The Giz Wiz Show 1669, April 6th 2018 Independent Show #152

The Giz Wiz Show just started it's13th year! The first show was February 20th, 2006. And soon (May 2018) we'll be entering our 4th year of Independent Production! That's thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters! If it wasn't for them, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you'd like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves, including travel) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/ You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you for doing that! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support, but a bit more support would be a big help. (As we can say honestly, asking for more Patreon supporters is not to make more money, it helps us lose less money doing The Giz Wiz. Thanks!)

The 2018 International Auto Show Is At The Javits Center From March 25th to April 8th

Never having owned a car in my life, I looked for the more unusual vehicles at the 2018 NY Auto Show. I think this was the most unusual, the 2018 Polaris Slingshot Grand Touring LE. It's got to be fast weighing something like 1750 pounds, but having a 170 hp engine! The salesperson only nodded “yes” to my “over 100 mph?" question. Even though it's a 3-wheel vehicle, he said the Slingshot meets all legal requirements and is equipped for use on all public roads. It's pricier than I would have thought at about $30,000. Here's more info from the manufacturer: Stay cooler and even more comfortable with the color matched Slingshade and gullwing doors, quilted comfort seats, & a 9.5” clear wind-deflector. Make a statement with premium matte metallic paint, full body graphics, a color-matched rear fender, & painted interior accents. Stay focused on the ride with turn-by-turn navigation on a 7” multi-touch display in addition to phone connectivity, Rockford Fosgate Stereo, & back-up camera. --- You'll certainly get attention on the road. Watch this week's show to see the Slingshot in action.

Soarigami - designed to end the fight over the armrest when you fly!

Coach seats on an airplane are uncomfortable enough, but having to fight over the small armrest between coach seats makes it even wore. There's a neat solution for that. Soarigami doubles the existing armrest space and provides a friendly barrier, so you and your seatmate can comfortably share fair. However the company strongly suggests that before using the device, you simply ask your seat-mate neighbor if they're willing to share. My guess is that when you show them the Soarigami, they'll be very interested in sharing it. The device can be adjusted to fit a wide range of armrests using the built in screws. A rubberized silicone molding on the underside creates a firm grip on existing armrests, making it fully stable. The armrest covers are removable for hand washing and the entire Soarigami folds flat to fit into any carry-on. It's $29.50 on Amazon.

Traveling and worrying that your plane or train seat may not be clean?

How clean are airplane seats? The COO of MedJet Assist says that as a rule of thumb, an aircraft is supposed to be completely wiped down after every 30 days of service or at 100 flying-hour intervals. But in theory, that means that an aircraft can be used for dozens of flights between deep cleanings. That's where Seat Sitters come in. They are disposable seat covers that are easy to pack or carry with you. Great to use on airplanes, at movie theaters, special events, or anywhere where you want to be sure you're sitting on a clean seat. The company says they're perfect for cold, flu and allergy season and make an excellent guard against contact with peanut and food allergens. The kit includes a disposable tray table cover (but there's no way to secure it to the tray on an airplane), two sanitary wipes and one allergy mask. The lightweight fabric is soft and 100% recyclable - both disposable and reusable. (There's no hint as to what the fabric is made of anywhere in the description or on the package.)  The company adds: the black fabric is non-woven, and machine washable in cold water; use air dry dryer settings. Approximate size is 24” x 55”. I checked on Seat Guru and most coach and business class seats or less than 24". And if you're lucky enough to be in first class, you probably don't want to be seen covering your seat. There's also a Kids Version, which seems to be the same kit, but it adds crayons for drawing on the tray dover. Kits are each $14.99, and there are many more options on the company website.

Chad Polls Our Loyal Patreons To Pick His New Theme For April.

Chad polled our loyal Patreon members and asked them to vote on his cheap theme for April. The selections were “fashion”, “gadgets for older folks” and “safety gadgets”. They picked Cheap Security Gadgets.

Chad's first gadget of the month is Kerberos.io, video surveillance made easy. Assuming you have the needed gizmos to put this security system together, the software is better than cheap. It's free! Not knowing anything about Kerberos.io, here is info from their website. And you get a lot more in Chad's video on this week's show. Kerberos.io is a free video surveillance solution, which works with any camera and on every Linux (PC & iOS too) based machine. You can deploy a fully configured video surveillance system within a few minutes on the environment you prefer: Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, Docker, etc. Installing Kerberos.io to your IoT device, has never been so easy. By using our cross-platform installer, you can run a fully configured video surveillance system within a few minutes. Indeed, we also think that's awesome! Access and configure your easy to use and professional video surveillance solution with your smartphone, tablet or laptop to keep an eye on your property 24/7. No advertisements or any other annoying messages, it's 100% clean!

And Chad's take: Chad loved this and he also had also the necessary components just lying around his house. He set it up to monitor his cats. As you see in the video it's full 'live' streaming, but it provides plenty of info as what's going on at the location where you install the camera. Full details in Chad's video.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:

I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.

-

I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.

-

My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.

-

My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.

-

Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you And please shoot in landscape format! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you'll also get an autographed 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live, I canemail an autographed to you Alfred E. Neuman photo if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it's a copy. We've tested it out and fans say they look terrific!

All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
