it in action before at someone else's house and it worked really well and I thought to myself, I should get one of those. I was all ready to send you a video demo once I purchased my own but unfortunately it does not actually work for me. Once you see the product and look at the commercial that I have linked below, you will see why. Basically it is a very nifty gadget but 100% of the "gadgety" aspect of this product relies on the interior roof of your microwave being magnetic. I have recently discovered that mine is not, so I will be returning it, but thought I would recommend it for you or anyone else who can check ahead of time that your microwave is magnetic. In hindsight I should have checked this before buying (doh!). Maybe just buy it from Amazon so that if for some reason it doesn't work, the return is easy.

Here's the (short) "As seen on TV" ad showing how it's supposed to work: https://youtu.be/roeE0B6ZBVk

And here it is on Amazon. https://amzn.to/2GT6WuX  - As an Amazon Associate Giz Wiz Biz earns from qualifying Amazon purchases.

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show,
so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Letters of the week.

We received two emails about the magnetic dart collector on last week's show.
Here's the 1st one, edited for space.

Hi Dick and Chad,

The viewer letter for Episode 1738 described an Indiegogo project for Magnetic Dart Pickups.
I tried searching for the project on Indiegogo and I couldn't find it! I did find the link on the show notes on gizwiz.biz. But when I clicked on it I got the not found page: "Where did it go? The page you are looking for is no longer available or has been removed." Is this some kind of conspiracy on the part of politicians who don't want to see quick reload nerf guns?
Love the show!  Paul Koerber (paulcg in the chat room)

Paul, you're right, we could not find anything about the Magnetic Dark Pickups today either. We have a possible explanation on this week's show.

2nd email is from Andrew Forte who writes: Hi Dick and Chad,

Ben Heck modified a Roomba to collect Nerf darts in 2015. The 3 part video can be found on YouTube.

The Giz Wiz found the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Tf_WwWZ0rE  Start at about 12:00 minutes in if you just want to watch the part about collecting darts with a modified Roomba.

Note: Most Giz Wiz Amazon links on this website are 'affiliate' links. If you buy something through one of those links you pay exactly the same as everyone else, but GizWizBiz gets a small credit to purchase more gadgets to demo on shows. Thank you.
