Giz Wiz Show 1741 August 22, 2019 Independent Show #223

Wow! The Giz Wiz Show is in year 13 overall & our 5th year of Independent Production! (First Giz Wiz show was February 20th, 2006.) Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters we continue on! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including  travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/.  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. Thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. Thanks from OMGchad & DickDe!

This week we start off with three more fun gadgets from yet another summer 'holdiday gift preview'. This one held at the very trendy Harvard Club in NYC.

Having a party. Here's an easy way to make everyone's drink even if they all ask for different ones. It's called DrinkWorks.

The Drinkworks drinkmaker prepares cocktails, beer, and more at home using proprietary Drinkworks Pods. The device was developed by Keurig and Anheuser-Busch. Each drink is made consistently every time using a Pod-specified mix of chilled water and carbonation. A variety of Drinkworks Pod Collections include classic and specialty cocktail offerings, leading beer brands like Beck's, Bass, and Stella Artois, and signature mixers. While it's making your drink the app tells you how long to completion, the temperature it will be, etc. Each Pod contains the specific spirit required, whether that’s actual bourbon from Kentucky for a classic Old Fashioned or Mexican agave tequila for a refreshing Margarita. Everything needed for the drink is precisely measured and poured in the Pod. The machine is $399.99, and most alcoholic drink pods are $15.99, which is $4 a drink. Sales are limited to Florida and Missouri right now, but the company says it will be available in California, around April 2020.

Switchheels, a very versatile pair of shows.

I love it when I can find gadgets at a trade show that offer something different! No Bluetooth, No Speakers. Not a phone case. I felt that way when I saw Switchheels, a way for a woman to adjust the height of the heels on her shoes. That could mean just carrying (and buying) just one pair of shows and adjusting them to meet a changing schedule during the day and evening. There's not a lot of info on their website yet, but I did find this online. From their Twitter page: We are a group of Babson students who are starting a business that sells converible high heels that start at 1.5 inches and go to 4 inches with 5 heel lengths. And from their Facebook page: Switchheels are high heel shoes that can easily transform to flat or midheel shoes. Women can wear high heels for so long! Heels to flats, just like that. You can't buy them yet,but you can preorder them in quite a few different styles for $95.00 on the company website. (Price as of 8/24/19)

The EVO Folding Electric Bike.

Even though I saw this device at the gift show & made a video about it, I don't know if or when it's going to make it to the marketplace. The website they have listed on their single page give-away info sheet, www.evobike.com comes up “make an offer for the URL”. Also they say it's the “World's First Fully Foldable E-Bike”. Well, we've been showing fully foldable e-bikes on the Giz Wiz Show for years. Travel over  20 miles on one charge certainly could be because the other side of the flyer says: “25 mile battery life”. The top speed of 24 to 25 miles per hour is possible, but NYC limits e bikes to 18 mph. That of course is adjustable. I also emailed the company using the business card they left me, but no one responded. I also should say the email didn't bounce back, so I have no idea what's going on this product. (Evo is listed as part of Skyline Brands, but that search went to "free parking by Go Daddy".) When you watch the video I think you'll agree it's doesn't seem too smooth an operation to fold the device, but perhaps it was new even to Chad, the spokesperson. Spokesperson Chad (not OMG) said to look for great sales on Kickstarter in a month, but as of 8/22/19 there were none. We recorded that video July 25, and he said sales would start in a month, so maybe it's yet to happen.

Chad's Crappy Corner & Another Gadget For His August Theme!

Chad's August theme, as picked by our loyal Patreons, is “Sketchy” gadgets. No, not like stuff for artists, but stuff that might used by spies, less than honest folks, undercover agents, or in today's case, 'a snoop in the house'! This week's Sketchy gadget is the Lace Escape Tool - to help you escape from handcuffs!

Here's part of the description from Brian Bushwood's Scam School website where Chad bought his:
If only there was a simple, cheap way to open handcuffs that was reliable, always on my body, and covert enough to evade detection..."But there is."  A strange voice booms. Wait, what?  Is... is that Brian Brushwood's voice? "Yep.  It's totes me, bro.  And I heard your pleas.  That's why we now carry the Lace Escape tool.  It's a simple device that clamps to the end of your boot or shoe lace.  Once it's covered with the rubber aglet, Nobody will suspect that you're wearing an actual handcuff key on your body at all times.  Pretty sweet, right?" "Oh, and the best part is that it's less than $20 bucks.

And Chad's take? When you watch this week's video you'll see Chad use the key that came with the handcuffs he purchased for this spot. (What production value this week on The Giz Wiz Show!) Then you'll see him open the handcuffs with his cleverly 'hidden on the end of shoelace key'! They work! Not as convenient as the full size key supplied with the handcuff, but they do work!

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video On Any Kind Of Gadget!

This week's viewer video is another great gadget suggestion from Mo Torres. He points out that it could be especially useful for me living in NYC, because soon we'll have to pay for shopping bags at the supermarket. This is a convenient way to carry your own, and the way it loads and unloads is really easily!

Here's Mo's quickie email:

********************************
We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I can email an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
