Giz Wiz #1565 April 8th, 2016 - Our 49th Independently Produced Giz Wiz

Thanks to our wonderful Patreon supporters The Giz Wiz Show continues in 2016!

If you'd like to support OMGChad & DickDe in our independent venture (we pay for everything ourselves) just click the Patreon link at the top of this page: http://www.gizwiz.tv/  You can also contribute just once via the PayPal link that's there too. And thank you! Our show wouldn't exist without our viewer's support.

The car show was still in NYC when we recorded this show, and we showed this Jeep test drive demo video. Instead of being inside the Javits Center with their cars posed on high rise platforms and deep pile carpet, year after year Jeep puts them outside and offers rides to prospective buyers in what I think is an effective demonstration.

Here's the Jeep video. Don't worry it's under 120 seconds.

This week's show has a different format. And judging from the comments and emails, people liked it. Instead of doing my normal three gadgets I opted to buy and open on camera two 'Tech Mystery Boxes'. They were $20 each and as you'll see on the show, I had no idea what my $40 bought.

One thing we all pretty much were sure of before going in was that none of the items iTech Deals used in their promo email would find their way into their Tech Accessories Mystery Boxes. That's the photo they use on the right. I bought quite a few items from iTech and have been pleased with them, so I think they do themselves a disservice with this particular photo.

The mystery box of tech is not always available, but if you sign up for their mailing list, you'll know what the next one takes place.

Mystery Box of Tech Accessories #1.

So on this episode of the Giz Wiz I show  what I got in each of my two boxes of Tech Accessories. In my excitement opening each box while Chad and the chatroom tried to find what each tech item might sell for, I did get a few of the gadgets mixed up. So the two photos you see contain everything I got for my $40, but the mystery tech accessories might not show exactly which box they really were in. But it will give you a good idea of the type of stuff you probably can expect if you order your own mystery box.

Mystery Box of Tech Accessories #2.

And here is what was in Mystery Tech Accessories Box #2. After you watch this Giz Wiz show you can judge for yourself if you think the items I received are worth $20 or $40. It seems sometimes iDeals offers a $20 box and a $40 box. I bought two $20 boxes. Since in one of the reviews I read, a customer complained that they ordered two boxes at the same time, and that each box contained exactly the same thing, none of which they could use. So I ordered two boxes from two different sales, probably about two weeks apart. Turns out I only got two duplicates. A sort of worthless (to me any way) mini 'store card' organizer and a magnetic LED light to stick on metal tools. That's not too bad. I'm keeping one and I gave one away. The only other things I might be able to use is the non-branded external battery charger, which we found out sells for about $10. And a Bluetooth Music Receiver, which is online for $7. There was also a lot of useless cable and 30-pin Apple stuff in the box, which is worthless to me. So, it's not a rip-off as some reviewers say, but I think you'll save money by buying exactly what you need instead of hoping to 'strike it rich' with one of these boxes. Box of mystery  tech accessories is not always available, but you can check here from time to time, or sign up for their email list.

Chad's Crappy Corner and a brand new theme for April.

This show started airing on April 1st, so we decided to make Chad's theme for the entire month of April, Pranks & Practical Jokes! (Warning you might not want to read about the first one.)

Just before we recorded this show Chad told me he was going to review the grossest gadget we've ever done. I wondered aloud if that was a good idea and Chad said, “normally no, but this gadget has a very interesting back story. Chad added that he wasn't even going to say the complete name of the product on the show even though Amazon uses it. I gave a look and Chad is right, not only does Amazon sell this gross product, but it has over a 2500 positive reviews! And it's the #1 Best Seller in Gags & Practical Joke Toys on Amazon

Here's what Amazon says about it: Liquid A** is an overwhelming, stinky, funny prank product. Once unleashed, this power-packed, super-concentrated liquid begins to evaporate filling the air with a genuine, foul butt-crack smell with hints of dead animal and fresh poo. The funny pranks you can pull with Liquid A** are unlimited. Watching the facial grimaces of people and hearing their comments about the part-your-hair, gagging stench will have you laughing until it hurts. Keep out of reach of children.

Dick's Gadget Warehouse & How to Submit Your Viewer Video.

On this episode of The Giz Wiz we combined Dick's Gadget Warehouse with the letter of the week. And here's why. This is the letter of the week.

Subject: Trains  Hello Dick & Chad, I love the show!!!! But Dick I always hear you talk about trains, can you make a video of your trains or post a photo of them? It would be cool to see.

Again its an awesome show, John Brooklyn, NY

Well I found some video of my backyard trains and I realized they were shot with a video cam from 7 years ago – that's like 50 years in gadget terms. So here's the video, and then info on the Coby SNAPP CAM3000 that only sold for $29.95!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ic3DtP9YfhU

And another video from the Coby SNAPP, a squirell who visit our backyard daily.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QhKUFWyubU&feature=channel

And here's info the cam from Dick's Gadget Warehouse. Back on Wednesday, October 14th, 2009, Netcast # 938, it was brand new and a break through in low-priced technology. Today Coby is bankrupt and long-gone.

The SNAPP CAM3000 from Coby Electronics is a pocket-sized digital camcorder shaped very much like the Flip. You can use it to shoot video, take pictures, and play back your files on the built-in color 1.5" LCD screen. There’s a tiny bit of built-in memory, 32MB, but you’ll most likely just be using the built-in SD card slot. It can handle SD/SDHC cards up to 8 GB. That should give you more than 2 hours of recording time. When a friend who does PR for Coby said she wanted to try their new under $40 camcorder, I thought: “Under $40, this must be junk!”. Surprise, it shoot very decent video. This is a great camcorder for the kids. You can find it for as low as $29.95 if you do a price search on the web. That way the kids can have their own camera and they’ll leave yours alone. It ships with ArcSoft video editing software and YouTube uploader. I didn’t use the software but uploaded the video to YouTube from putting the SD card from the Coby directly into my computer’s card reader.  A USB cable and hand strap are also included. It runs on 4 AAA batteries which are also included.

We’re looking for more Viewer Videos! We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show, so here's what we're looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
-
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won't get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, "family friendly" language applies.
-
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can't market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it's a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
-
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don't have a warehouse. It doesn't matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you're still hanging on to it.
-
My Favorite Gadget of All Time: Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
-
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We'll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that's unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll a tiny amount of fame (hopefully), an autographed MAD magazine and a 35-year-old Alfred E. Neuman picture. So that's one more (so-so) reason to send in your video! IMPORTANT: We'll just shower you with praise for your video if you live outside the US or Canada since we can't afford to send stuff outside of those two places. (Thanks for understanding.)
